It came to prominence in the baroque era and is ideal for accompanying song, small chamber ensembles and continuo playing. The six fretted strings are similar to those on a classical guitar but tuned A, D, G, B, re-entrant E and re-entrant A with a scale length bassists will be used to. The eight long bass strings are tuned in mixolydian mode down to G above our bottom E.[/size] [size=4]I bought the instrument from Rob McKillop and have enjoyed learning to play from scratch. But back and leg problems mean I find it uncomfortable to sit down and play for more than about ten minutes. And this is an instrument you cannot play standing up![/size] [size=4]There are cheap theorbos out there (Early Music Shop make one) but like anything else you get what you pay for. It [/size][size=4]usually costs around £6000 to have a[/size][size=4] professional instrument handmade.[/size] [size=4]Comes complete with Kingham case worth £500. They are all from 1980 and in perfect working condition, few dings on the bottom side and few scratches at the back for the fretted one. The two SB900 have been rewired with a Gibson style 3-position lever and a volume has been replaced by a varitone from BigDGuitars. The 900 FL also has new mini switches. They have all been looked after and they are ready to play as I used them pretty much every day of the week until two weeks ago.
