1. HI Just to remind everyone that we are now less than a month away from the Moffat Bass Bash. This is a ticket only event no pay on the day I am afraid so please keep that in mind. Ticket sales are open until the Friday before the event or until sold out which ever comes first. As always first come first served. Cheers Alan
2. There was a good one in this thread but it has been taken down. He may still have it might be worth asking. 3. Hi I had a look at the bass xx site and as far as I can see they do not use a lowpass or high pass filter in their design. It appears to be a sweepable mid which is not the same thing. As Mike mentioned it is bassically the same principal as many other 3 band EQs. The 01 a 02 preamps make use of several filters including sub sonic filtering which removes very low frequencies from the signal which means your amp/cab don't have to try and reproduce them.
4. I would change one at a time. Either change the pickups and see how that goes or the other way round. If you are not sure which of the two is the weak link in the setup. Pretty much all my experience is with the Armstrong pickups I use. Aaron can wind pretty much whatever you want in the size you need for the bass,it is worth having a chat with him.
5. Hi The ACG EQ02 pre-amp is still very much available the 01 version is only available in my own instruments I am afraid. Cheers Alan

7. Fair point mr apple. He is well into his 80,s.
8. My friends dad ran a school in Moffat. Which school was it.
9. It is about an hour and a half to Moffat from Perth. My brother lives there so I have made the trip many times. Pretty much motorway door to door. Moffat is 2 miles from the 74 so less than an hour from Glasgow and a shade more from Edinburgh. To be honest this is the first year there has been as much interest from here as there has been south of the border. We have guys coming up from as far as Bristol. If you want numbers I suggest you sort something out in the central belt. In my experience if it is not on the doorstep people seem very reluctant to travel any distance in this part of the world. If you sort out something in Perth I should be able to make it.

Hi Geoff You are more than welcome. There may be another room come up in January depending on wither the hotel gets it finished in time. There may also be a room coming up if young Birch does not show a marked improvement in his next report card.

15. I spent a while talking to a guy from Greece so assuming that was he your friend. He played this bass. www.acguitars.co.uk/Gallery/282/
16. I was the bald guy with glasses that was on the stand all day. I am sure Dave or John would have pointed me out. I did spend a lot of the day in the stair well talking to people so possible I was not there when you were. But fair point I don't have any ACG t-shirts so looked like everyone else. I did however manage to talk to loads of people so I was possible to find.
17. Hi All four coils in series. Both sets of two in series but going out in parallel. One set of two in series. That is what Aaron sent for the wiring.
18. Aaron Armstrong will make custom pickups.
19. Our sorry excuse of a try out room worked very well. We got to demo more basses/pre-amp and cabs than I have ever managed at Bassday. It was quiet so we could explain and answer questions without shouting and people could actually hear what they were playing. They also had a degree of privacy to play a bass without an audience, a lot of people do not like to play in front of a pile of bass players. Had you tired it maybe you would have seen it in a different light. Cheers Alan
20. A most enjoyable day and for the first time ever I got to see some of the acts. I enjoyed Nigel's stuff the rock section he did with a plectrum was immense. Thanks to everyone that dropped by the stand. Thanks to Stevie for sorting it all out especially our demo space that was very much appreciated. Thanks to Dave from EAD and John from East UK for the great company. John's suicidal pre-amp display was excellent all day.
21.
I think the apparent "comfort" of the Fender body shapes is mainly down to familiarity. Up until recently most bass players started off on something cheap that was derived from the Fender designs and because they had no other point of reference, they accepted it for what it was and got used to it. Then when they could afford something that said Fender on the headstock it would be a significant improvement. Because I spent almost 30 years playing basses that had almost nothing in common with the Fender designs, when I did finally buy one and got to play it for more than 30 minutes in the music shop I found that the shape really didn't suit me at all and in some respects it was quite awkward and uncomfortable to play.
I am the same having never owed a Fender and to be honest I have never wanted to. When I did get round to trying one having played other basses for years I found them a huge let down in just about every way. I find the P Bass in particular very uncomfortable on the strap and sitting down the J bass less so.
22.
If you were to put the same gear into Adler/Ash P or J bodies do you think it would have been a different ending?
Pretty sure I would have sold them. Ask again in 6 months and I will have an answer for sure.
23. Cheers Mr 4000. You going to make Bassday.
24. Selling original designs is hard work. I have tried to design things that are of the beaten track. I have seen numerous posts on various forums say how ugly, stupid, don't see the point, any number of other disparaging remarks about my designs. Fortunately I have found enough people or they have found me to make a business out of this. But if I wanted to sell a lot of basses I would build copies because that is what the majority want to buy. I am working on a production Jazz type bass for that very reason. I tried producing an entry level hand made bass with better hardware pre-amp etc than a Fender for a lot less than an American Fender but not Fender shaped. I have given up because I can't sell them.
