1. I've played (in roughly reverse chronological order - new to old):

Stingrays (4 & 5 string), Fender USA Jazz, G&L L2000, Fender USA Precision, Warwick Thumb Thru Neck 5, Rickenbacker 4001s, Tobias Growler 5 and a few oddities (70's Jap Jazz copy, Samick Active 5 String, Hohner PJ Fretless, Aria Legend PJ)

all of them in covers band/indie band/blues band/church scenarios, they've all sounded like me (at least at the time) and as time has passed 'me' has developed along with the set-list and my abilities...

  2.
I dont feel comfortable with all this.
If i brought a new cab and it didnt work (again) i would insist on a new one that did, or a refund. If the cab has to travel to London, sit in a workshop and then travel back who knows how long that will take and what damage it might receive (not at the Gallery of course).

I would expect at least a loaner cab while it was away.
I don't want to push too hard cos they did me a magnificent p/x price and I think I have to give them an opportunity to put it right before I request a refund/replacement but I do obviously really need a cab in the time between!

  3.
I know this is a bad situation but those cabs are so good they will be worth the wait. And later on, 2 will sound wonderful.
Thanks matey, I do love the sound and am really looking forward to hearing 2 together at some point!

Anyone wanna buy a Les Paul Studio common/garden electric guitar?

  4.
Both probably come from the same factory in china ;-)

I do understand though. When i had my UL212 i ended up having to plug most of the handle screw holes and replaced both drivers (it went from a series I to a series II), all within the first month or so of owning it. It was a brand new cab but just didn't feel like it after i had done that work.

Yeah, if Epifani are footing the bill im sure there will be no need to drive anywhere.
They probably do come from the same factory, Alex thinks he's actually sending the whole backplate rather than just a speakon connector tho...

I'm no gonna be driving anywhere matey, Alex will be arranging collection of my cab for the repairs (which he'll do as quickly as possible) and will then be sending it back to me...only bummer is there isn't a cab for me to use in the meantime!

  5.
Glad you got it sorted. I did tell you they look ok on the outside didnt I ;-).

So your going to be without your cab for a while eh? Thats not good and i would insist on a fully working replacement cab being sent out to you and the old one picked up at the same time, at no expense to yourself.

I dont think its the end of the world that one connector isnt working, its still working if you need it but i would be more hacked off if i didnt have it when i needed it.

Do they really need to send connectors all the way from the USA? Cant they be sourced locally today?
The one that works sounds great, it's a faulty part that I'd have expected them to check before sending it out of the factory and that's not great QA, they are trying to sort it out and Epifani's sending replacement parts out is their way of assuring the quality of the bits in their cabs I suppose...it might not be the most convenient way for me but it will still be all Epi rather than part Maplin...

  6.
Hate to be the one to always 'get on' at a retailer, but id expect it to be at no cost to you! So, if the cab needs to go back through no fault of your own (eg Epifani) then the store and Epifani should consider this and pick it up from you.

In addition, id more than likely be asking for a new cabinet...Im a picky so and so but I wouldnt want a repair (however minor) when its brand new! You might expect it if its 6 months + old or second hand, but not when its probably within the returns policy.

Im probably going totally over the top haha!
I agree, and the best way to keep me up and running would be for them to send me a new and identical but perfect cab and swap out the one I currently have before repairing it and selling it to someone else...

  7. Checked it over with a jack-jack last night and there's definately a faulty speakon.

Had very speedy email response from Nick Epifani, he's sending over some replacement speakon connectors to the Gallery who'll do the repair and Epifani will pick up the tab...

Just need to work out how to get it from Sheffield to London and back before my next practice...

  8.
You might find that the speaker socket on the amp is dual speakon and 1/4" jack. The jack plug can go in the middle of the speakon socket. If you're not sure, check the user manual.
They are dual speakon/jack sockets on the cab but not on my amp, my bass buddy is jack out though so I can use a jack-jack to check them both tonight

  9.
Paypal payment as a gift for items sold on here is a banned activity, if someone asks for it, point them in the right direction, and if you're dubious of why they're asking for it, alert a mod.
I didn't know that! How is it supposed to happen please? (for future reference)

  10.
Have you tried connecting the amp to the cab with a jack to jack cable? For test purposes an instrument cable will do. You should be able to uses both jacks as inputs.
good thought...the amp only has speakon out though, I'll try it with my bass buddy later as I can use a jack to jack then and it has a small power amp in it...

    thanks again!

  11.
Good luck, lets hope this gets sorted one way or the other.

Im pretty sure my 2 UL's would allow me to use either, i certainly dont recall ever having to use a certain socket on either cab.

    Maybe they changed the design.

My issues were well documented so ill just say both cabs looked great on the outside but on closer inspection the UL212 seemed to have been made by a child in a dark room.
The 112 i had farted too much, even at bedroom levels (i got that from the Gallery but Alex was great about taking it back and i ended up with a UL115, no issues with that ever)

They are great cabs though and i do lust after another UL115
Thanks D,

The UL112 series 2 I have sounds fab with my Shuttle 9.0 and the bottom end with a Stingray 5 scared the s**t out of the shop assistant compared to the Vanderkley 112-EXT I tried back to back with it, as I say Alex has checked the other Epi cabs in the shop and they seem the same as mine, he's wondering if they've changed the design too as they defo used to be both useable as IN's...

I am lusting after a second UL112 series 2 (assuming they can reassure me about this issue - otherwise it's going back and I'm getting barefaced)...

  12.
Are you sure your cables are good? Have you swapped them around?
It's one speakon to speakon cable that I've tried in both holes (as it were), nothing else changed in the set-up, the cable et al work spotlessly in one 'hole' and not even a faint hiss in the other 'hole'...

I am waiting on Epifani's pleasure for a response which will either confirm that all is ok or that I should have bought something else...

  13.
In that case I suggest that you contact Epifani directly. Have you tried the same with the jack inputs?

Alternatively is there a technically savvy BCer near you who could check it over with a multi-meter. I'd be happy to do it but I'm rather a long way away from Sheffield.
I have just emailed Epifani and copied Alex at the Gallery in too in case it's a dicky batch...(which seems a little odd!)

  14. I've done a couple of transactions on here and have had no problems so far...

    my checklist is...

plenty of photos and a good description of it incl details about cases/blemishes etc (you'll not get warranty from a private sale), sound clips if poss but not essential
plenty of good feedback in the feedback section for the seller (you'll be wanting to build up a good reputation for yourself on here too)
lots of good contact back and forth discussing the item and the sale via pm
home address and phone numbers exchanged via pm
a couple of good conversations by phone
payment via paypal if postal (or cash if in person) - paypal fees should be discussed (even cash gifts on paypal require fees but you can choose who pays the fee)
agree what day the posting will occur and ask for confirmation by text and get a tracking number
    follow on-line
    leave cracking feedback

packaging is the responsibility of the seller, I wouldn't insult their intelligence by asking how they'll be doing it
set-up is very mouch a personal thing, one man's low action may be another man's bow and arrow, suggest you learn how to do the basics yourself and also find a good place that can sort out any serious issues
most of the reassurance of the buy/don't buy is related to building a degree of relationship with the seller
feedback is as important to the guys and gals on here as it is on ebay
I also feel a bit like there's a bit of an honour code on here built on growing and maintaining trust

Hope that helps and you don't feel like I'm trying to teach you to suck eggs or anything...

  15. You are going to get a huge amount of Barefaced love on here, I'd love one but can't afford the dosh for a new one, I have had some long chats with Alex from Barefaced over the last few weeks and he's fab, really really knowledgeable! If you tell him what sounds you like to make and what your amp is he'll suggest the most appropriate cab from his range!

I've not seen a bad word said about them and I want one (one day!)

  16. I bought an epi ul112 yesterday and love the sound, that's why I bought it!

    But

When I connect the head to the right hand speakon it works fine but doing the same with the left hand speakon nothing comes out!

Is this supposed to happen? Is the left one for daisy chain only or is it somehow broken?

    Thanks!
