1. Is music really like any other mundane job? I don't think it can be compared. What do you think?
2.
What about the virgin part?
I didn't intend to enquire about that regarding you guys
3.
Moore responds 'Hey man. I don't like to talk about my music' to whcih the mutual friend says 'Oi. Stop being a c*** and talk to the guy. He's been paying your wages for decades'. So he did. Which was nice.....
He shouldn't have needed to be reminded, but it was nice of him anyway.
4.
You didn't see the Gwizmon fiasco during which Gwiz got pissed off and didn't post anything since and the offending member got himself banned. It's funny how we treat successful people in this country. Love and rooting for the underdog quickly turns to petty hatred when they hit the big time. We dehumanise and objectify them and subject them to quantification. Mark King's better than Flea, Flea is a c*nt, etc. You would not see ShergoldSnickers is better than thisnameistaken, tnit is sh*t on here would you? Until they both get multiple platinum ablums and massive tours. Then see how long it takes
The attitude of people sitting behind their PC screen and further protected by a screen name is different from their behaviour in person. I have happened to meet in real life members of other forums I profoundly disliked "on screen" and got along with them famously. And I've more often than not seen famous musicians walking along the street minding their own business - Maiden spring to mind as they are local - being respectfully allowed to keep minding such business without being mobbed for autographs or asked stupid questions while queueing at the till in Waitrose.
5. OK, I see what you guys meant in the first place when you described the effect of a girl joining...
6.
This thread is actually more embarrasing than when a girl joins and everyone reverts to being 14 year old virgins. He's just a bloke. If he's here to join in, have a laugh, and tell lies about women, then all is cool. Doesn't have to be more complicated than that. Now stop acting like a bunch of.... GUITARISTS!
LOOOOL! Didn't notice that when I joined. Might be because I'm no longer 14 myself?
7. Welcome J! Impressive gear you've got there, and also a lot of musical experience, despite being so young. Good to see you're open-minded about the kinds of music you like to play - that's the right attitude. I wish I had started on bass at your age or even earlier! Stay with us, this is a nice place
8. Lovely photo, beautiful girlfriend, and lovely polo shirt. I'm tempted to get one, the smallest possible size, and then take it in and see if I manage to fit it. Would be good to start a thread of us wearing BC shirts and I'd love to join in! I'll have a look at the sizing chart and see if there's any way to turn whichever is the tiniest into a damn size 6... Edit: Dave, tell her she's gorgeous in those photos, no need for hair, makeup or trickery.
9. I believe Warwick listened to customer feedback and improved their necks. They are fine now - if my tiny hands can use a Warwick 5er, I think anybody can!
10. Welcome, Ash! I'm sure one of the veterans will help you soon re. selling gear. Stay around and join us in our rants and raves!
11.
That's very kind. All the site donations and shop funds go back to developing the site at the moment, as we have a few big things coming up which cost mega bucks to develop. I think it's best that people who donate to the site see their donations bring benefits to them directly though better features and improvements. I decided to sponsor Dinesh with my own money though as it costs half the price of my road tax to put him through school for a year! I'm hoping he will become a famous bass player and I'll make my money back
Excellent - I thoroughly agree. And kudos (and big thanks) to you for the hard work.
12. I'm getting a gift PC and screen from a friend whose office is clearing out some old stuff. Will make a donation to Basschat - to be used both for the site itself and for this young chap you sponsor. Edit: My old PC just crashed at the thought!
13. Looks interesting. Thanks! I haven't got a Kindle but will try the PC verson.
14. Get well very soon, Hobbayne, and be there. We'll be looking for you.
15. Welcome! And yes, we can hear you! Stay with us, we're happy to listen
16.
Oooh, very hi-tech. A twitter-literate (twitterate?) friend asked if we were having a "tweetup".
I'm on Twitter as @BassClef78 and I follow both @basschatuk and @bassguitarshow, but I haven't got a smartphone, which means I'm only half a twitterate, so to speak... I need to have my laptop or netbook with me for it to work
17. Welcome Chris! Fellow Warwick player here - although the cut-price versions. Grab yerself a 5-stringer, you won't look back
18. Welcome, Mike! Perhaps now that you're part of our community you will play bass on a more regular basis? There is also an "Other Instruments" subforum on this site.
19. Will do! And I'm warning you all - my camera will be with me all the time, and I anticipate a massive Facebook album with photos of all kinds of gear and hopefully of new friends among you guys (and gals)!
20. HAHA! At the moment I've got a ticket for Saturday. I'll see what I'll feel like doing on Sunday and maybe get another ticket. The meetups at the various stands and possibly at the pub later are still on!
21. I agree with the previous posts - experiment with the height and position of the bass, try playing while sitting down, to see if it makes any difference, and make sure you haven't got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (which is what happened to me a few months ago). The latter may not have been caused by your bass playing, but you might be feeling the pain the most when you play bass.
22. Thinking of ditching 5 strings and going back to 4? No. Absolutely not. No f***ing way.
23. LOL no bananas in my public set of Flickr photos, but lots of Warwick basses! Oh,and some other pics I took for the past competitions on this site
24. Yup, got it now - hadn't noticed the difference before.
