1. Indeed...
2. Too late! I've ordered one!!!
3. Grrr, stop that guys, I'm soo close to waving my credit card at Thomann... Also because I could get that set of flatwounds for the other 5-stringer at the same time... Oh. My. God....
4. Yes but... where's the saving in that then?
5. I would be tempted to get a 5, just for the sake of GAS, if they weren't fretless. Pity.
6. PS I've had a quick look - the really cheap ones appear to be fretless models only. If that rocks your boat, go for it.
7. I've got two of them already, so don't need any more. But they're good for their price. Are they 2010 models? I remember somebody telling me that Warwick had to reject practically the whole shipment of Rockbasses (from China) becasue they simply weren't up to the required minimum standard of quality.
8. There is something in the DB that gets you totally hooked as soon as you play your first notes on it. Part of that may be thanks to us already being familiar with bass playing when we approach a DB - as opposed to absolute beginners when we start on the electric for the very first time - and therefore finding it easier than we thought. But there's got to be something else... the awesome sound, the need for your musical ear to be at its most sensitive, the opportunity to become lost in your world while you strive to keep the best intonation... and more. Well done both of you guys for gigging with your uprights.
9. Welcome, Hari!
10. I have Warwicks, and the nut height is adjustable through a screw at each end of the nut. It's not a black art, but I suppose it's down to personal preference, and should be adjusted together with the string height you set at the bridge. These two settings together will influence string action even before you touch the truss rod.
11. I'm a late starter as a musician, and so far I've only played along to records at home. It's more of a therapeutic effect than any degree of ambition, but I do practise and strive to improve etc. I always say that, if I could go back in time to when I was a teenager, I would re-live my life, for good and for bad, without any changes, except for one - I would start studying music and playing an instrument at an early age. I'm in W4. Do you play in West London? Last month I went to see Basschat's very own Happy Jack and MacDaddy with their band The Junkyard Dogs at the George in Chiswick High Road, and a jolly good evening it was. It's great to meet new musician friends this way.
12. Thomann can deliver to a neighbour if you instruct the courier so at the time of your purchase.
13. LOL @ your mention of 'actual guitarists' - I think that actual bassists can be actual guitarists as well (although I'm not one of them).
14. And also, a single thread would soon become unwieldy, and need to be split up into several others, or continued separately, I suppose (that's my experience on other forums).
15. ... but in the meantime, Fast Fret works miracles on long-scale flatwounds - seriously.
16. *writes name and website down and puts note in a safe place*
17.
Which one? Apart from the Wing-Bat they all feature aluminium as a major constructional material.
The first in the list, the shiny one Not that I would be able to play it, right-handed or not, though...
18. ... AND for bassists who are also guitarists.
19. Thanks for the video, Fatback. Will watch again and again and learn!
20. Hm, am I the only one who thinks Janmaat was being sarcastic, at least in part?
21. ROFLing at the most recent posts! I want the aluminium guitar! Such a pity it's right-handed
22. Welcome George! Impressive experience in music and impressive gear. No hints ans tips that I can offer, but I'm sure many others will post here and be as helpful to you as they've been to me. This is a very friendly place.
23.
It's unlikely you'll find any music forum as friendly, interesting, and musically diverse as BassChat. I've never seen another one that even comes close.
Exactly. If I understand correctly, though, MacDaddy was implying that the guitar-related subforum on BC would be specific for those of us who play both instruments, not like a normal guitar forum like many you can find elsewhere. (Happy to stand corrected if I got it wrong.) Even if I don't play guitar I might like to lurk on such subforum, as I'm fascinated by how two instruments that look so similar can in fact be so different in the way they are played and in their use in composing songs.
