I have never got that business of on the seventh day of the seventh month while Jupiter in line with the planet Mars there is born a golden child with the funk. Some people have a better aptitude then others for music then others. The first couple of years of playing I was crap, I loved punk and had no sense of rhythm, eventfully hard work and persistency paid off although I would never be a worlds great I can hold my own as a bass player and have played in many Pro bands covering Rock Jazz Disco Soul and funk as well as recording sessions. The people to ask are the teachers

Have you eliminated all the other possibilities? A doggie lead, channel of the desk, cross over, power amp, Pa speaker and microphone

I would consider myself as a musician I play a few instruments but bass Electric bass is the one I play to the highest standard. I understand dynamics and structure the lines that I play add something positive to the piece of music it often starts to grove rather than sound static I can be inventive and different when needed but truly understand that the role of the bass is supportive. I am a team player, part of an ensemble. How the bass sounds with the band both tone wise is music wise is more important to me. But most of all I am a musician because I know when not to play and leave. Space -
In our shop I get loads of kids trying out electronic kits and basses. Almost all of them play fast, especially the drummers. If you've tried to play a groove slower, you'll find it more difficult.
Why is it whenever you look on youtube at a trade show or bass gathering ever one is a slap monster.

If you really want to learn and listen to the music I am sure with a good teacher you will get it. The main problem understands that funk is about space and syncopation, not sounding like hailstones on a tin bath.

A lot of the players who don’t know the rules stay safely within the rules but without knowing and when most of think we are breaking the rules there is a rule for that. Hope that makes sense

Neo tone??? Now proved to be no such thing!
That makes two of you. He had absolutely no idea what he was talking about either. A knowledgeable sound man would know which frequencies were too much, and would simply pull them down in the mix.
Not always that simple EQ can only go so far with room correction. also the offending Frequencies where from the bass speaker not the PA. Amps sound different the further away you are from them. If the walls, stage or anything-resident frequency is n the lower mid starts vibrating sympathetically this could be the cause. Could be standing waves so the sound is louder in certain places but quieter in others. -
I was hoping that the new Yammy was going to be the best bass I own, as it sounded unreal at Bass Direct (and with the leds installed, cost not far off £3,000....). My plan was to buy another one as a spare and sell off a few from the collection, but I will need to find out if the bass is contributing to the sound issue before I burn any bridges. Bob
If you trust the sound guy and he gets good results and if he has a lot of experience then trust his judgement he may not know why but he probably can tell when something his wrong. Give the set up a chance over a few gigs because strange things an happen to the sound in some venues. -

Sometimes I think you have more chance of judging the volume of an amp by its colure then its wattage. There are so many factors involved Impedance How accurate the wattage really is. Amp Cab Impedance The ability of the speaker to turn watts in to power The cone excursion Surface area of speakers Acoustics, placement and coupling The player The tone Deep bass takes a lot of power and cone movement to produce. A clean or distorted, a deep mid scoop bass will take more power than a mid distorted bass tone. Low tuning takes more power. A player who finds his own musical space will cut through better than one who just doubles the guitar or keyboard. I am not a fan of over the top rigs, the amount of players with large rigs who get the tit on because the FOH engineer have to tell them to turn down.

have you triad the side using the amp as a side fill., less spill of stage when using a PA
I suppose I could take it off your hands. I have a spare fretted neck knocking around from my Iceni fretless bass. Maybe it would fit? What sort of money would you be looking for on this? Also, are all of the electrics still on board? I'm only about an hour away from you, so I could always drop in for a look. As for your output woes, there should be a plastic screw on the preamp board. If not, try moving the pickups closer to the strings. Rob recommends 4mm on the bridge pickup and 6mm on the neck pickup.
I don’t want to sell it just yet but thanks for the offer; you will be the firsts to know if I change my mind. The electronics work fine but I have no idea of its worth. This was a great bass with a distinctive sound completely different from the Empath.
An accident with the neck? Ouch. Go on, tell us what happened - we're dying to know... M
It was my own fault really. There was a slight Bow in the neck so although the action was not bad I always felt it was stiff on the fingers, I like a clean bass with no rattles. When I adjusted the neck it always slipped back to its original state. So I had a brain wave and decided to change the truss rod nut. To cut a long story short the finger board rose when trying to get the nut off. Unfortunately now a slice has completely broken off after it fell over.

It has a 3 way switch, cut, bypass, and boost on the down position. I looked at the new preamps on the Status web site and they have surface mounted pots, this one has separated wired ones. I can’t find an internal volume screw. Anyone knows what to do with a status energy body? I had an accident with the neck

Just got myself a Empathy £600 from fley bay the action was so low I had to change it The output seem a little on the quiet side and the knobs seem in the wrong order from neck PU balance, volume T MB also the bass seem a little subtle but not used through a rig yet Great bass though

For a lot of bands good backing vocals are a great advantage. -
Soft Skills - Key to Success as a Musician?

What I bring to the table is a good solid hardworking person, honest reliable and easy going. Lots of experience with PA’s Sequencing skills Recording equipment and skills The ability to learn songs accurately. Happy to shine or stay in the background both visually and musically. Can be the musical director, just a bass player or do as I am asked. Not afraid to fight my/our corner but also can keep my gob shut when needed. Can lead but happy to follow, wise enough to know not to back stab and bitch. In simple terms, I turn up on time do the job that is asked with the minimum of fuss and leave on good terms. -
It would be silly to say anyone who plays guitar can’t play bass, but some guitarist believe they can play bass without practicing and study. Bach composed some great bass lines and he was just an organist.
-
On a who plays what hands up at uni most of the guitar players put their hands up for bass also.

A lot of the high quality amps use high quality speaker’s, well designed cabs, top quality components which must play a part to the physical sound but probably makes no difference with a DI or when kept in the digital domain. Some people enjoy owning nice gear while some see it as tools to do a job
