1. Yh i recon the darker the pics the better! that certainly doesn't look handmade, more homemade, but if it is handmade then this was the hand that made it! lol
 2. Oh and I think someone mentioned earlier that you can get it in a one off incident, yep! that was me! in few hours! Im sure years of working on site and playing in a very load band and going to loads of rock gig did my hearing no favours but I got the tinitus in one day, so be careful out there! lol
 3. £150 to much? man that is a shed load of money and you can deffo protect for cheaper, I guess its down to what you want to hear and how well you hear it, and i'm NO expert on that for sure but i'll can tell you one thing, £20 or £150 I wish i'd bloody done it years ago because I suffer from tinitus and its not nice to live with, you deal with it because you really don't have a choice, but man theres sometimes I really wish I didn't have to! protect, protect, protect, lol
 4. Just a quick heads up, the EMG eq I offered up went in the first half an hour, sorry to anyone who mailed after that! Have a great week everybody!
 5.
I guess it depends on what you need from an EQ. The EMG system is transparent and 'colourless' tonally, only providing boost and cut to the frequencies specified in the spec sheet. Therefore, if you send it a bland signal, then that's what you'll get out of it. If you replace it with a certain well known preamp that has a lot of colouring in it, then the EMG will sound flat in comparison. I've heard people reviewing the likes of the EBS Multicomp calling it flat and lifeless too, but again, this is a really transparent pedal not designed to colour the signal at all - i think the same applies to that too. I put EMGs in to my first serious bass many years ago (about 20 I think!) and I've always used them - even when I tried something else, I've come back to EMG. Yeah, great pickups - powerful. I really like that you can make EMGs sound old skool easiliy if you want, but it's much more difficult to get an old skool sounding pickup to sound like a modern EMG. As for guitar pickups - If they're good enough for Dave Gilmour - and of course my fellow LickLibrary tutor and (sometimes band) mate Andy James, then that's a pretty good endorsement I reckon!
Fair enough, thats good info, thank you, It really didn't colour it all, I must admit I was using a cheap pair of p/u's, and it did sound bland, and yep when I replaced that EQ with 'a certain known EQ' it did come to life, I'm sure it would of sounded ok if coupled with a pair of EMG's, but for that bass the EQ changed it insanely, it was my first build and had some great tonewoods in it (wenge, bubinga) and I was excepting more punch from it, but was quite bland with the EMG. Strangely to this day is still the second best sounding bass (to my ears) i've made, I don't use off the shelf p/u's anymore, that was the first and last one, but if I did and I needed range in that bass the I'd go for that EQ every time. I maybe should of given the EMG another whirl with a decent set of p/u's. my bad!
 6. never used the pick ups but I did install a EMG EQ once, it was bloody awful and cost £120, total bland crap, think I've still got it some where, It might sound better coupled up to some EMG p/u's, free to anyone who wants to pay postage!
 7.
Hammond playing bass. Clarkson can't play drums
Fricking awesome!! lol, i've been to watch bands not as good as that! lol, in fact I think I've been in a couple too! lol
 8. Johnny depp, jeff bridges, gary oldman, and hulk hogan, lol, I did a quick google and recon there around 25 plus fair sized actors who play bass, awesome!! used to read a bit of kevin McCloud's books back....baaack in the day when I was studying interior design and finishing! sweet that he plays!!! used to think he was alright know his deffo a cool dude! lol
 9.
Name of Gary Sinise's band is the Lieutenant Dan Band - named after his character in Forrest Gump & he's been taught by Jeff Berlin.
I remember that now, awesome!! there quite a few famous bass playing actor thou arn't there?
 10.
There's quite a little team who don't 'get' these basses. They should all be converted into guitar type SGs.
You have a fair ole point there 4-strings, they are a strange ole beastie!
 11.
The strings wouldn't bother me so much but the rust on the frets isn't acceptable, I'd have no problems sending it back. I wonder how many so called new basses are actually new, it seems fairly common for shops to sell what they've got hanging on the walls as new even though they've probably been played hundereds of times.
That is a very good point, everyone wants to play a bass before they buy so they go and thump away at the shop, I bet most "new" basses have had hours an hours of playing on them, good ones even more so as everyone comes to play but not to pay, I recon the only way to actually get a new bass is mail order, direct from manufactures or custom made! does make you think, sometimes a recent second hand might not be as "second hand" as a new one? lol
 12. No matter how much you pay for a new bass it should be that...new.. rust on the frets and nastie strings is a no no, and if they cant even be bothered to wipe a bit dust off that not good customer service! send it back for sure!
 13.
I know someone who used Creosote on his bedroom furniture. It made his whole house stink of it and he completely refused to admit that he'd done anything wrong. Hmmm, I wonder if that's what made him go nuts and attack his wife and kids (and my brother) with a sword?
Lol, no... That's some brave man, and that's some stink!! He must of spent a few high days! Lol
 14.
I've found some Creosote in the shed... I wonder...
Lmao! Well at least it won't ever rot!!
 15. If you clean and put some oil on the biggest thing it does is put a smile on your face because your fretboard is all clean an new looking with the wood all lovely coloured again! and thats the best part! no matter what oil you put on, i'm sure every one puts only a small amount on and wipes off the excess inside a matter of a minute so the thin oils like lemon oil only really penetrate the wood by a few microns if your lucky and the heavier oil really just sit on top, neither really do the wood much good internally, its just a matter of cleaning them, sealing them a bit and protecting them from moisture, which in your warm houses isn't so much of a problem. fretboards are made of the hardest woods nothing really soaks in, unless you have indian rosewood an piss thin hot oil and you bath it in it for hours, sh*t a lot of the wood used for fretboard don't even float! lol I like lemon oil for fretted guitars as it cleans as it goes and I don't like heavy oil on my frets even after wiping then but on a fretless I fancy linseed as its more protective, but sh*t in the old days I used all sorts of things! I found that used car oil gives it a lovely ebonized effect, joking, lol an I wouldn't use cooking oil because I would end up rushing out mid gig for chips! lol
 16.
Thanks harleyheath, I'll look into that! Never thought of that!
No problem at all, I hope it goes well.
 17.
I remember reading on of the luthiers who frequents on here saying that he felt that quarter sawn was too stiff and a well made flat sawn neck would sound better
Thats fair it is stiffer, buy far, I guess it each to his own, flat sawn does give a different sound, but so does bolt on, which I don't really do either, if you go to a good luthier supply and buy neck wood off the shelf it will be quarter sawn as standard, so quarter is the standard of choice, but as said in another post it didn't matter much to Fender who as to date I've yet to see one quarter sawn neck from. Horses for courses, but in my humble and trying not to tread on people toes option the stiffer the neck the more resonance, sustain and balance, but thats me. The reason Fender and some other companies had to put in two way truss rods is that with one piece flat sawn it can go any way and you have to be ready for that. now laminating flat sawn will help but as I said its all about what you want your bass to sound like, an what you feel is right for your bass. If I personally thought flat was the way for me I'd do it because its bloody way cheaper!! but again horses for courses!
 18.
Not slapped, but at least 2ft too high IMHO; Thunderbird: You're doing it wrong!
lol, awesome! that is high for a bird, given that its normally a knee warmer, Love it, thank you!
 19.
it's a martin dc1xe its prob about 6 years old and it is a matte finish, if that helps?
As far as I know Martin use a catalysed nitro finish on there tops, think its called 'chem sheen'? I think they used a rub on poly on the X series, if you want to restore and re-protect it I would use either of these, i'm sure a e-mail to Martin will get you the info on the one they used and then a trip to your local car paint place will knock you up a rattle can of nitro an you can buy wipe on poly from most good furniture finishing places, you wont be able to buy from Martin as they cant ship volatiles over seas! hope this helps.
 20.
Harleyheath: Dictionary:
LMAO!! well it seems there is! im screwed! lol
 21.
can i use fretboard oil on the tops of acoustic guitars? mine has a little strumming rash?
I probably wouldn't, its very unlikely its been finished in oil and theres a good chance it will go quite dark and show up more, its a softwood top softwood tends to darken heaps with oil, and soak it right up, a very thin mineral oil put on heavy could screw your top completely! deaden the sound and weaken the wood, you could try a tiny bit of light wax, the one without any heavy thinners in it as that will screw your top too! how old is it, and what finished does it look like it has on it?
 22.
Whats the f***ing point of that then. It's quicker to make em by hand.
Lmao, too right! and i'll bet they'll sound a whole heap better than plastic!!
 23.
And you can never leave, Never.
LMAO!
 24. Just lovely!! I love the sound of a fretless!! nicely played!
 25. I'd love to see a thunderbird ramped up high mark king style an slapped like larry graham on speed, that would be awesome! video please!!
