1. the neox212 is a good cab, but for me I could afford neither this nor the s12, hence the compact at my budget seemed like the one. Time will tell
2. I am gonna bump this. The cab is for sale, and I have more pics to email showing all the nicks and scuffs. £200 the head might go - depends if I decide to replace or not. Any trial and inspection welcome - Nottingham C
3. I know the GB is an awesome cab, but Ive done PA for a band where the bass player had a super 12 - it was awesome.
4. As it says really. Just pondering which small heads will give a similar tone etc to my ABM500 evoii?
5. Also it's got 2 speakon connectors which is nice.
6. Nasty. On my acoustic they flake a bit bit it's never been an issue. Maybe on bass it will be different. Hope so.
7. And I will tel you what part 2, the ABM head is GREAT. Anyone who claims they can only get mud out of these heads is clearly in need of a lesson in how to actually use one. I might actually keep it. Although I like the idea of a shuttle 9. and another compact or midget hahahaha
8. tell you what though, my MIM P bass sounds unbelievably good. Proper funk machine.
9. £540 delivered incl neo surcharge. Not cheap, but probably better than much at that price. I might want another, or a midget, and a properly powerful head to drive them GRRRRRR :-)
10. I'd have got a super 12 if I had the funds. Heard one a couple of times. Stunning. But this is good, at least in my studio. Need to let the woofer loosen to get the full effect
11. Well, here it is, with my ABM head on top. This time the right way up lol First impressions are that is it built to a far higher standard than the big one I tried 18 months ago. Very nice indeed. Fired up the rig quickly, and given it a brief pasting with my MIM P with rounds on it. Big sound. PLENTY or top end and bite, which I was expecting but still surprised me. Not had much more time with it, but I can get a big range of sounds from the head through it. Not sure what I am expecting at a gig, and not sure how it will change in character when the woofer is broken in, but so far it seems good, and great for the size. More feedback to come. Chris
12. Le Compact est arrive New thread to follow
13. funny you mention the earthing thing - I noticed a bit of static after I put them on. It's not the best shielded bass in the world, and it hates my dimmer switch before and after, so we will see....
14. I had some earlier Ashdown ABM cabs with half wings. Newer ones are full central wings. The 4by8 I had was immense. Good luck with the sale.
15.
I'd have gone for the GB cab
Yep, and I still can / might - 1 month trial period, absolutely no reason not to try a compact.
16. bloody hell, no pressure then lads haha :-)
17. Just swopped the flats out on my MIM P as I was not getting on with them - and replaced with Elixir Rounds. I use ELixir's on my Acoustic Guitar, and they are great, lasting well and feeling smooth. These bass versions, whilst dear at £28, seem to be as good so far. Just thought I would share - the bass sounds very much like a Precision should. C
18. Me too lol Thursday is the day, then gig on Sat. using my ABM500 head for now at least. Alex reckons that it will produce the weight of the sound that the Ashdown 410 does, but that I would need a more powerful amp to do so, and that it will be best to see what sort of tonal footprint the ABM is giving before deciding on a head. I would think "bigger" means shuttle 9 or similar - I believe the Compact can take up to 600w at 8 ohms.....which would be impressive it is does it without strain. I shall report in detail anyway. Chris
19. Anyway, COMPACT ordered from stock, will be here this week. no reason not to try one out, given Alex's trial policy. I shall report back.
20. lol Dave, thought you might. I shall be mostly going to bed now, and will check in on my Iphone shortly.....
21. BTW Dave, there is a F500 come up fs.
22. oooo...good debate :-) This whole issue is starting to do my head in, I might just not bother lol. In my exploits in guitar and drums, I have never had such anguish (lol it's not that bad) over gear as I have as a bassist. Drums - I know what I like, buy it, use it, full stop. Guitar, I know what I like, buy it, use it. BASS - f**k knows. History - Buy Hartke, sell Hartke, buy Ashdown, Sell Ashdown, buy Markbass, sell Markbass, Buy Markbass and Tecamp, sell Markbas and Tecamp, buy Ashdown...... and here we are today. Same with basses. sh*t. Help meeeeeeeeeeee!!!
23. is this still for sale?
24. Thanks Alex....I will email you in a sec. And thanks all for your thoughts too. Chris
25. no love for the Genz cab then?
