  1. I recently got a Roqsolid one for my ABM600 with a free foamguard upgrade as a part of a promotion. Seems like a nice upgrade from the ampguard one I had on my Ampeg cab, which was also fine and held up to a lot of loading in/out over the years I had it.

  2. Again, I wouldn't say dull is like dark. Dull, to me, is a hofner with tape wound strings, tone rolled off. Dark is more like a P bass with rounds and the tone down a bit. There is a bit more harmonic content in a dark sound than a dull one.

So dull, in other words, which would appear more descriptive to me.

No, I wouldn't say dull. It's different to dull. Dull to me is negative, dark isn't necessarily a bad thing. One of the guitarists in my band has several SGs, a Les Paul and a Heritage H170. The SGs are a little scooped sounding, the Les Paul has a lot more mids. I would describe the Heritage as darker. It is almost more focused and has an extended bass response. It has a clarity that the others don't have by sacrificing a bit of the high end. I know that's skinny stringers, but hopefully that's helpful...

Pleased to see that the performance of my Ampeg SVT-7 PRO in Sunday's amp shootout appears to have generated at least one enquiry for the one listed FS on here. I've kept revisiting the ad and wondering why on earth it's still there! It was getting to the point where I was considering buying it myself as a back-up. I think these are superb amps.

If I didn't love my ABM 600 (don't know why we didn't get one of those on stage!), I'd have been looking for one. It was a lovely thing. So easy to dial a good tone on.

I know I spent a while on the old school Trace, but that was trying to get rid of a rattle from the speaker.

  5. I'll never understand why they must insist on "launching" products when it isn't available to buy. A Google search can't even find a teaser video for it. Same with the new Roasted series basses - there is a bit more about them online, but still not available to buy, just pre-order. Launch it when you have the product to sell! They're just killing any new product buzz they might get by constantly jumping the gun.

I'd read that that's unadvisable when using flats. Is it different for tapewounds?

I was mainly suggesting it to make the gold strings work. The JMJ Mustang comes with flats strung through the body. I haven't heard of anyone having issues with that...

  7. That looks like a gorgeous combination of woods! Fingers crossed the new bit of ebony arrives safely🤞

Could make it a string through body and then you should be ok with the regular scale gold strings...

No need to worry about length of posts. I find it can help to get thoughts out.

That's going to look superb. As good as the pics are, they don't do that fingerboard justice, the figuring is amazing. Following with keen interest, and looking forward to seeing the finished article at SWBB2024..!

Thanks! I'm really pleased with the fingerboard. I think it looks much better than the original one.

  9. I like to tinker...

On my Combustion, I've moved the neck pickup back to the middle position, sourced a new pickguard to hide that hole, and replaced the volume with a stacked volume and tone control.

My Mustang needed a paint job when I got it. Then, in lockdown I treated it to a stainless steel re-fret and a set of hipshot ultralights because the old machine heads were shot and there is t a direct replacement. Nowadays, I can leave it for a few days, pick it up and it's still in tune. It also got a @KiOgon loom a while ago as the volume pot died.

I didn't like the stock white guard that had aged unevenly on my candy apple red Revelation PJ, so I had a black one made. I was curious about the Fender high mass bridges, so one of those got fitted. Really nice, solid thing, with no side to side saddle movement. Oh, and I like flat top knobs, so I swapped those out too.
