1. I used to have an Aerodyne which I sold cos I didn't like the sharp edge on the body. I now have a Tribute L-2000 which sounds great but is appreciably heavier-but not too much so. I also have a G&L SB-2 which I can get Aerodyne-like sounds out of and so much more too, and it's lighter than the L-2000. Also, if you can, try a Bacchus Jazz-excellent basses made in Japan.
 2. we've been let down one too many times by the manager at one of our regular gigs (double booking) and I want to suggest to him that I take over the responsibility for booking the entertainment at his pub. I am happy to do the work but I don't want to be financially liable if a band doesn't show up. has anybody else been in this situation and if so how did you protect yourself?
 3. I do, thumb rests on the end of the neck sometimes but usually I play with a "floating thumb" technique.
 4. Standing In The Shadows Of Love by the 4 Tops? Sounds like it's played with a pick so probably not Mr. Jameson.
 5. I've used them several times, straightforward and hassle-free between here and the UK.
 6. Last Saturday we had 2 gigs, the first time I've had that for a while. Had to work in the morning (bugg*r!), finished at 1, back home to change and load the gear-no backline needed for the first one so easier loading, drove to Dunalley, about an hour away to discover that everything was running behind schedule. This gig is a fundraiser for the CFA and we do it for expenses as it's a worthwhile cause especially at the moment cos of the high risk of bushfires. We eventually got on stage-which is the back of a flatbed truck-about 6pm, good sound thru the PA, the band sounded good and all the punters seemed to enjoy it-this event is held in the back paddock of the Dunalley Hotel and the sun was out and the beer was flowing....We finished just after 7 and then a mad scramble to load out and get back to Hobart for our second gig at the Prince of Wales in Battery Point. Got there just after 8pm to choruses of "we thought you'd let us down" from the manager and barstaff-this on our first gig in the city centre and us keen to make a good impression.... Set up only to find a PA hum-oh sh*t-sorted by 9 and off for the first set, kept it down and low-key to find out what the crowd liked. Back on for the second set at 10, halfway through the first song one of the local booze bus tours arrived and 50 half-p*ssed punters came into the bar and jumped on the dance floor so we abandoned our setlist and went into boogie mode for the next hour-great stuff, dancefloor packed. On at 11.15 for the last set, booze bus people gone but the rest of the crowd keen to dance so more of the same till 12 and the finish. Spoke to the manager the day after and he gave us a monthly booking for the next 4 months cos he liked us-result !

 8.
Cool song. Who's version? I have planned to learn the Bob marley version at some point.
Didn't know there was a Who's version.
 9. Secret Agent by Rory Gallagher-goes down a storm.
 10.
He lives in dwygyfylchi
I went to Bangor University in the 1970s and at that time the licencing laws meant that you couldn't get a drink on Sunday in Gwynedd, so we used to drive to Dwlygyfylchi where the pubs were open, get beery, then drive back to the halls of residence with takeouts and listen to F. Zappa and other good stuff all afternoon. Call Any Vegetable made perfect sense later....
 11. "Admit It" from Rory's Tattoo album played by Gerry McAvoy.

 13.
Ahhhh.... a black one-they look nice! But I've my heart set on THE one I played in store-it 'felt' right! We'll see!
did you ever buy one? what's it like?
 14.
In what context? In most things funk/rock things I play a Dorian instead of natural minor, ie. major 6th instead of minor 6th. Obviously I can hear when the people playing with me are playing a natural minor - my major 6th clashes horribly with their minor 6th and people give me funny looks.
who's "correct"?
 15.
Well I know its not really the same naming my gigs on here as it is for most of the rest of you, Adelaide being on the other side of the globe 'n all. But I don't like feeling left out so; We did a last minute show out at the Sandy Creek Pub on friday night. I don't now if you get the TV show McLeods Daughters in the UK but this little pub is in the same place as where they film the show. Just down the road from Jacobs Creek (no, really). Anyway Adelaide has had one of the longest hot spells on record recently. We are now on our 15th straight day where the temperature is above 35C (95F). Put it this way Today (Sunday) is the city's 11th straight day of a maximum temperature in excess of 38C (100F). Anyway...... (sorry for digression...ooops I did it again), Left work and drove out to Sandy Creek and started playing at 9pm and the temp was still 34C (93F). The gig is at a purpose built outdoor beer garden complete with permanent stage and is a fantastic little spot. As we were playing our second set, sweating our guts out under the added heat from the lights a weird thing happened. The temp dropped down to 24C (75F) over the course of 2 songs as a cool damp change came over us. The guitars went out of tune pretty quickly and we had to end the set early just to make adjustments. Was very freaky. All in all it was a great show and they paid well so I hope we get to do that gig again.
what's the name of your band? do you ever come down to Tassie?

 17. I've just bought a '62 reissue CIJ Precision (used) and the previous owner had lowered the pups and now I want to raise them. However, whatever is underneath the pups that is meant to shove 'em back up when you loosen the screws has presumably been compressed for too long and is now b*llixed. What do I replace it with and where can I buy it?
 18. Grolsch here too. Costs $6 a bottle tho and tastes like p1ss.....
 19.
Erugh, it's a super jazz....and for $4000 (roughly 2k), considering the specs: RB CUSTOM 4 * Walnut body and neck. * Ebony Fretboard + Nut. * Scale Length 34" * 14" Radius fretboard with 12th fret inlay. * Hipshot - Ultra tuners. * Kent Armstrong Soapbar Humbuckers. * P.U. selector + single coil switch/volume control * Optional tone control * S.K.B. case * $4,000 It would need to have a really really good neck on it considering the pups, tuners and probably the bridge are just off the shelf parts so to speak.
it does, it plays like a dream.....what's your alternative to off-the-shelf parts?
 20. well, last sunday dawned clear and fine, and the weather was set for a good winter day so we thought we'd just chill and have a few beers by the waterfront..on the way into town we saw a flyer advertising a jazz band on the eastern shore so we had a couple in the Custom House then caught the water taxi across the river. on the way the boatman saw a pod of dolphins so we spent 10 mins enjoying their antics. we got to the Bellerive Waterfront Tavern and settled in to watch Manhattan, and the bass player had one of these: http://rizzolo.customer.netspace.net.au/bass.htm - the RB4 model, going through a Profet and a Hartke 4x10 and it sounded and looked awesome...... i think my OH would kill me if i spent $4000 on one though.

 22.
It seems that all that is on this forum of late is "what is best" kind of topics. Good god enough man !. We used to have really good topics not just pointless crap like this.
it's a lovely sunny spring day here, set for 17C later. what's best, Celsius or Fahrenheit?
 23.
Unfortunately I've never used the old Trace gear so I can't give you a comparison, however, I have the 1210 combo and think it's superb. The build quality is excellent, solid as a rock, which I think is a result of the Peavey influence and they've sorted out the problems they were having with the covering as well. Some BCers have said that they feel the eq sliders are a bit flimsy, I haven't had a problem with them but I haven't had it long so I guess time will tell. I find it very versatile, it can give you a whole raft of tones which can be easily selected by the footswitch, the eq is very sensitive so a bit of care is needed with it. The only complaint I have is the connection used on the footswitch, it's an interference fit Din connector which I've found is very susceptable to disconnecting if the footswitch is knocked heavily. I've got around this snag by careful routeing of the cable but it's not ideal. Anyway, sorry I couldn't give you a comparison but I hope this helps. Pete
thanks for that Pete - but if anyone could give me their impressions of original vs new i'd really appreciate it.
