1.
Is it a valve amp? You should be OK driving it into 8 ohms if so - it's under-loading an output transformer that's a no-no. I have an Eminence Kappa you can try if you like, I'm often in Ely. PM me if I can help.
Lovely offer......thank you! PM'd.
 2. Hi folks My old '72 Celestion G15C (15", 16ohm) is no more and need a replacement. It came out of an old WEM Dominator Mk1 Bass combo (valve) from 1972. The combo is rated at 15-30 watts, although we're talking valve watts, so ideally I'd like a 50-200 watt bass driver but would consider up to 450 watt at a push. Anyone aware where I might find a driver with these specs? Or, better still, anyone got one they want to get rid of?!!! I've spent ages looking online and have come up with an Eminance Kappa rated at 450 watts but that's abut it. Really appreciate any advice/help.........cheers! Guy
 3. What is the weight and is it well balanced on a strap?
 4.
you'll need to click on the 'Use full editor' button at the bottom of the text box - should take you right to it.

That should do it - or drop a PM to one of the moderators
Thanks guys, why on earth didn' I see that!!!
 5. Hi folks Can anyone explain how I edit the title of a post for a 'bass for sale'? I can edit the body of the text but just can't work out how to edit the title! Cheers
 6. Hi Guys I took this strat in as a trade in a deal for one of my old Fenders and need another strat like a 3rd armpit. So.....up for grabs at a very sensible price, delivered, or as a possible deal for a US Jazz B, cash either way. The guitar has all its goodies including original G&G hard case. All round condition is great, only minor issue is that two of the neck plate bolts have been very slightly overtightened and the lacquer has risen slightly immediately around the bolts. Really no big deal at all but for the sake of full disclosure..... The weight is about 8lbs on my scales so quite reasonable for a US reissue but on a strap it feels much lighter as it's perfectly balanced. Sounds really nice too.....in fact in terms of sound and feel, and indeed finish, this guitar beats a custom shop strat I had very briefly. Lovely dark board, not reddish as so many new strats have - this is quite chocolatey. Not sure what year, believe it is mid 2000s but could be miles out. Happy to ship this via City Link on a Next Day within the asking price but this will not be insured as this service has been 100% reliable every time I've used it. Will be packed well in a guitar carton. If insurance is required I'm happy to get a quote - probably £10-£15 extra I guess. Alternatively, if you're within spitting distance of Cambridge come and try it anytime.
 7. I'll have The Bass Book please.....let me know how you'd like me to pay. Cheers Guy
 8.
I've done it a few times. Use a dried out one from the kitchen rather than a brand new one and keep stopping to check. It's a pain BUT if you get into it too much in the same direction you'll mark it in a certain way. It should only take a couple of minutes but the "less is more" theory is the key. Do the screw heads fairly vigorously though or they'll shine like beacons! If you do over do it at all it only looks fake from a few inches away. As I said I've done a few now and I only mucked up one cover in all that time. Good luck
Great stuff, thanks for that....really helpful. I'll give it go when the parts arrive. I would have used a new brillo so good to know I need to use a dry used one. Wish me luck!!!
 9.
Hi surfguy13, thank you for your offer, but the eb3 , isnt the sound i am looking for, but i appreciate the offer. cheers George
No problems George, I totally understand, not everybody's cup of tea!! Love Ric though and I'm sure someone will bite your arm off - if I had the readies..........you know the story! Good luck with it!
 10.
An example of my efforts with a brillo pad. It's subtle but totally hitting the spot. I have a few threads on here where I've mentioned it. This is a 76 Jazz with modern covers. Works for me Anything more will be too obvious
Wow!! That's amazing. You really have cracked it, looks just perfect. As you say, just the right level of wear and it looks extremely convincing. You said don't rub too much in one direction - is it OK to just to rub it over in any direction or maybe circles? I shall order a new one tonight now that I've seen your home grown ageing!!
 11.
A few ebay shops specialize is aged new parts. Just put aged into the search bar along with the part type. They usually seem to be stupidly expensive though, so the diy route might be best! Yeah, agree totally. With postage and aged 'set' of bridge and pickup covers was going to be £65-£80 plus duty....outragous!
GR guitars, in the US but I've always done well with them.
This is definitely the best website I've seen.....excellent range of bass parts both aged and straight. Bookmarked for future reference!!

I'm having the same problem trying to find scruffy pickguard screws and 70 Jazz pickup screws. If anyone has any going space please drop me a PM. Hope I'm not hijacking your thread too much surfguy!
Hijack away!! Makes perfect sense. I have a magic tin of 'old' screws and bolts so if you could give me an idea if they are domed or flat screws (domed I guess) and what length the screws are I will have a rummage and see what I've got! Check out GR Guitars....gaffbass02 suggested it and the range of screws is mind-boggling!
Get new covers and rub them gently for a bit with a dry brillo pad. It's a cheat I've used in the past and makes them look authentic. Don't rub them too much in the same direction and go for an even covering - you'll be amazed at how good it looks
I did wonder about getting a new one and having a go at ageing it - if a brillo pad works then I'm game!! I had a look online and with a bottle of hydrochloric acid you can do wonders apparently but not too sure if I want to go quite that far!!!
 12. I suppose a '73 EB3 wouldn't float your boat? http://s763.photobucket.com/albums/xx272/surfguy13/1973%20Gibson%20EB3/
 13. I have a mid 70 P Bass for which I want to try and find an aged bridge cover.....or ideally an old one. Had a look round and there don't seem to be any places that sell bass aged parts. The guitar is well worn and a brand new sparkly bridge cover might look a bit odd, hence the search either for an old one or an aged part. Can't get my head round relic guitars, this one is 100% naturally aged (see photo), but there are instances where they have a place. Any links or ideas would be much appreciated. Or, if you have one you don't want.........?!
 14.
Alright if you are expecting to sound like a guitar. The speakers are going to break up a fair bit, so you'll have a lot of distortion even if the amp is clean, don't try and get any bottom out of it.
That's really helpful....thanks! I will indeed be careful in respect of dialing in too much bass!!
I've used pretty much the same cab for the last 30years for bass duties, a Marshall 4x12 loaded with 50w speakers (only one original Celestion though). It really depends what you're looking for in a cabinet - it won't do any real bass, as the frequency response drops off like a stone below 100hz. But then I've always been about low mids rather than bass. And this cabs has low mids aplenty. You're unlikely to do any damage to it so give it a shot. Mine survived 6 months as the bass backline in a rehearsal room with 175w on tap, with doubtless the typical kind of abuse studio amps get, and only one speaker got damaged. With sensible use you'll be fine.
You're SO right! That is really what I needed to know, whether I was going to do any damage as I really like the cab for guitar.
Marshall guitar cabs and Bass cabs of that era used the same speakers, in fact they were the same cabs. I know, I took enough backs off during the time. Guitar cabs were rated at 100w and bass cabs were rated at 75w and had bass on them. That's what I was wondering - if Marshall cabs in the 70s were the same for bass and guitar. I suspected they were due to the lack of real thump and as Musky said, you get low mids but no real bottom end. The speakers in the cab are 55Hz so they are 'bass' speakers and the cones are stamped 444 which apparently confirms they are bass speakers so I was told today so I don't think I can do any real damage at all unless I'm unlucky. Really appreciate the replies and the suggestions. Not sure if the cab is going to do it for me in the long term but I will continue to use it until I can find a dedicated bass cab.
15. Hi Folks Been looking for a cab to use with my old '65 Selmer Treble and Bass head. I suddenly realised that I have a mid 70s Marshall 4x12 with 55 Hz speakers. Could I use the cab for bass without damaging the speakers? I was told that Marshall used these speakers in both their guitar and bass cabs in the 70s (the 55Hz greenbacks) so I'm hoping they should be OK. This is, however, a guitar cab not a bass cab. The head is a 50 watt head and the speakers are, I think, 25 watt greenbacks so hopefully there should be enough tolerance there. I'm not gigging, I'm a guitarist, and only use a bass in my converted garage so not horrendously high volumes. Photo of speakers below.....I hope?!
 16. A gentle bank holiday bump......have updated to confirm that I would be happy to take a bass combo in part ex as well as a cab. Maybe even a Fender bass.......
 17.
If you can find a cheap courier I'd be happy to package it up. It's pretty light .. let me know if you need to know dimensions etc..
Great, re dimensions, yes please although I'll probably be able to get them on the net. Cheers Guy
 18. Hmmmm...this is just what I'm after but a looooong way off. Now I'm guessing that a courier would be prohibitive on the grounds of price alone but if we can get it down here cheaply I'll definitely have it.
 19. Up for grabs my old EB3. Lovely bass, huge sound and all working as it should. The EB3 is in pretty good condition for a guitar that's nearly 40 years old and it weighs in at 9.2lb which means it isn't a back-breaker either. Everything works perfectly and the action, for me, is pretty good. The varitone functions well (I think!!) - all the selections certainly provide a different sound and assume these are as intended. The pots are dated 1973 and the serial number is: 106775 The case is a home-made job but pretty damn solid and light as well. It's as strong as a standard case. Fits the bass well too so there's a minimum of movement. Tuners are the original Schallers and work well, no tuning issues at all. It's fitted with Fender short-scale strings. Frets are pretty good too and they are original. No issues in terms of excessive wear. One of the bridge saddles appears not to be original but it works perfectly and I’m sure it’s no major issue to find a spare saddle or even make one? I would consider a trade for a Fender P, ideally a 70s, or a Les Paul (guitar) or similar with 2 humbuckers. Asking [s]£950[/s] [s] £900[/s] £850 Happy to ship anywhere. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like any more photos.
 20. PLEASE IGNORE THIS POST AND SEE MY OTHER POST FOR THE BASS - THE PHOTOS DIDN'T LOAD INTO THIS POST. THANKS. Having just bought a long scale bass from Toppers I really can't justify keeping my EB3 as well. I'm a guitarist, not a bass player, and just use a bass when messing around with a 16 track. I'm after a cab to run with my old '65 Selmer Treble and Bass head - not too familiar with bass cabs but want something decent quality. Happy to take a cab in p/ex. I think the going price for these early 70s guitars is around £1000 so that's more or less where I'm at but, as with cabs, I’m not familiar with bass gear so.........?! Happy to ship anywhere. 21. A Way Huge Swollen Pickle? Nice bit of kit!
 22.
Big sealed cab is the trad thing. What sort of budget? Does at home mean needs to be small and tidy, or cab be big and heavy because won't need moving? Is it the 50 or 100w one?
Right, very good questions! It's a 50 watt head. It matters not at all what the cab looks like or what size it is. I have a dedicated rehearsal room that is only used for that purpose. However, I use the bass for recording my own stuff, writing etc - I won't be gigging it.....ever! I'm a guitarist!!!! I guess I'd prefer not to have a monstrous cab as I already have a 4x12 and a couple of oversized 2x12s as well as a couple of AC30 sized combos in there. Budget - trying to keep it as low as possible but really don't want anything crappy. Prefer to pay a bit more for something that sounds decent. From looking around it seems that bass cabs have a tendency to be maybe a little cheaper than guitar cabs but I really have no idea what format I should go for....single 15", 2x10", 4x10" etc etc
 23. Had some good advice from forum members re using this head for bass rather than guitar as I have been doing for 35+ years. I'm looking for a decent quality cab (secondhand) to use with the T&B but have no idea at all what might/might not work. I'm a guitarist. There are so many speaker configurations and sizes, to say nothing of cabs, that it's a bit of a minefield. The T&B is a valve head BTW. Any advice as to what might be a good option would be very much appreciated. I'm using an old early 70s EB3 and will not be gigging with it, simply using it at home in a garage converted into a rehearsal room. I really like the deep bottom end I get with the EB3 but also like the clarity I get with the bridge pickup too so ideally a cab that can offer a bit of both. Thanks guys and hope this isn't too much of a loaded question?
