  1. Yes I was spit balling though. PEEK seems to be the preference.
  2. I recall suggesting one. Quite useful for covers bands.
  3. I have, there is mention of PEEK fingerboards in the specification. 😊 I've tagged you so you can find it easily.
  4. My apologies for the lack of information, I'm currently putting together some drawings in CAD Yes the necks come ready to fit, they will include a nut, double action truss rod (headstock end) frets and the frets will be levelled. I can't get hold of Earvana compensated TUSQ nuts for bass unfortunately and they would be a £60 upcharge if I could. Standard TUSQ is available though and I use them exclusively on my own instruments. I have reached out to luthier contacts here to see if anyone has a 3d model of one. It's technically possible to mill one ourselves but there may be a learning curve involved with tolerances. If milling one is possible, I will add it to the list of options but I can't say when that will be. Tuner holes for the shafts to go through are predrilled (probably 12mm but subject to confirmation) but the screw holes are not because different folks have different requirements for tuners. Neck bolt holes are not pre-drilled but inserts and M4x40mm neck bolts are supplied. The headstock will be the standard shape and tuner layout will be standard as well (3+1). Luminay dots are possible. I will add them to the list of options.
  5. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to allow for those and customers would end up paying them regardless, even if I had sufficient volume in sales to justify UK based warehousing. Another option would be to bring a stock of necks over personally as checked baggage but the quantities would be limited and I could only do it during a public holiday here in China (Late January, August and, at a pinch, first week in October). Update: Shipping... I've spent the last day reaching out to various shipping companies. My regular guy quoted me 2000RMB (over 200 quid) to express UPS ship to the UK in 4-6 days. I said 'no'. Another company has offered 390RMB for the same delivery based on some BS volumetric/weight calculation. However, it made me wonder if I could combine two necks in a single shipment but then the reciever would have to make sure one neck got to it's respective owner. If two BCers are open to collaborating it could slash the shipping charges in half.
  6. Would you like to put a deposit down and get assigned an order slot in the first batch?
  7. "I'm sorry my little loves..." Classic 5: 186mm Steinberger 5: 225mm Do you agree that the SUB5 and Classic 5 necks might not be interchangable? I've updated the spec to mention fingerboard options and some measurements
  8. I've just spent nearly an hour searching for a very specific  three way toggle switch online.  Cheapest ebay sellers in the US were asking 7 quid.  UK sellers online were asking twenty quid.  I found a seller here in China offering them for 40p each.  I'm speechless.

Is that the mini toggle on-on-on to do parallel/series/single-coil pickup switching on MM pickups? If it is, not quite as cheap as you but I got five for £7 off Ebay UK - switch_elec is the seller.

@Woodinblack Fair enough sir. No worries.

@Woodinblack same switch in every case, made by same company in Taiwan.

@tauzero Yes although I'm using three of them on a guitar for parallel/series/phase.  How did you guess...?

  9. OK, do you have neck pocket length? My Classic 5 is: Nut width: 44.1mm Neck depth at nut: 20.5mm 12th fret width: 60.9mm Neck depth at 12th fret: 23.8mm Heel thickness: 28.3mm Width at 21st fret: 69mm <- this might be incompatible with your SUB5 neck if it has a 22 fret neck heel. Neck pocket length: 72.5mm FWIW the Steinberger 5 string neck for comparison is: Nut width: 44.1mm Neck depth at nut: 19.3mm 12th fret width: 60.4mm Neck depth at 12th fret: 22mm Heel thickness: 26.6mm Width at 24th fret: 69.1mm Neck pocket length: 77.5mm (estimated)
  10. Yes. To get a firm price, I'll need to weigh the package and enter the measurements. I don't have that information to hand because I don't have the necks yet. I will supply an educated guess based on some assumptions about the weight of the neck but it will be subject to confirmation. Initial enquiries for UPS/DHL express shipping (3-5 days) are eyewatering and I've asked if there are cheaper 'priority' options. I don't know what the shipping companies are smoking but I will look into insured rail and sea as well but the shipping times will be significantly longer. Options for every neck are fingerboard focussed. Options beyond that, e.g. nut widths, number of strings etc. are going to be subject to MoQ, or the custom route is an option.
  11. Can you provide SUB neck measurements? Nut width and depth, width and depth at 12th fret and at the heel plus heel length? I suspect there might be differences to discourage neck swapping between models but I can compare your measurements (if you have them) to my bass and we can both take a view.
  12. OK I've posted threads for SR4 narrow nut and SR5 necks (could be narrow or orginal)
  13. Modelled on the Classic 5 neck on my own bass. Can do either a slimmer version (borrowing from a very comfortable Steinberger 5 string neck) or original flavour depending on interest. But @Woodinblack and @crazycloud indicated interest. I'll take up an order slot myself if four deposits are recieved. Dimensions (Classic 5 spec unless stated otherwise): Nut width: 44.1mm Neck depth at nut: 20.5mm (Steinberger profile: 19.3mm) 12th fret width: 60.9mm (Steinberger profile: 60.4mm) Neck depth at 12th fret: 23.8mm (Steinberger profile: 22mm) Heel thickness: 28.3mm Width at 21st fret: 69mm Neck pocket length: 72.5mm Fingerboard radius 11" (EB spec) Tuner holes (for open back tuners): 17.46mm (11/16") bushing-hole diameter (TBC) 14.28mm (9/16") post-hole diameter (TBC) Necks come with: PEEK fingerboard with either MOP or luminay side dots. Fretted, lined or unlined fretless are no charge for the first five orders. Fingerboard inlays: MOP dots, blocks are a 30 upcharge. TUSQ nuts installed but not slotted (slotting requires a string gauge to be assumed) 21 stainless steel frets (levelled to a straight neck) Double action truss rods (headstock adjustment) M4x40 neck bolts and inserts will be supplied. (NB the necks don't come pre-drilled because neck bolt locations vary from bass to bass, the inserts must be used) Tuner holes are drilled ( TBC) but screw holes for tuners are not (again, because different tuner designs have different hole locations)
  14. Great, narrow or original nut width? This is very much my aspiration, having owned four of them. I'm not sure how much of the Cutlass sound was due to the less rigid neck though. I guess we shall see, I'm definitely planning on getting an SR5 neck made for my Classic 5 and then it'll be the closest thing to a 5 string Cutlass out there, with the vintage eq.
  15. @Raslee and @RaNoFuNkY mentioned they would be interested in a narrow SR4 neck with a 38mm nut (and there are some wooden necked versions out there in the wild.) As I've mentioned in the other threads, I can only work in batches of 5 right now to keep the price reasonable. So if you would be interested in a narrow SR4 neck, let me know below. Scale Length: 34" Neck Profile Shape: C Frets: 21 Jumbo frets Material: Graphite composite (monocoque construction) Finish: Matt polyurethane Frets: Stainless steel (levelled and crowned) - lined and unlined fretless is available FOC for the first five orders. After this it will be a £30 upcharge Fretboard Radius: 7.25" (preEB spec) Fingerboard: PEEK (high performance, durable composite matrix), 9.5" radius Inlays: Dots, mother of pearl or luminay, MOP blocks available for a £30 upcharge Nut: Graphtec TUSQ 38mm wide Heel Width: 63.5mm (2.5") Heel Shape: Rounded Tuning Peg Holes: 17.46mm (11/16") bushing-hole diameter (TBC) 14.28mm (9/16") post-hole diameter (TBC) Truss Rod : Dual action, headstock adjustment Neck Thickness: 19.4mm at first fret 23mm at twelfth fret Order slots: 1) Raslee 2) 3) 4) 5)
  16. The only way I can deliver a 38mm nut on an SR4 neck at the moment is if the whole batch is the same. So others would need to indicate some interest up to a MoQ of 5. Let me set up a separate thread and you can add your name here. Production capacity is ten necks per month as we are a tiny operation.
  17. Yes, and the amount of demand for each isn't clear either. I'm very keen on being demand led initially because quite a bit of time and resources get committed to the development of each new neck.
  18. These will fit a Steinberger XQ5/Q5 with about 0.2mm sanded off the neck heel width. I've updated the number. I'm expecting the distance from the 12th fret to the end of the heel to be 224mm but I'll confirm once the necks are ready to be inspected.
  19. Yes, a 38mm nut is possible...(I thought the stingray was already around 40mm?) The construction process involves carving a wooden form first and that can be adjusted in CAD/CAM software before milling begins. But for batch every order slot has to have the same specification because the batch is based per mold and the main way I keep the price down is using a MoQ. Otherwise it's a custom order with a custom mold.
  20. There's been some interest expressed in MM Stingray necks so I thought I would just provide a single location where questions can be asked rather than trying to stay on top of multiple threads. I have preEB neck and SR5 Classic necks that could potentially be used for molds. One thing I've noticed is that the SR5 neck is pretty chunky, even compared to my Spector. I could look at a narrower nut and slightly slimmer depth, more like the Steinberger necks already made. Any thoughts or reactions to this idea? Personally I would also go for an ebony fingerboard just because I know it's pretty neutral tonally but I'm also curious about padauk because the tap tone is pretty amazing. Some kind of rosewood/pau ferro variant might soften fret noise a little further than ebony (assuming there are no issues with CITES).
