The FB comedy continues - see if you can spot the problem without reading the text, then laugh at the reason why the bass is how it is!

So, the bass is in Nottingham, but the "seller" lives in Birmingham. Is it this easy to scam people these days?

I do sell things on Facebook, but I try to be as reassuring as possible. Even WhatsApp video called with a potential buyer to demo an amp recently.
Right now, there’s a cab on Facebook I would like to buy, the seller is responsive, but wants me to arrange the courier, but also can’t yet tell me the dimensions or weight. It’s not on Basschat either. I don’t know if it’s worth the worry.
RobIf they can't tell you the dimensions/weight then they either don't have it, or they don't want to sell it at distance. Also, you think this muppet will package it well if they can't even use a measuring tape? Walk away.

I've messaged them
(the "seller" that is, might as well have a laugh)

Wow it was below 900 after all the customs and tax?
I think you said you got it from the well know. Japanese music store.
Aye, Ishibashi. Great service, answered all my emails, accurate description, big detailed photos, sent the bass in a super sturdy box. I'll be back.

Sustainability? I can understand if there are technical reasons why an older device can't be supported, but I call BS on anyone who claims it's not used as a means to coerce customers into buying the latest shiny tech. As long as it's shinier than my tin foil hat, right?

Appreciate you can just leave the 734 in passive, but at what point do you think you might be better off with the P34 or even the 434 and upgrade the pickups? Appreciate colours and finishes may play a part in this.
I thought I'd be better off importing a BB1200 from Japan, so that's what I did. Got change out of £900. If you must have a PJ, get a BB2000. Then you'll have something you can't get right now - an OG neck thru BB.

Ahh, the dibbler. His video editing style is a bit of an acquired taste, and he does talk crap sometimes, but his heart's in the right place I think.

Is the string tree really necessary? For a bass with good, straight alignment between strings above and below the nut, what would happen if you just took the string tree off?
Yes - in 4 in line tuner headstocks which are flat (as in not angled), the break angle over the nut is insufficient for the D and G strings and you'll get rattles and other noise artifacts. The string tree is there to create a sufficient break angle over the nut in those cases. With enough wraps down the E and A tuners it's supposed to generate sufficient angle.
But hey, Leo got it right first time, right?

Unfortunately, I have a gig the night before. I know I said that last year and ended up being able to attend because there was a cancellation, but I'm not placing any bets on lightning striking twice. You never know, but at time of writing this, I will be unable to attend and lumber you with my recycling

That's bad luck!
TBF it's usually "The 'Spoons", I don't think Wetherspoons is posh enough to have "The" in front of it

Oh, while I am here - another 'Spoons veto.
I hope you're talking about Wetherspoons, and not The Inevitable Teaspoons!
(we often get shortened to 'Spoons - it caught my eye)

I'm really sorry , but I think this is the winning post in this thread
I don't think so. Mine works fine, ergo the post is bollox.
Also, judging by the spelling, I think @itu has had a few shandies...

Worst name for a product ever - all this talk of PP3s makes me think of you hooking a 9V battery up to the mains.
Which I know is bonkers but I can't get that vision out of my head!

I'm out.
My oldest bestie came down to stay yesterday for his annual visit. I don't usually drink at all, but to mark the special occasion we went out for a swift Guinness. Several not so swift hours later we concocted a plan to get an online conga/bass thing happening (he has a studio).
Checking my email this morning, Thomann confirms that last night I did indeed buy a Hofner violin bass (SE Ignition) and a set of pyramid flats.
I'm sure it sounded like a great idea at the time, and you know what? It still does! 😂
Maybe next year...
Ahh, the devil drink strikes again! Enjoy the bass

Clearly (and unfortunately) enough people fall for this scam, otherwise scammers wouldn't do it.

What's your beef with basswood? It's not balsa!
Are those tuners small? They're elephant ears, no? When you said "small tuners" I was expecting to see something akin to a Gotoh GB7 type thing with small Y key. You must like 'em BIG if you consider these to be small.
I just scratched my head a lot. You do you, but I'm really confused!

Use the spare money for some lessons, upgrade yourself instead?
Unpopular suggestion, no doubt, but I thought I'd throw it out there. If you improve your playing, you improve how every bass you'll ever own sounds.

The Cave - a barber shop in Aberdeen. Needed a quick haircut and was looking for a new place as my old one closed. So I went into their place. Got told by the lady (receptionist?) that it was appointment only. Place was empty. I said I was just wanting a single gauge buzz cut. Lady went to the back shop to speak to the barber. Guy actually looked at me through the open door then shook his head at the lady then disappeared back into the back shop. In full view of me!
Well, F you then, you snobby C!
Went to the place next door to it and got sorted out no bother.
Also Wetherspoons can eat a D. Owner's a knob. Managed to successfully dissuade my staff Christmas night out from going there and go to a nearby establishment instead, and will continue to fight the good fight.
Me and Gibson (USA) are on a long term break...

But, getting back to the original premise, if you had 5k to spend on a bass, would you buy Fender CS or look elsewhere?

You just can't help yourself, can you? Are you even reading our input, or just using any excuse to berate bolt on construction? Just rename the thread to "I hate bolt on construction and I think anyone who owns one is an idiot" and be done with it, because that's all I'm getting from this thread now.
Cool story bro. I'm out.
