1. Rather that than a new thread!!
2. The pattern described would probably be played using a barre chord whereby the little finger (supported by the third) would bridge both the higher D and A siultaneously whilst the index finger would cover the low D.
3. A major favourite LP of mine is Nova's 'Vimana' which has PJ on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2BuCBFQnBk
4. I deleted my votes and reentered them as I had voted for the one that was removed. I voted for two of my original three and a third 'new' one. Hope that's acceptable!!
5. Try getting the score for Jesus Christ Superstar. Absolute killer read.
6. The problem is not the song, Gonz. It is no worse than a million other pop songs. It is the assumption that it has something to do with Jazz and the fact that the bass playing on the original is shocking even though it was on a major hit. And finally, being the blunt, I just like making mischief sometimes 😎
7. Anyone know why he withdrew? It was a good track.
8. I did a remix of mine with REAL drums (recorded by a drummer friend at his place and dropboxed to me) and more bass (still could have been better but no time). Link still works but now takes you to a new version of the same track.
9. Ref: lines. Not necessary. You can't see them most of the time and, if you are reading charts or watching for cues, you are screwed. Muscle memory is the skill you need to acquire, not 20:20 vision.
10. Not read the thread but, for my money, the 'transition' takes minutes/a lifetime. You can play a convincing fretless part within moments; it really isn't that hard. But, for the next couple of decades, you will ebb and flow in term,s of the relationship you have with your own intonation. For me, it all gets a bit lairy up the dusty end where a couple of mil can make the difference between the smell of freshly mown grass and a fart in a space suit. It's a life long quest.
11. You are welcome.
12. I am not 100% sure but I think Telephone was an album by Ron Carter and Jim Hall, not Joe Pass, which may explain why you cannot find it. I guess Pass may have recorded it with Carter on another album but you may know better than me. Anyway, here is the CD on Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ron-Carter-Jim-Hall-UCCO-90319/dp/B00KY9VWGS/ref=sr_1_sc_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1427454010&sr=1-3-spell&keywords=jim+hall+ron+carete
13. I'd buy that.....
14. Mindfullness is marmite. It was rolled out locally as a training event and some think it is the answer to everything whilst others think it is a load of old b*ll*cks. Bit like rap I guess.
15.
Nice music stand - did the audience walk out
Ha! I can play better with a music stand than most people can without!!!
16. Made In Japan was one of the first rock cassettes ( ) I ever heard (a friend had it when we went on holiday) and I love it but Machine head is right up there alongside it. But I have to say, the one ! go back to again and again, even now that I am a Jazz nazi, is 'Burn', one of the best rock anthems in the canon. (Rainbow Rising remains a favourite as well, for Airey and Powell as much as the rest)
17. It played for me and I voted for it!!
18. Jazz East at The Fludyers in Felixstowe, Suffolk. My own little Jazz venture. This week I get to play with Phil Robson and Christine Tobin (again ). Details at www.jazzeast.vpweb.co.uk
19. There are inexpensive drone apps as well.
20. Wow! What a fantastic line-up!
21. Got a new audio interface and that hum has gone at last!!!!!!!
22. Some people just don't understand how language works, how it develops and grows. I would rather 'So...' than 'Forsooth...' Grammar nazis? Worserer than apostrophe nazi's.
23. Try Holst's 'Planet Suite' and Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Scheherezade'. Both stunning pieces of music that I have adored for decades.
24. There are plenty of world/folk musics that can do that, scalpy. A lot of world music carries dual meanings such as the Brazilian saudade which means is a sort of melancholy happiness. The blues is the same; 'we sing happy things because it helps us cope with being sad' kind of thing (I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings). Flamenco does it. Argentine Tango does it too, and reggae - I think it is more common than these perspectives indicate. I also suspect that Tilson Thomas may have a bias
