1. Apology accepted 100%.We are cool and absolutely no hard feelings here either.
2. This is a semantic argument now.
3.
Says the man who went to the trouble of writing a whole book about one of his musical heroes
Awful to admit it, FF, but PC is not one of my heroes. I chose him because it would have a market! Oh, the shame of it!
4. I don't think I have ever gone on a pilgrimage to see anything, I have only seen stuff by being there anyway. Kind of 'oooh look! York Minster Cathedral' when I was in York for a conference. Would I travel anywhere to see something like Paul Chambers' bass? Well, I haven't to date so I guess not. Cult of Personality stuff has always made me uncomfortable ( I know why. I was at a gig when I was 17ish and saw people getting autographs off the guitar player. I got one and immediately felt like a dick so never did it again. I have never even sought to speak to an artist since) PS I went to a wedding in Abbey Road about 4 years ago with 2 of my 3 brothers. We didn't even register the zebra crossing let alone seek out the studio
5. Slow progress this month. Not sure I am going to get there
6. Say hi to Osian for me....
7. Yes. The brackets are so you don't sharpen an existing sharp (sometimes called a double sharp e.g. F## = G).
8. Sorry, mate, but I would have been at the luthier's by now.
9. Have stopped reading the thread but the coachloads visiting Paul's house evidences the fact that they are overrated. No-one is worthy of that nonsense.
10. Monster, Andy. Great definition in your sound and some interesting production ideas.
11.
If you only ever listened to 10% of their stuff how can you know if they're overrated or not?
For that reason. It s perfectly possible to 'know' about The Fab Four and their ubiquitousness without knowing every tune. I know about Dickens and Shakespeare but have only read 2 works by each of them. There is an argument that ALL superstars are overrated.
12. I choose to use the term overrated simply because, great as they were, they weren't the b all and end all of everything which is sometimes the way they are portrayed. I don't disagree for a second with any points raised about their influence. What I may say, if pushed, is that The Beatles weren't as influential as the success of the Beatles was x
13. Beatles tunes and jazz musicians have resulted in some shockingly bad jazz A lot of Beatles tunes on jazz albums are commercial decisions made by misguided producers. I don't want to generalise but (will) most examples of jazz plus Beatles tunes are less than the sum of their parts.
14. I don't dispute their influence, just think that it is not as 'essential' as is argued. That is the only thing I mean by overrated. They are unquestionabiy the most influential band in Rock and Pop.
15. I really appreciate what you are doing, SB. Always interesting and provocative.
16. The most over-rated band in history Very influential etc but I have never actually listened to 90% of their stuff. Not hostile, just never went there.
17. For me, it has always been about harmony and modulation. I remember as a young child at church always liking the hymns with movement in them. Now it's Falling Grace but the 'special' ingrediant is still the harmony.
18.
I'm hearing great things about the Gallien Krueger MB150E / MB150S for DB. Can't see to for out the difference between the'E' and 'S' suffix.
The E has on-board effects.
19. I hate that Trout thing. It irritates me.
20. I went for Evah Pirazzis precisely because they are good for both arco and pizz.
21. I am a Jazz musician. I have no place in this thread
22. Joe Lovano - Landmarks. One of my top ten
23. I gig both through an AI Clarus. Probably not loud enough for rock gigs but it works for me.
24. I'd say A minor but its all over the place tuning wise so that won't help.
