  1. Hi I have owned a USA stingray, a handful of USA SUB basses and a couple of ray34's. Ok, yeah I should have stuck with the USA stingray, but I actually quite like the ray34 for price. Thing is I have just bought a ray 34, brand new and its a bit nasal and lacking the low end heft I would normally expect, initially have changed over to 110/50 set strings and that has helped a bit. Any one else decided to replace the pre amp or the pickup? What were your experiences (good and bad)..
  2. interesting, I had an issue with the Elwood (turned out to be a broken jack socket). Whilst in the hunt for the issue (dead pre amp switching and distortion) I asked what the model of the Delano pre-amp. They offered to replace it f.o.c if it was needed. In the end it turned out to be a broken jack socket...something I have had go on other makes (including high end basses) so I can't take a pop at them for that. I thought offering to replace the pre-amp was a good gesture in keeping with the price tag of the bass... Hope they get their act back together because skimming the above posts they look like they need to get a grip.
  3. Ahhh geddit now. TBH I bought the elwood 'almost' on a whim, primarily becuase its chambered and hence light. 38 years of playing have limited my neck and back to basses less than 10lb if poss. Tonally excellent and nothing has fallen off. The whole expanding through success model is a tricky one, Sire for example are in the same boat (other guitar makes available..) With substandard tuners creeping in after the first flush of success. Who knew that the bean counters dont actually know how to build guitars.
  4. Erm, somewhat bemused by (and new to...) the thread. Seems to be a 'bits I don't like about.." thread rather than a owners thread. I have an Elwood 5 stringer I bought off of this very site and its a quality item. Or am I missing the point?
  5. lol. yeah me too. GAS is bad...bill paying is worse 'cos you don't get a bass at the end...
  6. ok god the last pic of the lego speaker...got me thinking of building a lego cover for my expensive cabs to look ultra crap like that...think is that much lego would probably cost more than the can itself
  7. Nice transaction, promptly paid, good comms, would trade again no issues.
  8. Its currently bolted to the other bits I have up for sale..doesn't have a f***der sticker on it . Frets polished and levelled, one fret extra..21 as opposed to 20
  9. Still here. May part this out if things don't develop..
  10. Looks like I may have to move this to the dark side on on-line sales....to the place that must not be named
  11. Tough market this summertime..check behind your sofa who knows a mid year pressie to yourself might get you over the World Cup hangover....
  12. Can swap a maple neck on for the rosewood averse players out there...even drop the price if I swap the pickups for the more budget minded folk. Talk to me...yeah I know you're broke from watching the glut of sporty things on the TV, but a bass isn't just for the summer...
  13. This is the most excellent active version. She has bite and sits well in the mix. If it wasn't for cash flow I'd be keeping her.
  14. Rochester, kent
  15. played this again last night, great tone and soooo light, great for those of you out there looking for a practice /backup bass and can't afford continuous visits to the osteopath!
  16. Loving the autocorrect... Kick donkey...lol should read a.s.s although kick donkey...maybe I should copyright
  17. I am based in the medway towns, work in Canary Wharf so can meet up there If that works
  18. NOW £375 a most excellent bass if I say so myself. Superb maple quilt cap red burst lacquer finish, active, black hardware..new this will relieve you fo about £600 to buy. Lovely rosewood neck, fast and comfortable. I have strung it with piano wound strings, action is astonishingly good. Plays really well. Herd thinning casualty. Pretty much unmarked. (needed a bit of a polish when I took the pics..sorry). Comes up slightly darker than in the pics, not by much tho. Sales speil from Spector: The Spector Bass Legend 5 Classic Bass, Black Cherry provides players with a powerful 5-string bass, iconic NS body-style, and a captivating figured maple top, creating a truly stunning aesthetic and extended tonal range. The maple body is coupled with a smooth playing maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, offering players a comfortable playing feel and beautifully bright tones. A set of custom SSD INC humbuckers are designed to bring out every nuance of your performance, built with ceramic magnets and steel pole pieces to produce warm characteristics with plenty of output. Finishing touches include Spector's TonePump preamp for excellent tone shaping, and their locking die-cast bridge to enhance string stability and sustain. I am in the medway towns, come visit, will post, or meet up in London, may even deliver for petrol money and safe transit...if not too far away of course
  19. DECIDED TO PULL THIS OFF SALE. THANKS FOR ANY INTEREST SHOWN Ok, here is my homebuilt p bass. The licensed neck has 'the logo'. I bought as is, didn't add it, its under the lacquer but its a pattern neck not an original. (original maker stamp on heel). No inference of being original. rosewood board, no skunk stripe , p bass width. (If this is an issue I have an unlabelled neck I can swap out similar quality) Very nice sunburst body, not 100% perfect but looks great. Gotoh bridge. nuff said. Dimarzio dp122 pickups which are imho the best p bass pickups all round, great tone and monstrously good output. CTS post and cloth wiring. Sounds awesome, good weight. questions, etc get back to me..
  20. Here we have a oiled and waxed paulownia bodied p bass I built out of parts. Hipshot kick donkey donkey, Maida Vale handbuilt pickups, CTS pots , cloth wiring, maple neck. I built it specifically to be easy on the shoulders, it weighs about 6lbs. Plays really well, sounds great (Maida Vale pickups are very good across the range). Everyone who has played it can't get over the weight vs tone. Only looking to recoup costs...so grab a bargain.
  21. NOW £600 Here is my Warwick corvette. About 10 years old according to the serial number, ash body, wenge fretboard. Wax finished, comes with folder, user manual, wax etc. Recently re-strung, bell brass frets in excellent condition and recently polished. Some signs of use but nothing that will make you scream and point in horror or keep you up at night. 9.5 out of 10 if I had to rate it. Plays great, has the step behind the truss rod so the truss rod won't blow out the back of the neck like the early ones. Cuts through mix, really useable pre-amp, with Bass and top on a concentric pot, sweep and volume. A gig monster. A real class act, lovely to play, but I have a Dingwall so its sits waiting to be loved.... Based in Medway towns, pick, post, or meet up with a reasonable distance (London is possible too I work in Canary Wharf area) Bank xfer or PayPal friends and family (i.e no costs..or if you want the full fat version you can pay the fees) I have a great track record of sales etc, always play with a straight bat etc. Questions answered, more pics available. WILL CONSIDER A USA SUB 5 string as parte-ex with some cash my way.. Comes with a hard flight case.
  22. Withdrawing.....
  23. bumping for the final time...then withdrawing from sale...
  24. tbh chaps i feel a little sorry for the seller. This is a high end stingray as is indicated by the neck wood, through strung classic bridge. If it has been modded by shuka its all the better for it and a lovely job. Surely some of the discussion could have been done by pm rather out on the marketplace? The serial number will of course indicate the original spec, but as long as its a real musicman..it is what he says. Its a lovely looking classic ray with (possibly) choice mods, whats not to like. glwts.
