3.
Tasty! Is this the one they've posted a couple of build pics of on Twitter/FB? http://www.facebook....id=325141415745
Yes hubrad, mine is one of a pair they are building at the moment (god, 'one of a pair', I sound like Arthur Negus!)
 4. Having problems wwith the Image Uploader. Hope this works, A neck, glued up. The build starts! Neck cleaned up.
 5. After buying my first Overwater, an '07 Perception 5, fifteen months ago, I recently decided to take the plunge and have a bass made, just for me! Woop! Another factor that contributed to this decision was my visit to the Overwater London Bass Day in October 12. The guys (and girls) at Overwater, have become my good friends since my '07 arrived, and their support and service, even though I bought that bass privately, is quite exceptional. A fantastic company, an invaluable resource, and great coffee too! Brief spec of the new build is as follows: 5 string, low B, Overwater Perception 34" Scale, Thru-neck design. Walnut body wings with one-piece Ziricote topwood (very dark and exotic, and expensive!) Wenge/Walnut 5-piece neck, with Ziricote head Veneer (I will stare at the Wenge for days!) Gotoh Lightweight (Aluminium) Tuners Hipshot individual Bridge pieces, with through-body stringing Overwater Scott Devine electronics Overwater Single Coil pickups Ziricote ramp Overwater Flatwound strings I placed my order, after mucho guidance and advice from the OW guys, in November, and my good friend Martin Lee is doing the build. Woodwork is largely complete now and indeed it is a thing of beauty. Lots of pics to follow! RK
 6.
Bass only for me. I can't and don't want to play guitar.
Me too. Picked up a bass at school, and the seed was sown. Never had any interest in guitar.

 23. In my view, a reasonable amount of theoretical knowledge can only help towards better overall playing. I've owned a bass for some years now, and was quite happy to be self-taught and play from tabs to tell me where my digits should be. As part of an upgrade to a far better instrument, my partner coughed up for some lessons for me. What a revelation these lessons have been. From a small number of visits, covering scales and their practical use, my understanding and enjoyment of the instrument has increased enormously. This is certainly due to a good teacher (thanks Martin!). The most surprising thing for me is that the lessons and theory have allowed me to play by ear more effectively, which in this case is one of the requirements of the OP? There are few, if any, things in this life that don't rely on a fair balance of skill, talent and theoretical knowledge. Has anyone learned to drive without lessons and theory? BTW, I'm ok with 4ths and 5ths, my car has six gears. Thank you please RK
 24.
Scott Devine wears gloves lik these as well but his reason is because he has some sort of neural problem (I think) and the gloves help him to overcome this.
I was going to reference Scott Devine. There is an explanation of 'the glove' on his website. I've never played in gloves, but I tried a woolly scarf once. I found it actually kept my neck really warm. Oh yes, it did. And my mum thought it was sensible.
 25.
As an ex-journo, please tell me that when you wrote "Fender's" for the plural of Fender, it was a mistake by your fingers, and that it won't appear in your articles that way! I find that poor writing ends up detracting from what's actually being written about. I gave up reading one magazine because I realised that all I'd done was proof-read the mag (I gave up counting after the first couple of dozen mistakes) and hadn't actually taken anything in. Maybe it's me, but writers of all types should take pride in their writing, not just their knowledge of the subject matter.
A fare point, woll made!
