1. Bumping this bad boy back up to the top!
2. What's the difference between this and one of the pro ones then?
3. Just a kind few words about dangee...i bought my F Bass from him last year, he's a top notch guy to deal with. Out of interest mate...would you take an EUB in swops, or are you after a cash deal only?
4. I played one a few weeks back. Build wise, i didn't rate the feel much, it felt inferior to my old USA Jazz by a long shot, the woods just didn't feel great. As for the sound, it was big and phat, i loved it...but you'd get the same sound from putting the same electronics into a different bass!!! Just my thoughts...having said that, if i found one that felt good, i'd be very tempted to purchase it!
5.
I wouldn't take less than £ 500 notes for it Jaime bud. Shame to see it being sold bud, hope you get what you want from the Ashdown/Ampeg setup. Cheers, Robbie.
Thanks Robbie...i had something like that in mind! I think i just want to give tubes a go mate...we'll see what happens...you never know, i might end up taking a new TF750a off you, hehe!
6.
Ahh... I was quite interested in this last time it was up for sale. Although Id rather get a full acoustic for orchestral also.. Erm, will be in touch if hasn't sold in new year..!
Wicked
7.
What´s your selling price on this?
As i said in my initial post, i'm not sure about pricing. I'm willing to accept sensible offers, but at the moment i'm not sure what to ask for it. Feel free to pm me. J
8. Now back home...so big bump!
9. Still up for grabs guys n gals!
10.
Hi there, similarly reticent, i may be up for changing my Trace V8 (8 x KT88) all tube head almost unmarked.... is the Thunderfunk the latest incarnation as per their website? May not be of any interest as i'm looking for about £1200 for the V8... still if you don't ask.... As a second option there's also a V6, and in case you were interested in the V8 there's the matching 8x10..... Andy
Hi Andy, No, i'm afraid it's not the latest version of the TFunk, although it is the most recent in terms of power rating and features with the 'switch'... As regards your trade offer, i'm afraid that Trace aren't something i'm looking at at the moment....thank you for the offer though. Jam
11. As far as i'm aware, the SVT-3 Pro uses Mosfet technology in the Power amp stage! The Ashdown beast does sound wicked, but i've got a feeling that the Ampeg is going to suit me a bit better...not sure though! Largo - How do you find your amp in a gigging situation? Thanks Jamie
12. Thank you for that kind sir!!!
13. Hi all, I bought this from eubassix off here earlier this year, and since having it, it's had about 4hours of play...so i've decided to sell it. I don't too much about it really, but i've got all the details below, thanks to eubassix (also the pics, thanks mate). I've taken it up to Geoff, (think his username is geoffbassist) in Leeds, he plays upright and electric professionally up in those parts, he really digged the sound this thing produced and said that it felt quite authentic. A quick summary of the info below would be to say that it has 3 different pickup options, a piezo in the hollow chamber, a piezo in the bridge, and a magnetic at the end of the fingerboard (body end not headstock end). You have an on board eq system and pickup pan for the acoustic chamber piezo and magnetic pickup, and you then feed that signal from the jack, and the Bridge piezo signal, via jack, into the K&K Pre-amp that velcros onto the back...you can then mix the signals there before sending the final sound to the amp...suffice to say, it sounds wicked!!!! Here's a more detailed description: “Bassmaster” eub (electric-upright bass) hand-built by Alan Hatswell of Bassix. Bass is about 5-6 years old, ¾ size, and its construction and pickup system really sets it apart from most other eub’s. There's a magnetic pickup across the heel of the neck and a piezo located inside the acoustic chamber. These signals are able to be blended using the knob on the front. This is then routed via a 3-band EQ and a ‘pre-shape’ knob to the ¼ " jack at the rear. This combination provides for the acoustic 'air' and authentic / acoustic tone(s) that many eub’s lack. In addition, there's another piezo moulded into the bridge, which gives a lovely 'mwaah'. Either of these outputs give a great useable tone, but blended together produce sounds as close to a real upright bass as you're ever likely to get. This is able to be done using a small battery powered K&K preamp (Velcro connection to the back. The bridge mounted piezo jack connection also fixes by Velcro to the side of the bass). This requires short leads from the piezo and rear-socket, then an output jack/jack to your amp, but the sound quality is exceptional. Of course, it’s also possible to use a single output from either (depending upon your preferred/required tone) OR an independent lead from each if your amp has the facility OR a split jack+jack/jack (such as those used on the Chapman Stick) The instrument has a fair few scratches and chips (see photos) but these are all cosmetic, mainly due to the composite construction. The tuners are Schallers and work smoothly. It is currently fitted with Astrea strings (as recommended by ‘Bassix’) which work well and are probably the cheapest you’ll find at about £40/set. It comes with a fleecy zip-case, and with the end-pin retracted it'll easily fit into a small family car. The overall length (with end-pin retracted) is 69”, with a 42” scale. Max. width is 13” and depth 7”. The eub weighs 14½ lbs. (.. NOTES...) Astrea strings (as recommended by Alan). They're the cheapest you can get, but I imagine they're probably quite high tension. Use a couple of very short leads - it kept things nice and tidy. With regards to the action, and the pickups - they're as they were when Alan completed it. The tape behind the f/b is new, but it just replaced the tape that was there originally and was starting to look a little ragged. 1) The foam strip keeps/kept the wires in the acoustic chamber together, to stop them touching the Piezo mounted near the soundhole. 2) The front blend knob is activated - it's something which is more apparent playing at volume. If you (very gently!) tap the body near the soundhole, you'll hear quite a loud signal from the piezo. You can roll this back using the blend on the front. I always played with it wide open. 3) The 'blend' on the control module is, in fact, a pre-shape. My preference was to run the EQ almost flat and have the pre-shape turned all the way clockwise. That seemed to be the best match to my amp. The foam strip.. as far as I'm aware, there's nothing scientific about it (if you know what I mean) - it's only function is to hold the wires together to stop them rattling off the bady (which would be picked up by the piezo). I suspect a bit of tape would also do the trick. End-pin... yes - forgot to mention that - a spanner is required! Hope that all makes sense guys and girls!!! Some pics: As for pricing, i'm asking a fairly firm £420, it comes with a padded case, and it's certainly value for money at that! I'm not all that willing to post it as it's a fragile and rather large instrument as you can imagine, but i am willing to travel if needs be, i live in Grantham, Lincolnshire, i don't mind driving a reasonable distance as long as i ge my travel expenses covered. Lastly...i'm away tonight untill the 15th Dec, but i thought i'd get it up here for you all to see before i go...i'll try and get online whilst i'm away, but i'm not sure i'll have internet access, so please bear that in mind. Any questions, feel free to ask... Many thanks Jamie
14. Hi all, I thought it's about time i got round to giving some views on some of the gear i own. Starting with my old faithfull Spec: F Bass 'Studio' 5 Black Ceruse finish Solid swamp ash body 34.5" scale 3 piece maple neck Maple Fingerboard 20 Mandolin frets Black Headstock with 2 over 3 tuners Birdseye maple top to back of headstock Hipshot Bridge 19mm string spacing F Bass 3 band EQ (volume, volume with single coil/humbucker, tone with active/passive, bass, mid, treble - eq boost only) F Bass matching top Humbucker pickups with single coil function I've owned this bass since about June 2006, in which time i've got to know it quite well and put it's through it's paces. The bass was made in late 2003/early 2004. Quality: Quite simply phenominal build quality. George pays extreme attention to detail, from pick covers that match the ceruse finish grain, to rear routing plate covers that also match the grain, ebony knobs, the birdseye maply rear headstock facing...you name it, the bass has build quality stamped all over it. The construction is very solid too, i've never felt i'm putting it under too much stress or strain, never found it to be too flimsy...and never found a thing i don't like about it really. As for the quality of the electronics, these too are quite staggering, the pre-amp section offers a huge variety of tones, especially with the ability to go passive, on to run it single coil or humbuckers etc. And the pickups are spot on too...the electronics as a whole are faultless in my opinion. I love the tone control, and the whole vol/vol/tone thing, not having a master volume and blend doesn't bother me at all. Sound: This is where it gets interesting. The sound is quite simply, beautiful, it's so smooth and polite, a true gem in the studio. As some of you may know, i've considering selling this, but after a recent trip to the studio, the tech's have re-assured me that doing this would be criminal...and having the time to hear it through the studio set-up, i was just sat there playing away, listening to the sweetness of the notes as they sang through!!! I'd say the bass is probably the most versitile i've played. I can get the whole Jazz bass sound without and problems, i matched my old USA Jazz '99's sound exactly, but i can also get that full sound by having both pickups on full, or by using it in the humbucking mode. I tend to run it in single coil for that jazz bass honk, the tone rolled back so it's about 45% on, with the neck pickup on about 60%, the bridge on full. Total Jazz bass glory...then i have the treble on about 50%, the mid 85%, and bass about 65%. It's just a very polite and extremely butter smooth in every way. The low end, right down to the B, whilst being absolutely huge, is very tight, but smooth, so extremely usable, and the highs sing through with beautiful clarity, no harshness whatsoever, the mids are punchy and bit a bit of bite, but nothing like Ari's old Atelier Z. I can't say it pulls of the vintage jazz bass sound all that well, but i'm not bothered by that. I've used it as my main gigging bass since i got it too. It's served me well in my 4 piece soul/acid jazz/funk group, it really filled the pocket there, but i'm struggling with it in my 7 piece all out funk band, it doesn't cut through quite as much as i'd like. Whether it's my amp or what, i don't know...but i've steered towards using my fretless of late live. As for other gigs...Jazz gigs are a new experience with this beast, it sits so beautiful in the bass role, walking sounds smooth with both pickups on full, the tone rolled off...step up to do a solo and it just sings through, unbelievable! Slap tone - well, many say these are some of the best slappers about, i personnally quite like it for slapping, and whilst i'm not much of a slapper, i do agree it does a good job, nothing like Kiwi's Celindar update 4, but it holds it's own right...check out some of Alain Caron's slap on F files! F Bass interaction: George is a real pleasure to deal with in every way. I've had a few conversations via e-mail about the bass, and he's really nice to deal with...i went about getting a quite for a custom job once, he's a shrewd business man, but sticks to his guns and maintains the F Bass quality through his customer service! Niggles: I'm a bit upset that i'm not getting on with it in my 7 piece band at the moment, it's such an awesome instrument, it feels wrong leaving it at home to do a gig. I'm working with it to see what i can do though, so we'll see. Sometimes wish the spacing was narrower, but it is by no means hard to get around! It's not too light, you know you've got it on, but i'd rather this as you can feel the quality in every repsect! Could do with the action lower, guess that just a case of the good old tools out at fingers crossed Pro's: The small mandolin frets are a wicked touch, i love them. You can really pull off some cool fingerstyle funk licks, and some cool vibrator slides! It's a very forgiving bass in my opinion, but then again, i've got to know it quite well. When i first played it, i was far less experienced and didn't really know what i was doing, i've learnt to work well with it now though and you can really get some great stuff out of it. I can honestly say, whatever i've thrown at it, it's come back with not just a pleasing result, but as if to say 'is that all you got'. I've put it through it's passes in the studio, and i now know why the model is named 'studio' 5 because this things belongs in the studio. I prefer it in there as opposed to on stage, it's a but too polite for funk and r'n'b sometimes...it's not rude enough, doesn't have enough 'balls' as it were, but i respect that of it. Take it on a functions gig, jazz, soul, smaller acid jazz/funk gigs, and it shows why it's worth in excess of £1400...it's wicked! So, safe to say i love the bad boy...just wish it'd fit in my current funk band a little better, but i'm not going to dwell on that too much. I don't really think that there's too much else that can be said really. If any of you have any questions, or want to come and have a go on it, just leave a message on here, or send me a pm. Hope this has helped in some way or another. Thanks Jamie
15.
I'll throw in a leftball - how about a G&L SB-2 (with tone control added)?
Any links to see one please? EDIT: Just found them...hmm...they're ok, still not exactly my kinda thing, i think i'd rather stick to Fender for the moment, maybe if funds were there, a Lull PJ5, in fact, definately if funds were there, lol!!!
16. Wicked thread guys!!! Supported Diadre Cartwright's jazz trio a few years back...guess that's the only named artist!!! Managed to gig at the Jazz Cafe in Camden though, so that's a pretty wicked venue to have on the CV...also gigged at the Yardbird in Birmingham, and got bookings for the HiFi club in Leeds...so for funk/jazz venues...that's like the top 3 *barr Ronnie Scott's * Not exactly artists i know...hehe!!! Jam
17. This will most probably be up for sale guys! I'm away from tomorrow, Friday 7th, to Sat 15th, so any questions will be replied to upon my return Thanks Jamie
18.
Still think you should check out the pre-amp BDDI before you regret selling the TF.
The EBS one or the sansamp?
19. Well originally i was being a bit of a cheaky git...lol...but then realised that your P bass may well be what i'm after, lol!
20. Hi guys, I'm kind of maybe thinking about swapping my Thunderfunk out for something else. I've never been an ashdown fan, in fact i'd purposefully avoid the things, but i tried out a bass through an EVO-II RC 500 head, powering an Ampeg 6x10...and i was quite simply...well impressed, it had plenty of ummmpphhhh about it! Now, my question is what do you guys reckon to them? But also, how does there sound compare to the likes of Ampeg valve heads, like the SVT-3 pro etc.??? I'm predominatly playing funk and jazz, with function work mixed in there too...so how do you guys reckon they'll fair in that kind of setting? Thanks Jamie
21.
see my sig
Am i to take it that you've bought it then or that you're trying to sell me a Squier P5?
22. Hi...is this still available? Sent a pm anyhow.
