There was a Kay case in the vintage music shop in Bath. I don't think it was for sale but the figure £350 is popping into my head for some reason.
It was pink with yellow stripes (I think) though.
I don't think the CT bass is supposed to be elegant.
Its fat and bulbous shape is what I like about it. And I don't think it would look right in a single colour. I love its blank expression and slanted mouth as well
Both 'weird' and 'wonderful' in my opinion.
Great thread.

I removed the information after the item number to make the link active.
I respect a lot of the comments but I think if you're going to take on a new instrument you have to get the foundation right. L-mac knows this and that's why it's such a difficult decision.
As I mentioned; I think if he started learning the notes on the fingerboard and then thumb-picking along to some simple notation whilst ensuring the one finger per fret rule is enforced - what harm could come? Perhaps you could ask his teacher what piano theory he has learned will smoothly transfer to bass (if that's kosher).
If he sticks at and continually shows interest and progress, you'll both be able to make a more informed decision.
Precision necks are too thick and the jazz neck I have now is too thin to be honest. But far more bearable than the P.
I can't understand why people like the kind of neck where it isn't a half-circle. They're really uncomfortable for me.
I think necks are tricky because they can take time to adapt to. I don't understand how the traditional Fender suit the majority, to be honest. I think it's a case of playing and finding something you like. Perhaps once you find something BCers can give ideas for basses with similar necks.
What pickups are you after? I couldn't tell if you were an exclusive precision tone junkie or not.

GAS is always waiting for you to turn around so it can smash you out.
Was having a giblet at this last night. I'm going to return to it frequently and see if my percentage improves.

I hate this. I need some reassurance that everyone isn't just money hungry.
And where are you ZPQ, I need to know you weren't the original seller:

Yeah, in a good way. There's something about atmospheric music, especially vocals, where it seemingly comes at you from all directions and then permeates your mind. It's captivating and greatly allows for mind displacement. Very few pop/rock/prog' bands have successfully done this.

...This should lay rest to a great deal of the controversy and is great listening. They isolate tracks from the original multitrack masters and it has James Jamerson's and the rest of the Funk Brothers signatures all over it. All that having been said this certainly does not mean that Kaye is abandoning her "CLAIMS". She claims she is writing a book on the subject. I do believe that history will treat her harshly for trying to abscond with the credits of one of the first electric bass virtuoso and a true innovator that has touched the lives of most bassplayers that follow in his footsteps. Thank you for your input, Mr. Lee! I feel honored to have such a Jamerson devotee post on the thread.
And thank you for Bassland; which was an explosion of knowledge for me of what was previously just a beautiful tone and revolutionary style. Your website allowed me to meet the man and experience the time. All your own media is excellent too, I can hear the JJ influence but you make it your own with an amalgamation of other styles and experiences.
Hope to see you putting your two cents elsewhere on forum every now and then too
paul.
