London gigs advertised there will necessarily have a much higher success rate, in terms of influencing people from BC to come and see the band, due to the sheer density of the population. I'm subscribed to that forum and get every new thread sent to me via email. Through that I have been to gigs by BCers I didn't know at all, as well as BCers i'm friends with. My opinion is that the forum is fine as it is - you do need social media and a website, possibly all clickable in your sig, if you really want to spread the word to non-bassists, though.

Can't help much, as I'm concentrating on the PR rather than the route, but the bass is now in Portsmouth with its rightful owner, and will travel with him to Bristol on Sunday and to London on Monday.

Yes, it would be good to have some idea of the masterclasses that have finally been agreed on, and of the special guests, if any. We are working hard so that the Basschat Relay Baton visits the Bash as a guest ( ), together with James himself if at all possible.

For instance, what use are the "friends" we have here? We don't get preferred updates from them, or indeed have any more interaction with them than with all other members. So yes, I'd be in favour of a slightly more complete profile feature on here. As for Facebook, Steve - it's now mostly driven by marketing ideals, and the main currency is our data, our eyeballs, and ultimately our wallets. I'm using it as my little black book of music-related contacts, and it works fabulously for sharing events, Basschat projects such as the We Need Strings and the Basschat Relay, for inviting people to gigs and our Bashes, sharing band pages and my Basschat-related blogs, etc.

That's true as well, Barrie. Thomann are still the best for someone like me, though - I like to buy brand new, I haven't got thousands to spend on high-end models, and I'm left-handed and would die of old age waiting for a bass, if I had to rely on manufacturers as opposed to big retailers like Thomann. And obviously the small items like pedals and accessories are a bargain when you buy them together with something that takes the total bill to over £100, as delivery is free. Now all I need is for Sterling to stop its slide in the exchange rate...

Sterling's exchange rate with the Euro has plummeted recently, and that makes everything for sale on Thomann look a lot more expensive.

Excellent service most of the time - quick, reliable, gear exactly as described, no tricks, etc. On the rare occasions when something goes wrong, give them a call rather than emailing, as the latter system seems less efficient than it would be in this country.

Heh, I know how you feel! If it helps, I always review photos and discard or crop those where somebody looks less than good... it happens to me all the time, and that's why you rarely see me in photos taken by surprise I haave amended the list on the previous page to add Timmo's gear.

So there will be three of us lefties at the bash (you, Throwoff and me)! A veritable lefty corner - fantastic Expect every millisecond of the bash to be painstakingly documented in photo and video format for posterity and my/BC's music blog!

Brilliant, thanks. FYI, I also have an NXT 5-string upright (lefty from birth, so to speak!) and that's fine, for those who like that sort of modern shape, feel and sound. With the "lefty surcharge" it came in at around a grand from Thomann a couple of years ago.
