It will be a hacked account, probably the account on someone who is pretty much inactive on Facebook. They will likely have listed loads of different types of bargain goods, often with the same price tag.

Guess it must be worth their while otherwise why do it ?

I know how it works, I'm lamenting the fact that some people don't ask the simple questions that would keep them safer online.  As you point out (and as I was alluding to, possibly too obliquely), enough folk must fall for it or else they wouldn't do it.

IME fb does not moderate as much as they want you to think. Ive reported posts at home in Cyprus several times, same guy always. Theyre in Greek, this is proper hate speech. No I'm not being a tofu eating wokeratus, it's almost a textbook example of what they themselves define as unacceptable on a community page. Dehumanising language, sweeping judgements on populations and encouraging people to "do something about it". Guess what, nothing done. Pathetic.

Yet you use terms like "tofu eating wokeratus"...

If I was only allowed one flavour of popcorn, it would be salt. However, I love the clash of salt and sweet. I'll be getting the flip out now. :D

Hey, if you guys are eating it, that gets it the flock out of my radar, so happy days...

I did ask the question earlier in the thread, "So what do you mean by 'budget gear'? Do you mean cheaper to produce, or cheaper to buy?", but nobody answered, so, yeah. Has anyone got any sweet'n'salty? Dad's is running out.

Yuck, you can keep that dross.  Salt popcorn only or GTFO.

Nothing against these per se; I played Gary's for a bit and it was fine, but always felt the geometry on the Epiphones was out compared with the original.  I know many will see this as nitpicking, but if you're going to make/reproduce/copy a faithful replica, then then should be doing that (much like they're trying to do with all the Les Pauls, Explorers, Vs and SGs).  About the only area where the body looks correct is the forearm bout.  The other three corners are skewed; the lower horn has always been short/stubby and the upper neck joint and control corner, smoothed out/rounded.

That's ok, my geometry is also out compared to my golden age, assuming I had one :D

Basschat is coming pretty close to being dead to me.

Almost every thread turns into a pointless bitch fest which has little or nothing to do with the original post.

    It's all getting rather tedious.

It's like Hotel California though.  I checked out for a while, but as you can see, I didn't leave...

  7. Well, that's February done and dusted, so let's have a look at how things are going.

Out of 42 who began, 9 have fallen so far, leaving 33 remaining.

February had a slightly lower attrition rate, 4 left the proceedings versus 5 in January, so that's... a thing.

2 months down, 10 to go.  Stay strong! :D

Building from scratch, but it's currently a collection of unconnected components. So, is it the actuality or the intent that counts?

I guess it's not gear if it's a pile of unassembled electronic components components which could be used for anything, until they are used to make a bass pedal...

So far this year I've finished 3 pedals - two of them started from scratch this year, one just re-boxed from last year. Things is, I didn't have to buy any components for them as I already had them in my shed. I still think I'm IN, but will defer to the judgement of the BC massive.

If the components were already in your possession at the start of the year, then it's all good as far as I'm concerned.  Make do an mend/use what you've already got is exactly what this thing is all about.

Surely diy comes under a slightly different catagory

No, it's still gear.  Otherwise we'd just have people sneaking gear in in dribs and drabs.  It doesn't matter if you bought the parts to make gear or just bought gear, it's gear.  I appreciate you sneaky wee scamps coming up with schemes though, it's part of what makes this thread amusing!

I think I'm in a state of Schrodinger's abstinence. I've bought a PCB for @LukeFRC's Iron Man pedal, and ordered a few components for it, but does it yet count as failure or is it only failure when the pedal is assembled? Knowing me, that could mean I'll be out of the 2026 abstinence challenge.

It's up to your conscience.  Are you repairing a dead pedal or something?  If you're building from scratch and it's an effects pedal then it's gear, and I'd say you're out.  Anyone else want to weigh in?

USA Epiphones were out of production for nearly 50 years.  In that time the name was used exclusively on cheaper Japanese & Korean made instruments.  Hardly progress from their pre-Gibson heyday.

So, you're going to completely sidestep everything I've said then?  OK, have fun with the bee in your bonnet, at least it agrees with you :D
