    Hello BCers I've recently bought a Hofner V63 reissue through this forum (thanks Pablo) and so my 500/1 Contemporary and vintage Hofner case (green interior) is now for sale. The bass is the typical 1964 spec with bound neck and finished in an attractive dark tobacco sunburst (when viewed alongside my V63, it's virtually indistinguishable), which is in immaculate (as new) condition with no scratches or buckle rash, etc. All plastic and metal fittings are clean and unscratched/untarnished. The bass has been used for practice and only lightly gigged so has been cosseted. The bass has been fitted with white teacup knobs and is strung with flats. The umlauts on the logo on the headstock have been 'inked out' to mimic the older logo, but the bass will be sold with a plastic Hofner raised logo if the buyer wants to make the bass a more authentic 1964-type model (this logo is now sold out at North Coast Music and no more will be available from that source). The shaped Hofner case is slightly older (ca. 7 years) and is slightly road worn to the exterior (slight scuffing but in very good, sturdy condition) and lacks its key, but the catches are complete and working. I've monitored EBay, retail prices and have taken advice from more experienced members on the Forum and I'd like to ask £420 ($650) plus shipping (and associated fees if using PayPal). So the opportunity to buy an 'as new' bass at a substantial saving. I am happy to deliver to my local area and the SE of England (Hampshire/Surrey/Berkshire/Kent/London) if the travel costs are met or to use your preferred shipper/courier. Please PM me if interested.     Lovely bass - purchased one new in 1982 and had it for many years. Great craftsmanship and range of tones available...be prepared for a heavy bass though... Good luck with the sale.

    I have one of these Eko basses (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03dkeziYLAY, played as it should be). Teamed with a small Vox Pathfiner 10 it has plenty of volume for most small ensembles.

    My old Ibanez Musician 924 was accessible all the way up to the 24th without too much stretching. A comparatively heavy bass, but beautifully put together with a real range of great tones. You can regularly find them on EBay for around £500.

I was a massive fan of The Police and determined to get one of these after seeing it in a Melody Maker article on the recording of Zenyatta Mondatta in Hilversum. I tracked down the company was selling them and approached them directly for an ex demo version (about 40% the price of the new one). Had to sell two beginner's basses (Hohner P and J basses) and add some money, but well worth it and never looked back...

Have you ever been tempted to try a more modern pickup? [/quote] Thanks for your interest BassBod. It's all stock - including the adjustable bridge (see the H. van Zalinge stamp). I've never felt the need to change the pickup, it's a beautiful, dark, swelling sustained sound - think 'Moon over Bourbon Street' on Dream of the Blue Turtles - which is achieved with a stereo chorus or much of the double tracked lines on Zenyatta Mondatta. Then, I always used a Polytone pickup/Polytone Minibrute combination on my acoustic double basses so it was a natural progression. Despite the limited soundbox, it's also quite loud unplugged - easily on a par with my Eko electric/acoustic bass and perfectly loud enough for practice. The only drawback is that the tone needs to be shortened a little for some genres (used to play some trad jazz when I was younger) when a mute/damper is useful.

    Hi Everyone I've been visiting a fair bit, but I'm a relative newbie here. I thought that I'd post some images of my Van Zalinge Z bass (originally purchased as an ex demo model from the BUCA bv showroom in Bussum in 1986). It's one of the production models (rather than one of the dozen or so instruments hand crafted by Henk Van Zalinge), but lovely quality. It's fairly basic - simple jack socket, plug and play with a Z transducer (Polytone type). Still my darling after all these years - wouldn't consider selling her. Does anybody else on the Forum have one to share?
