1. Thanks for posting! That was a luvly read.
From what I've heard of them, The Zombies are a hit or miss live these days. Some stuff is marred by those ghastly synth sounds and terrible synth parts (who plays that stuff? - can't be Rod now can it?). Some other stuff happily is spot on or better than that, sometimes surpassing the originals imho. Colin's voice is still luverly, yes.

Brave or stupid who knows at my age.
I for one hope the answer is "brave", 'cause I started half a year ago, at 55.

cannot believe how well the bass fits into my addictive personality!

Ha! Great to read you are a normal and balanced, humanoid person!

I will seek some lessons shortly from my son's guitar teacher.

OK, then be a good boy:
Buy a 6 string SuperExtraShortscale bass, and string it with the thinnnest stuff you can find in the shed. Play him some bass chords. He'll love you for it.

not yet confident (or good) enough to pick up a bass in a shop, plug in and give it a go without feeling an idiot!
You _know_ the answer to that!
1) You _are_ an idiot.
2) Enter the shop.
3) Say "Hi, I am an idiot, but an idiot with money. I wanna compare stuff here. When I'm done making noise, is there someone here who can demo them for me as well, so I get an even better impression? Did I say I have a lot of Her Royal Majesty's Sovereigns?"

See, you DID know!

3. Hoi Niels,

(I just told Niels who the really silly one on BC is, that's all. No reason to translate.)

4. Hi Daniel,

Welcome to BC! I trust you'll enjoy indeed.

Irvine, eh? Cool! I've been in Ayrshire a lot, always staying in Coylton, and seeing stuff.

Cheap bass? Thanks, but No thanks. Just send me a few bottles of The Arran single cask. That will do.

Enjoy!

In all fairness, I'm pretty terrible at bass.
Just in case: Being a total noob myself, I wasn't trying to tell you anything about your playing, but just got this image in my head of someone ruining his strings by using the axe as a bow. Then I just couldn't resist.

Posted earlier but wouldn't mind playing a few Primus, Tool or Mr Bungle tunes live! Don't know people with enough gear for Tool songs (I know I don't). And don't know people with the ability to play Primus or Mr Bungle tunes...gutted, they'd be fun to play to a crowd
+1 on all of them.
I'm flabbergasted Mr Bungle would even come up in this topic, but earlier today I played Disco Volante and was thinking about trying to play some of that stuff when I grow up.

7. No basses sold yet, happily, and I have NO plans whatsoever in that direction.

Before, I'd sell every single synth for need og money when I wanted a new synth, partly because of demands from the marked.

Now however, i buy everything cheap or used, and under normal circumstances I should be able to keep all of my basses, and I also suspect nobody demands that I invest in more modern basses than my Corvette and Bongo already are. Win win!

8. Hi Bideford,

Welcome to BC! I guess saying hello is just the first step of a long lasting relationship. Great site here.

Are you new to playing an instrument then.or just new to (bass) guitars? At any rate, you'll find loads of info here, and loads of stuff to discuss.
Some of what you wrote is easily recognisable to me: I played some clarinet because my daughter did, and some tuba because my son did. The instruments suddenly were readily available, one can say.

Anyway: enjoy!

Is it wrong I want.
Not wrong enough, at any rate, so I ordered it right away. Had promised myself just yesterday to buy a new one (my present one is near deceased), and now you post THIS. Thanks for doing so!

55 quid is a lot cheaper than what I'd have to pay in a shop here (prolly 120 to 150 quid) PLUS I get to proudly wear that logo.

Boy, it's a long time since I bought the original "Pictures of Matchstick Men" single. I must be almost dying.

10. Hey Gary,

Welcome to BC - the ideal site to pose questions and get more bewildered after the answers. :)
You DO remember that there are no stupid questions, right? There's only stupid people asking questions, dazzall. ;)

best,
