1. I haven't thought about using mine in a live situation (especially since the very stiff stock data cable causes ghost triggers when you move around), but I'm mainly using for song ideas at home or eventual studio track use. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IKNSkprZVvo&itct=CB8QpDAYAiITCM7uhY_vwMcCFcN_TgodPwcDjTIHcmVsYXRlZEiM6bqwuZDX4Wo%3D Like two small spots, the middle and the end, in the Hellborg video where he kicks on the midi and plays synth chords.
2. Ah yes, the MB4 Midi Bass....talk about unicorn! I have one too, a 4string...a glorious instrument, but wish mine were a 5er. Has anyone been able to use one in poly mode? I'm using mine with a Yamaha Motif sound generator (the rackmount brain model of the keyboard), and in poly mode it splits the instrument to two different sounds; like strings and drums. Not what I want, when I'm trying to get chorded strings or piano etc. I can accomplish the chorded intervals externally via pedals, but I'm trying to do this with just midibass and sound module. Finding info on these rare beasts have just been deadend roads.
3. My $50 dollar POS craigslist purchase. I wouldnt call it 'love', I just wanted a cheap practice bass I can leave at work or in the trunk of my car and not care about.
4.
Why is it not available to pickup now? It would be stating the obvious to note that it appears to be finished and in the case.
Negatory! That bass doesn't seem to have the string tree installed. It must take at least a week to install one.
5. As for rebuilding the original Schaller tuner ; yes its very simple to transfer the worm and string post shafts, the collar and the wing onto the original black logo body. All you need is one small flat head and a medium flat head screwdrivers, real simple! They only used those black logo ones for about two years and you can't find them anywhere, and would be special to retain them as much as possible.
6. Wow, old thread! Still good. But for Dr Dave, Wal does also make one with a little aerodynamic headtock.
7. Andro, I still need to got on with doing the M4S lite tuner ordering. My MkII 5 used to mainly sit unused, but now that I've joined a new band I'm using the 5 nearly everyday, and my 4's are sitting unused. I need to reduce some mass at the headstock for my upcoming loooooong gigs.
8. From what I gather, the Pro series can be difficult to date unless a particular owner is the original purchaser. But this bass having a date and Greg's name seems cut and dry, and the headstock having the later style 'two stripes' seems to be inline with the date written in the body. You always email Paul or Phil @ Wal and see if they can find in the book.
9. jensenmann, the 400 is still a little glassier in the top end...that old Fender-ish tube amp chacter. The mids are very similar and have the unmistakable Mesa mid-forward gritty sound. But the Strategy is capable of far more low end than my 400, and way more volume. Voice setting #1 is the closest to the original 400 sound.
10. My Mesa toobers! the trusty old 400 I've had forever, and now the Strategy. Both loaded with KT88's.
11. Not only that Kev, I just "had" to jump on it really quick because the store priced it like a MkI (for the US anyway) got @ $5200! That's 2 grand savings right off the bat! The original owner (or store) easily could have sold it at full factory retail.
12. I just recently picked up a new birdseye maple MkIII 4 string a few weeks ago. Built Jan/2015, found it already traded-in at a vintage guitar shop...their loss I say! It's spectacular! The only bummer is, I placed an order a couple months ago with Wal for a similar MkIII 4, so I may change the new build to a 5 string. So an upated family pic with the (Mk) 1 2 3 punch!
13. I'm using DR Marcus Miller stainless on my 5. They are the grittiest-zingiest B string I can find. I tried taper B's, but they didnt sound as bright, nor did the fat part of the string cover the rear row if pickup pole.
14. I had to service some difficult to turn/pull pots on mine when they arrived too. I used Deoxit, sprayed some in the tiny square openings on the backs on the pots, and I removed the knobs and used a toothpick to help dribble some Deoxit down the pot shaft. Work it in well then they spin easily.
15. Is that the 2002 MkII that was just on craigslist.de? Looks fantasic! The old ones had heavily glossed necks, but I think around 2001-ish they changed to a thinner satin finish on the neck, kinda like what's on the body.
16. Yes the MkIII DI cannon is mounted 'backwards' from any MkI and MkII that I've seen.
17.
I wouldn't trust any courier.
You do know that these products get to the stores by courier also, right? The Status in question looks like the bubble wrap created a high point inside the case, and the result is the lacquer crack. But yeah easy fix.
18. That 6 pictured above isn't Rob's. his has chrome hardware, the one pictured has gold and a bass clef inlay.
19. Rob still has his sixer. Probably couldn't bring himself to sell it back then. He showed off that he just had it defretted.
20. Woah, that blue one looks fantastic Bob! What pickups are in the black Sonus?
21. I know where there is a 6'er at now.... (in the US)
22. Rob, a year will pass before you know it. I may get in line for a new order since I already just sold that recently acquired fretless, and cannot find a used MkIII 4-banger.
23. Wal #6 in the fold.
