I`ve been experimenting with lots of different cabs lately, trying to find a nice combination. What I`ve been finding is using a 15" with either a 210 or 410 is producing a large peak in the low mids, at a guess somewhere between 160Hz and 400Hz. This is because both cabs are quite good at reproducing those frequencies I can roll this off the amp and it sounds flatter, but I don`t like having to use valuable eq on the amp to correct a flaw in my choice of cabinet. I know the Boffins will be here soon enough telling me not to mix my drinks, but to put it simply, I want to. And from what can tell from what you lot are using, you do too. So, with that in mind, has anyone tried using a low pass filter either inline (built into a cable for instance) or switchable in/out on the back panel? Or simply available on one input, while the other input remains full range. I`d try it at 160Hz initially. I realize this won`t be the most efficient use of the cab with the filter on, but it would enable the use of that cab in a much more versatile way, ie: in a combi stack, or on its own. From what I can tell from people on here, they mainly add a 15" to add that depth at low frequencies and not for definition or clarity. Does this make sense to anyone? I`m tempted to either make or buy one off the shelf and try it out, you never know, it might make all the difference. MM

Thanks for the reply Bassman, but I`m not seeing anything specifically Ampeg there. The basket one does look close though. I have a few sources for good looking Tolex but none that match Ampegs modern version. MM

Right, I posted on here in the items wanted for an ampeg 210. BUT. Considering the average price for an Ampeg 210 is £200 and the average price for an Ampeg 410 is £200, why buy the 210? OK it`s a bit lighter, takes up less space,(but as Wayne pointed out, only vertically), but financially it doesn`t seem to make sense when compared to other cabs. I have an Eden210t which sounds nice with the ampeg410, is it worth the aggro to get a matching top? The wife is utterly sick of my dithering. I need help deciding, so let`s have some pros and cons please. Ta. MM

Nice jpgs shame about the bass.

I`m considering re-covering an 80s ampeg cab which is pretty tatty, but I`m not having much fun finding ampeg tolex. Allparts UK have an Ampeg Tolex page, but it`s blank. The only other obvious source is Fliptops in the U.S. I don`t suppose a couple of yards of tolex and a couple of foot of grillcloth will cost much to ship. Anyone have any good guesses? Anyone have suggestions for a UK source? MM

Hello all. I`m selling on my Eden 210t and a very nice cab fitted with a 200w Eminence driver. Info. The David Eden 210T has in the past been fitted with Celestion BL-150s.Bringing it`s rating to 300watts at 8ohm This cab sounds excellent, and I was tempted to use it on it`s own for my sound until we started doing some dub-reggae type tunes. It works well on top of a 1x15 or a 4x10 or as I said alone. The 1x15 cab is an EV p.a designed cabinet fitted with an Eminence 15846 200watt 8ohm driver. These were oem speakers made by Eminence for several bass amp manufacturers. It sounds very warm and expansive and worked well with the 210. The reason I`m selling these is I recently aqquired an Ampeg 410e and am gassing for an Ampeg 210he to match. I paid £120 for the Eden and I`d like that back as it`s a great cab for the price. I reckon the driver in the EV cab is worth £30 alone so £50 for the cab loaded. If anyone fancies both, you can have them for £150. More pics on demand if anyone needs to see input sockets etc. Ta, MM

I reckon a couple of those early pics are the Roadhouse Manchester! Nice colour on the bass. Ever think of having a custom control plate made with no holes in?

Right, tardy Lampy just replied with a firm called Acre Jean in London village on +442088773211 AcreJean.com Don`t be put off by the bling, they do good cheap backdrops to your design. MM -
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. There's nothing the least bit magical about loudspeaker design, and all you need to learn how to design them is the ability to read and desire to advance your knowledge. Learning how to do this 'stuff' by sawing wood is how it was done when better means did not exist; that era ended with Thiele and Small circa 1965. The only thing that software has done is to remove the need to wade through mountains of equations. If your personal preference is to remain technologically in the dark that's your prerogative. Advising others that they should do so as well, not so much.
That`s me told! I might remind you though, that this is supposed to be fun, otherwise we`d all be accountants.

Thanks for the cab Gem, .It even looks like the Ampeg cab I`m going to sit it on. I`ll be trying it out with the Markbass and Ampeg 410 both together and on it`s today at rehearsals but just playing through it in my home it sounded rich and deep. For anyone thinking about the amp, its a steal at £20 and I was seriously tempted myself. These Leech amps are increasingly rare and and would make a great rehearsal/small gig amp. BUMP for the amp! Grant just bought an amp from me. He paid immediately upon agreeing the deal, kept in touch throughout and let me know when it arrived and gave me a big thanks. Have no qualms about dealing with this bloke! Ta MM

That`s lovely, ever so melodic.

Actually, that doesn`t sound like a Bass to me. More like a monosynth like a Roland SH101.It had two oscillators so you tune one up to the octave. The actual signal sounds like it has a very close delay on it, almost what used to be called ADT, automatic double tracking. As it can only play one note at a time it suits the Dub style because the faster the riff the more staccato it gets as it cuts out the previous note, yet the longer notes have a nice decay set by the envelope section. Have a listen to it on this track and you can hear one oscillator slightly out of tune to make it sound fatter. Martin, I`m with you. You learn about this stuff by sawing wood, not entering numbers into software. Half the time its completely wrong, but sounds fine. Sounds like fun to me. To the OP, agreed on the finding a sun or similar or even peavey 2x15 box and having a listen before you decide to build your own, you may just decide you found that sound.

The vinyl banners look ok, but I bet they are heavy and may look a bit crap if creased. Cheap though.
