1. I'm fanatically and vehemently unsure and on the fence on this. With a vengeance.
FIrst of all, I did like it right away, but then I do like a slightly tacky cleanliness that makes a statement. Wouldn't use it in just any setting though, and would avoid the clothes of your avatar with this bass for example, unless it was just for fun.
After that, on studying the anodised gold, I felt that one was more restrained and more stylish.
Finally, I realised I like a bass that shows its functionality and is not just a novelty fashion form. So, if keeping the pearl pg, I'd have contrasting colours in knobs, thumb rest and pup covers. Not necessarily black, for sure, but how about anodised gold?

Yes! That and an anodised gold body!
(Don't thank me. Just glad to solve your problem.) :)

2. Ah! Long list of faves, many already mentioned. Additionally, I'm very weak for The Grand Wazoo, Ship Arriving Too Late, The Mothers of Prevention (US edition) and Jazz From Hell. Was The Yellow Shark mentioned? I think maybe it was.
As to live bands, the one with Mike Keneally smoked as well. I think this must have been late eighties or so.

3. Jay!

What's wrong with you, young whippersnapper?
Ashdown Evo III? That's my GAS too!
Barefaced? That's my GAS too!
'62 P reissue? That's my GAS too!

One slight difference though:
In a month, you'll have your degree, and you'll soon easily be able to buy all three.
Me, I have no degree. When my pay cheque comes in, I take out £100 for food for the next month, pay all the bills that the rest of the money will allow, and then my account is empty for four and a half weeks again. Has been like this since october or so.

You got inspired?

4. Lovely that Camel came up!
For me too, it's Moonmadness all the way, and Breathless to a somewhat lesser extent. I'd always thought everyone else loved other albums a lot better.
Personally, I could never like The Snow Goose (too wannabee imnsho). Bought it many times to try, and just sold it on again.

I'll go and listen to the bass parts now. Thanks for the tip on Doug Ferguson.

Thanks! :)

Bert: we have many words in common, for instance advocaat - advokat. Sure, it means "lawyer" in swedish but still...

:)

... you do know that it means 'lawyer' in Dutch as well, do you?
Hm, must get me a new bottle of that, even though that would mean I get only 4 strings on the 5-stringer of my GAS.

6. My guess is that pub congregations are not too different from the punters in church, so here goes:

As a former church organist and classical musician, my attitude was (almost?) that even my very best wasn't enough. During performances this attitude meant that I always hoped for that one listener who would "get it" more than the rest of the audience. I only needed one, but feel sure I sometimes reached nobody on that level.

However, having played in church services for decades, at one point I found out the punters were far happier with me when I played extremely easy stuff rather than Bach or romantic organ concerts. This led to a period of giving them what they liked. That automatically meant that I didn't stretch for the best possible performance (in my view), but just relaxed and gave them what they wanted.

7. "You play what I tell you to play! It's MY rehearsal room!"
Our drummer. We practised in the school he attended, a pre-college music school. The rest of the band were stellar musicians, myself being the weakest link despite formal music education.

"There's no use in this if you guys are just UNWILLING to play covers of THE SHADOWS exclusively..."
Guitard in our 6 piece band that set out to start with covers allsorts, and then develop our own music when we felt we were up to it.

"You artsy fartsy college musicians are just a bunch of losers. The real quality musicians are those like the ones that make the music for tv programmes."
My bandmate and best friend, one year after he had been denied a place at the college of music, despite his technical capabilities and his new £3,000 concert guitar (70s money).
Not that he necessarily was wrong. It's just kinda funny coming from a guy who failed at becoming one himself. These days he makes £150,000 a year in accounting, so... :)

8. Noobs _must_ own dozens and dozens. Only way to cover every style and only way to get used to, and good at, all kinds of necks, string profiles, string tensions, string distances and so on and so forth.

This is _not_ debatable, and there can be _no_ talk of any compromise.

Damn you people! Better halves are _reading_ this fer cryin' out loud!

:)

9. Hej Gustaf,

Pratabas.se är fryktansvärd grusom! Dom talar svenska där, och det är svårt at förstå för mig. Jag fattar bara inte at dom inte talar hollandska.

Välkommen! Hoppas du gillar denna här sajten.

edit for spelling and allsorts. BTW, I'm just saying the Swedish chat site is terrible (they talk Swedish there), and that I hope he'll like BC.
