5.
I really love this bass and it's breaking my heart to do this but I don't have the cash to buy any suitable cabs for my Ampeg SVT 4-PRO. Plus I have a new lover - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhxITFate5Y
Damn..wow.. that was amazing!! :| Z xx
 6.
Chris Spedding who produced the first Sex Pistols demo thought they could play (minus Sid). He claims his demos were remixed to make it sound as if they couldn't play: Quote: Spedding explains, They are not the same mixes that I did. Dave Goodman, the other producer besides Chris Thomas, went in and re-did them and added a lot of echo to them and added stuff to them. So they'd been marketed as the Spedding tapes, but they are not really my mixes. The mixes I did sound better. I'm quite proud of the Sex Pistols demos, especially when compared to their other later recordings. On my demos you can hear everything quite clearly - the bass and drums are really audible plus you can actually hear what the rhythm and lead guitars are doing. Part of why they (McLaren and the Pistols) didn't like my demo was that because I like R&B, I highlighted their rhythm tracks with a big bass drum and bass aound, particularly because Matlock had some intensely played bass runs. They wanted a guitar soup. I think that whenever you've got an interesting rhythm section like that, a band sounds like they can actually play, and since that was the whole point of my demo - to prove they could play - that's what I pushed. When you have a guitar soup, which is what the demo they recorded later sounds like, you have to face the fact that someone's trying to cover up the fact that they can't play. And that's what McLaren wanted people to think that they couldn't play, that was just an idea, a way of making all this anarchy stuff happen. Steve jones was tight as a catholic girls chuff!
+1 I love the pistols, and if you listen to songs other than the obvious few, you realize that there musical abilities are WELL underrated! and saying that... i mean minus Sid. Z x
 8.
Lol. Yeah that ain't going to work - pretty easy to guess intervals when you know what notes you're playing. Try - http://www.musictheory.net/trainers/html/id90_en.html
quite enjoying trying that took me a little bit to get it, but now i can get about half, sometimes a little more, will save this link Z x
 9. Hello How long you been playing bass? Z x
 10.
I think her point was that all the best gear in the world won't inherently make you a good bassist. If you don't put in the effort and learn to really use it properly (as others have mentioned) -- then you might as well save your money.
thats exactly what i meant didn't see this post cheers. Z x
 11.
No one said anything about the instruments gathering dust. We play them - just not all that well.
I wasn't talking about any of the dedicated bassists on this forum. I was merely talking about the others out there that do that. and... I was talking about the people that buy them, then leave them. Zx
 12.
Well who is to say how well it should be played given its price? Didnt know we needed to make people sit an exam before they could spend a decent amount of cash on an instrument or they aren't worthy....
lol... if someone can afford to spend that much, n just watch it sit gathering dust, then well done to them ! Z x
 13. Me: but if your gunna spend £1000 on a bass, and not put time n effort into learning, then whats the point?
You love the sound, you love the instrument as much as a piece of art as a musical tool, lots of reasons.
all i meant by that is... whats the point of having an amazing bass sitting in the corner looking pretty, and it not being played? you do get them. Z
 14. I suppose some people are just lucky when it comes to being able to afford equipment. but it really isnt the equipment that makes you a great bassist, although having a bass, set up perfectly, that plays like butter, has gotta help. but if your gunna spend £1000 on a bass, and not put time n effort into learning, then whats the point? i guess some people just have money to throw around like that! Z x
 15. Welcome to basschat ha that is a pretty good claim to fame! Z x

Thats really an incredibly touching story Zoe, I'm not surprised it helped you and made you feel beeter about stuff. Wow, I'm really impressed! What a star bloke.
Yeah he really is an amazing guy, couldn't say that enough really Z xx

 19.
I don't think it's a Bass Collection - they don't have position markers on the fretboard. I reckon it's a Tune of some sort.
yeah the Tune basses do have the fret markers. Z x
 20.
Hey there Zoe, Have you ever heard the Spanish version of "Eat 'em & smile"? Dave Lee Roth recorded a version with all the lyrics sung in Spanish - a friend of mine has got it on Vinyl Billy really is a lovely guy, he couldn't be any more down to earth if he tried. I've got a copy of "Sink your teeth into that" that he signed "To Rhys from William"!
Hey Rhys haha now that would be interesting to hear! Z x

 22.
I've just read this thread, i cant believe how awesome this guy is. He probably spends hours every day just answering emails. This is not a behavior that should be taken for granted, this is giving without expecting anything in return. very extremely rare.
Well I do appreciate it a hell of a lot Hes helped me a lot, just giving me inspiration, hes defiantly part of getting myself back on track Z x
 23.
I have been a big fan of Billy for a long time. Having been to see his clinics for Ampeg and witnessed his awesome technique I find his whole take on playing bass truly inspiring. Being an old guy I have my moments when I feel jaded and think of packing it in but then remember Billy saying to me 'never give up on your dream'. That has seen me through and Im still hanging in there. Im going to get me a copy asap!
Its inspiration like that that people need sometimes Z x
