7.
Well, I have the sweaty-est hands known to man and I go through strings like nobody's business! After a gig, the next day they are corroding and within a week the sound has gone. I've been recently using Elixer (Nano coated doofers) which are supposed to last for ages (£30 a set!) but they are lasting about 3 weeks before they deteriorate. Is this the norm or am I an alien? Any (useful!) suggestions would be great! Also if a string manufacturer would like to experiment on me - bring it on! Si.
buy two sets of strings when the first ones go dead, replace them (obviously ).... then soak the dead ones in methylated spirits for 24 hrs, allow to dry and should sound as good as new, as the meths takes out all the oil that has accumulated in your string from your sweaty hands then repeat process when they go dead....and so on and so on
8. cant stand his sound myself a bass should sound like a bass, lemmy`s sound just sounds like he wants to be a guitarist who just got lumbered into playing bass, IMO! that said...he has made a bob or two out of it.
9.
i think colour wise it depends on the pickguard, unless its a rosewood fretboard, black would just look stupid on rosewood, you wouldn't be able to see it. but on a maple board if you've got a white or pearl pickguard, then pearl blocks look good. anything else you HAVE to have black IMO. i especially hate pearl blocks with a black pickguard, it just doesn't seem to match!!!
yeah, looks crap dont it
10. now playing a SX `75 JAZZ bass fitted with WIZARD 84`s sounds phat!!
11. men in black ....will smith
12.
I'm not too keen on using pickups as thumb rests - it tends to distract me into just playing in one position, rather than moving my right hand to wherever sounds best. Tend to use the next string down as a rest unless I'm playing the lowest one, in which case I'll just drop the thumb somewhere nearby on the scratchplate and anchor off that.
me too
13.
care to share with us how it was sorted ?
NO!! only joking re-soldered white cable to centre tag. basically there were two bits of solder on my bridge pot, one dead centre and a smaller one on the edge of the pot. originally i soldered black cable to centre solder and white to tag, then switched them over when i realised they didnt work properly was about to ring andy at wizard when i thought i would just try one more thing so i re-soldered white to tag and black to solder on edge and BINGO, it works
14. sorted it out now well happy sounds the DOGS BOLLOX quality pups them wizards
15. found these two diagrams on the net..... http://www.axesrus.com/images/BASS1.jpg http://www.sonfatherguitars.com/Schematics/Jazz%20Bass.GIF which one do i use though????
16. thanks to all of you for taking time to give advice. gonna call andy at wizard as he seems a nice bloke. gotta a feeling i will probably end up buying the bridge pup as well, as i suppose they are designed to work together so it makes sense.
17. only swapped wires from the new pickup bnt
18. swapped wires around still the same not happy
19. will give that a go. cheers for that mate.
20.
You need to reverse the two wires from one of the pickups, if both pickups together produce a really thin sound (unlike the typical slight vol drop you get with a Jazz bass ) then they are out of phase with each other.
how please diagram would be fantastic if you could
21. just popped a wizard 84 neck pickup into my SX jazz as the one supplied was weak as hell, yet the bridge pup was fine. am very pleased with the pup, lovely boomy sound, yet when both pups turned on full my bass sounds very weak. front only is fine, back only is fine just not both on full? another thing is that the pup originally supplied had one RED wire running from pup to pots yet the wizard has two wires running from pup to pots, one BLACK and one WHITE. using a diagram from the internet i wired the black to the centre of the pot and the white to the middle of the three little bits that protrude from the pot. any help much appreciated
22. i bought this a month ago bass....$160 (£80) £40 postage £34 vat = total £154 and worth every penny haven`t played my other bass since

"good times"
