Old thread revival, So I'm thinking to go view a Vintage V96 Pro-shop? Do people think that a Pro-shop Vintage is worth it? As the cost goes from being £300 to £800+. The Pro-shop V96 has a Wilkinson WJM pickup, Graphtech Black Tusq precision cut nut. The Pro-shop comes with pro set up aswell which includes :- Fret-level, crown and polish. Fingerboard dress and comfort treatment. Truss rod adjustment and set. Action height, radius, intonation and pickup height adjustment. Nut slot regulation. Or do you think for around £800 I'm better to look else where?

Why do bassists seem to be so obsessed with sustain?
Triumph_Rock replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Interesting topic, as someone relatively new to learning bass, I have read and watch video's where sustain is mentioned, it does seem to get a lot of attention from players right from amateur through to pro. David Ellefson for example with his signature basses, states that he has a Jackson high mass bridge fitted to add more sustain. -

Epihone Advice: Embassy or Thundebird

Have you considered the Jackson Kelly Bird ( Thunderbird ) ? https://m.thomann.de/gb/jackson_js3_q_kelly_bird_trb.htm Just to throw a spanner in the works? -
Yes that's what I thought. I'm actually thinking of doing a few tweaks to this bass. Might fit Grover vintage bass machines 142 series heads. Reason for that the copies on it on the E string, some times it can be hard to fine tune.

Nothing particularly, just wanted to try a different set of strings, I bought this bass secondhand, and it has been for sale for over a year I think. So I thought it might do well to try a set of fresh strings.

So my bass guitar is a Westfield EB3, which has a 34" scale length. I thought it might be good to invest in some better strings that came with the guitar. So I've ordered some Sit DE45105L 45-105 Dave Ellefson Bass Signature Set Guitar String. The gauges are 045 - 065 - 085 - 105. Will these gauges compare well to the standard bass strings that came on my Westfield? Or will it be a case of having to get a new nut fitted suited to these strings?

Anybody else seen the new range of Sterling SUB Ray4 Bass Guitars? Which have been released this year. I'm pretty interested in these. Now includes a neck humbucker pick-up, and 5 way toggle switch! I kind of see this kind of as a reincarnation of the Gibson EB-3L. What does strike me as being a bit weird, is the lack of a volume or tone knob for the neck humbucker? If anybody gets the chance to play one, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts!? Link https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Sterling-SUB-Ray4-Bass-HH-MN-Olive/35OL

The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash - Now Sunday 19th September 2021

That's good to know Mike, I have a Westfield EB3. Love the tone, got used to the neck five. I'm thinking when I get a more expensive bass, I'd probably get the Gibson. The only concern I have is the short scale. If they made an SG with a 34" scale I'd be all over it. -

Not sure anybody will want to hear a beginner play, that is slow, suffers with the odd fret buzz, and sometimes struggles to mute strings that ring in harmony with the plucked note on another string. 😉 -

Well gives me more time to learn in prep for meeting everyone. At the moment I've just learned a 12 bar blues lick. I'm struggling to mute strings I'm not playing. So practice practice practice. I doubt my kit will change. But I did have a look online at the Gibson SG Bass reissue. -

Well today, I have subscribed to Jam Play. Started lessons with David Ellefson. Basic is about the parts of a guitar, tuning the guitar, how to set the position of the guitar up sitting down or standing up, so that wrists are straight as possible. Then in the lesson after that he gave a basic introduction to the fret board. The lesson I am on now, he's given two exercises to learn and improve left hand coordination and dexterity. As well as plucking the instrument properly with the first two fingers and timing it properly with the left hand. Although I prefer pick. Good camera angles and can turn the tempo down. Supported by notation and tablature, and even has an interactive feature for the two exercises. So you can play along and learn to play in time. Looks great to me. 🤘
