1.
Auditioned one old boy for guitar and the first thing he said when he walked through the door - literally the first thing - was "You'll have to move the bass amp - I always play on stage left". What possesses someone to make them say that rather than "Hallo"?
Hahaha!!! I had the very same thing happen to a band I was in years ago. Knob end guitarist arrives at the audition at the rehearsal room, and before even saying "hi there, my name is xxxxx", he said, "that guitar amp (Marshall head with 4x12" cab) won't get my sound. And, I bet the cab is the wrong impedance. Plus you guys will have to move it to the other side of the room for me". Next thing that was said was me putting my bass on it's stand, walking to the guy to shake his hand and say " thanks for coming. Don't bother getting your guitar out of it's case, you'd be a nightmare to play with". The guy replied "WHAT??? Aren't you going to at least hear what I can do?". To which my response was "to be honest, I think all we want to hear from you is the door closing behind you, you need to work on your people skills. Thanks for coming anyhow". A bit harsh on my part, but saved us a half hour of grief I reckon. The next guitarist who came in was great!! Really nice guy who actually listened to what everyone else was doing and played to enhance our sound.
2. Car loaded up with 3 basses and 2 guitars. Chris McIntyre will be a busy boy today! I'll post some pics of the completed pink P-Bass when I get home.
3. If the headstock is maple. It'll just take a couple of light mist coats to seal. Sand flat, apply the logo and then mist coat over that to seal the decal in place
4. Here's a link to the refinish I did on my Fender Eric Johnson Strat and my USA '62 reissue Jazz Bass (the Jazz Bass is now owned by John Haimes (Haimesy on this site). Eric Johnson Strat http://basschat.co.uk/topic/163365-refinishing-fender-strat/ USA '62 Jazz Bass http://basschat.co.uk/topic/165861-fender-usa-62-jazz-bass-refinish-at-home/page__fromsearch__1 I've also finished a bare wood mid 50's style P-Bass in Shell Pink which will be assembled and setup tomorrow (this was a new build rather than a refinish. The body is swamp ash)
5. No need to get to the bare wood. If you do decide to get to bare wood, you'll need to seal the bare wood first, sand flat and then begin the primer / topcoats application. If you sand to a flat finish with a good key to it, that'll provide a great basis for the refinish application (assuming of course that you're going for a colour finish rather than a sunburst! If you're thinking of doing a sunburst, you'd need to get down to the bare wood). Make sure everything is totally flat first - use a sanding block to ensure no dips. Have fun!!! Applying the new finish is great! Seeing the instrument take on a new colour is a great feeling.
6. For me a month and a half passed by, I emailed the company (only way to do that is via the "leave a comment" section on the website). Next day I received a reply saying they'd get it to me in a few days later. Another month and a half passes, with numerous messages sent, none if which Silverstone replied to. It was at that point I contacted my bank to file a fraudulent transaction claim. I advised silverstone of this, still no response. I cannot recommend this company lowly enough! Hahaha
7. I contacted my bank after I placed an order with silverstone. The bank credited my account with the amount after filing it as a fraudulent transaction. Give your bank a call mate. And I too have heard nothing but good reports about Roqsolid.
8.
If you think you're losing treble due to cable capacitance it's easier/cheaper to just use a shorter cable than a higher-quality cable. I bet any £5 10ft cable sounds better than any £80 20ft cable given a passive bass as an input signal.
Yup!!!!!
9. Andy, I'm the same - very frustrating, huh?
10. I've got a super expensive studio pro Monster cable that I don't use - probably don't want to damage it as it was about £80-90 or so!! Anyhow, my friend Paul Turner was gigging and he forgot his lead - oops!!!!! I gave him my Monster cable and he used it on the gig and them in the studio s few days later. His impression of it? He didn't like it!! He found that the super clarity of the signal seemed to increase the midrange which gave him a sound he didn't particularly like. In fact, he was interviewed in s magazine somewhere and he mentioned high end cables. His comment was along the lines of "I've seen the ads that say "can you hear the difference"? Well, I can, and I don't like it! Hahaha". So, Paul just uses his preferred Planet Waves leads. Affordable and reliable.
11. Don't end up like this guy! Hahaha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DbUPjEbIvA&sns=em
12. Change of plan - I'm going through to Edinburgh to see Chris McIntyre on Thursday, so the pink bass will be ready to shift sone air on Thursday evening after he assembles and sets the bass up - can't wait!!!
13. That facing is really gonna look amazing when the finish is applied!
14. Cool! I didn't know that. I was looking at BassChat on my iPhone
15. You can edit the post and remove your text (just leave a full stop or something in the text field instead). That way, there's nothing for anyone else to read. If you want the post completely removed, than as was mentioned above, get a moderator to do it for you mate.
16. Do whatever you want matey!! It's your own bass, so you can call the shots! My own New build Shell Pink mid 50's style P-Bass will be completed on Monday - can't wait!
17. Hey, why all the venom? They're not bad strings, just seems like a lot of you prefer some other brands? I'd have no problem using Rotos on any of my basses.
18. That's the supplier I used for the refinishes on my Fender Eric Johnson Strat and fender USA '62 Reissue Jazz Bass Jazz Bass Refinish (Shell Pink) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/165861-fender-usa-62-jazz-bass-refinish-at-home/page__fromsearch__1 Eric Johnson Strat refinish (Surf Green) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/163365-refinishing-fender-strat/page__fromsearch__1
19. I'm off work next week, so the pink P-Bass will be assembled and set up this coming Monday. Yippee!!!
20. A great cover version, if you're not duplicating the original, should make the song different. So, here's Devo's version of The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I09xjQgMAI&sns=em
21.
Hope this doesn't end up like another of the OPs previous threads where he stamps his feet & goes on & on for page after page demanding money until someone gives up & pays to shut him up.
Hahaha - my thoughts too!!!
22. The biggest surprise for me was Pete Townshend's comment regarding Keith Moon, saying that he "really didn't think much of him as s drummer". It's really interesting to hear the viewpoint of the individuals involved at the core of the creative process.
23.
thanks I'm just after a gold pickup cover for the neck pickup then it done
Just search eBay using "Jazz Bass cover" and you'll get what you're looking for.
24. Interparcel are really good. I've used them to send stuff to Belgium, Germany, Portugal and Monaco. Fully tracked. www.Interparcel.com
