Anyone know the size of the allen key needed to adjust the bridge saddle height? This is with the new High Mass Vintage Bridge. I have a trade pending on this bass and I can't find the bloomin' thing to include with the trade. I put it somewhere "safe" last week. Too safe it would appear. I've tried a few and 1.5mm is too small, 2.0mm too big. 1/16" is too small, 5/64" too big Cheers, Ray
must be a rogue size...dont suppose the yanks deal in 1/128 but my guess its decimal like 0.070" ??? how many thousands in an inch... millions of the blighters
Another option might be to grab some Thomastik Jazz Flatwounds and play at the base of the neck. Have never needed any bridge mutes with these strings as they are very, very mellow sounding. I've set up my Streamer STD for a similar purpose. Note the added neck thumbrest.
i think these are the worlds best flats as for urb sound from and electric...its a long haul initially go for the quick decay and mid boost..to take out the mud and fullness i heard a pro bassist playing an urb through a laney combo...it sounded just like an urb...so electronics cant be held to do much...i dont think mainly your electric will sound more like a urb when doing pizzicato on the top strings with vol low and digging in for the output...rather than let an amp do the work

you have got to need that low B string to really justify the cost first the instrument then the extra string cost and the weight you can move people with a 4 just as well as a 5

How important is theory and reading to you??
mrcrow replied to JakeBrownBass's topic in General Discussion
if you are going to play others arrangements reading is essential and good reading skills are far more important than theory imho the arranger has the theory you have the instrument the score is the connection he scored it as he wants it you play it as he wants it...so you need to read not only notes but notations soon you get to finding the theory comes with time its a case of trees and woods wish my avatar would change -
aaah, but i guess it was acceptable in the 80's my mum and dad bought me some kind of rockschool book for bass, which i sort of looked at a bit. reckon it'd be a blast to see the shows again though.
konban-wa pookie

What's the difference between Fender MIJ and CIJ?
mrcrow replied to lapolpora's topic in Bass Guitars
i think the country where its made is most important and japan has been knocking out very good clones and factory endorsements for years -

i bought this around 2 1/2 years ago off ebay and was pleased with the pristine condition and have kept it and cared for it since serial number E50436 straight from ernie ball's customer service guy, Dan: "This lovely white StingRay 5 was built on 1/13/06. Shipped to Midtown Music, Decatur, Georgia." it comes with the standard case and the bass is fitted with straplocks i may consider a trade down market as i am not playing a lot and if i do will go back to a 4 string i am in southwest manchester eccles way if anyone wants to view and try otherwise an extra for postage i would have to charge and this would be at net cost insured £850 i hope is a fair price for this instrument plus the delivery more pics here click for flikr and run the slideshow additional shots added 16/02/2009...forgot to include these

What do you play if you're trying a bass in a music shop?
mrcrow replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
Nope. I'm more interested in how the bass feels, is it in tune, are the controls working, is the hardware OK and is the amp set flat. I used to be concerned about what the staff in the shop think about what I'm playing, but as the older I've got the less I've cared about that
yes ...me too and i usually try out a series of arpeggii right up the neck with jumps in octaves for me this tells me if the neck is friendly the rest is close inspection of paint and build -
They still are upper class basses Have a plunder through the options list & you're hitting £3k on some of them!
i think i have to agree with you on that... the mm iirc doesnt have many options and would seem to be better value..ie under 3K
