1. The bass arrived last week - here's the pics!! The case - very sturdy! Let's look inside. Looking good! Pretty clean, just a few nicks and scratches
2. I've got a set of fresh Elite bass strings - 45 gauge, which were taken off a new bass I received thus afternoon They were strung on a P-Bass, and as I said, they are off a new bass I received a few hours ago. Anyone who wants them, let mr know and I'll get them posted off to you - free, no charge. Kev
3. Great stuff mate! Loved it
4. Studio - I'll take whatever suits the sound required (P-Bass, Jazz, Hofner "Beatle" bass, Stingray fretted or fretless, Rickenbacker, etc). Live - I usually take a couple - one for the main body of the work (usually J-Bass or P-Bass) and the second bass as a backup. I've never had a string break on me during a gig, but you never know?
5. If you want, u could mail you mine do you can watch it, then simply post it back to me after you're done?
6.
Just checked the price list on his website and he has a 'de-fret' down as £60? Is that right!
Yup!!! That's the price!!
7. The guitars stacked up are his own, he doesn't do that with customer's instruments!! Also, he's awaiting a rack stand for instruments in the workshop
8. Spent the day with Chris. The workshop is cool. Typical Chris - neat and tidy. Here's some pics: Arriving at the workshop In we go The workshop Chris working on a Fender Marcus Miller bass Video of the workshop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrjvtUKFvUI&sns=em Video of the woodworking area http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWdymatYzuI&sns=em
9. If it's just set up stuff, Chris usually gets it all done while your there. You usually only need to leave the guitar if the work is more extensive
10. I'm popping through to see Chris in Monday - taking my refinished Surf Green Eric Johnson Strat, a Gibson Les Paul '57 goltop reissue, and a 5 string Sei Bass through for some work. Been too long since Chris and I got together. We had many great times when I stayed over at his house in London. I'll post some pics after I've been there to show Chris's new workshop.
11. The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbrjfVQTfwk&sns=em
12. I'm looking fir an Aguilar Filter Twin for my bass. Also, I'm really pleased with the result of my Fender Eric Johnson Strat, so I'm thinking of refinishing my Olympic White '62 USA reissue Jazz Bass in Shell Pink!!!!
13. I also got this for Christmas, great read. I've met Nile a few years back and he was delightful.
14. I uses to play in a band who covered Superstition, and during the drum break we'd often head off into other songs. Some were: INXS - Need Ypu Tonight (fits in REALLY well with the drum shuffle if Superstition) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhvbRZWEtd4&sns=em Queen - Another One Bites The Dust http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY0WxgSXdEE&sns=em
15. I just sent the link of this page to Paul. I think he'll be pleased to hear such nice comments regarding hid playing & tone.
16. I'd seen him in Bass Player magazine, but this is the first time I've actually heard any of his stuff. My initial impression - absolute sh*te! I certainly won't be searching out any of his stuff.
17. Just stop being a smarty pants and tell us the answer!!
18. I saw them live in Glasgow and loved it. As for the new DVD, I really wanted to love it, but as you say, Geddy's singing/warbling is really pretty awful. I actually gave my Time Machine DVD away, guess that says it all. Back to listening to Exit Stage Left for me!!! Now THAT is a fantastic live album!
19. My credit card provider recorded the transaction as fraudulent and have given me a full refund credit. Shaun Dunk (Silverstone) should be ashamed of the way he conducts himself!
20. I ordered my cover on 11th October, and now after 7 weeks I still haven't received it! The website states that it can "take up to 10 working days" to make a cover. I sent a message to them after 2 weeks asking when my cover would be ready, and got a reply the next day saying "Sorry for the delay. It usually takes 10 working days, I'll look into it tomorrow". Over the following 5 weeks I have received no further response, despite numerous messages sent requesting the courtesy of a reply indicating when I can expect the item. 2 weeks ago I sent a message saying the non response was totally unacceptable and that if no indication of the delivery of my item could be provided, I'd expect a refund. Yet again, no reply. Ice sent a further 4 such requests in the past 2 weeks - no reply. You can't call the company as the number just rings out then an automated message states "there is no-one available to take your call, and you cannot leave a message". So, I've now had to lodge it as a fraudulent transaction with my credit card company. They've stated that it can take up to 2 weeks to get a resolution. I'll keep you updated with the next chapter of the story. So, I guess the message for any potential cover buyers - avoid Silverstone Amp Covers!!!!!
21. I never even noticed the up and down arrows before this thread!!!
22. The fingerboard colour is due to the natural colouring of the wood used. If you want to find out more, drop him an email at Nordstrand Guitars. Stew made that bass himself as a side project at work.
23. Last time I broke a string was back in the early 1980's on my first bass - an Antoria Jazz cope with a terrible bridge. Steel straight edge saddles so it created ahorrible severe break angle
