  1. When I got my first Sandberg, it made all my other basses feel hard to play πŸ˜… (I sold them all in the following months, even my old faithful US Jazz I'd had for nearly 20 years, to buy more Sandbergs 🀣)
  2. I hear what you're saying, but unless you have an accurate way to measure the amount of relief in the neck, as well as the saddle height, the measurements will only ever give you a starting point.
  3. I'm exactly the same, there's too many variables, and the measurements don't tell the whole story. Feel/sight/sound is the best way to go.πŸ‘Œ
  4. A pretty rare bass these days, the GAXB150 was only offered for a few years, before Ibanez canned the entire GAX range of guitars and basses. It's a shame because they were really fantastic instruments that punched way above their price bracket! Due to this, they are highly regarded and sought after. It really is a lovely little bass This bass is approx. 20 years old, and does have scratches and dings on it, but plays and sounds incredible! The neck is beautifully slim and fast, the rosewood fretboard is gorgeous, and the frets show virtually no wear. The Ibanez DX4 humbucker was used in the BTB basses at the time, and is a decent pickup. I removed the original 'tone selector' switch (NOT a coil switch), and replaced it with a 250k tone pot with 0.047uV orange drop cap. The switch and surround will be supplied with the bass in case you wish to revert to that. Specs: Solid Agathis body Hard Rock Maple Neck Rosewood fretboard Ibanez DX4 dual coil pickup Master volume, master tone Any questions welcome, collection preferred but postage could probably be arranged at buyers cost. Thanks, Oli 😊
  5. *Now reduced to £200* I've decided to part ways with my customised Trace 1x15" cab. It started out as a sorry looking combo with no amp, but I've converted it to a standalone cab. Refinished with Tuff Cab paint, new corners and feet, new port rings, and some insulation inside. I replaced the original driver with a LaVoce 400w 8ohm unit, which worked out to be the best match after running the calculations (thanks to BCers!). It sounds phenomenal, and is pretty compact for a 1x15"! The speaker alone cost £140 and has done very little work since being fitted. A lot of time and effort went into making this cab, and the results are excellent, however I want to go in a different direction now and need to feed up money and space. Let me know if you have any questions Thanks, Oli 😊
  6. Selling my epic and now pretty rare Markbass Stu Amp 1000w! This is an absolutely fantastic amp, separate tube and solid state preamp levels, and 7 band graphic EQ make it easy to sculpt the sound you want. The 1000w power amp is excellent, and has masses of headroom. This amp has been housed in a rack case since new, so is in absolutely immaculate condition, as you'll see from the pictures. It comes with the original rack ears, which are virtually impossible to find now, as well as the original box and manual. Collection from Hereford, or I can ship at the buyers expense. Any questions, please let me know. Thanks! 😊
  7. This is really sad news, Sam was such a lovely person! πŸ˜”
  8. Hey folks! My Buddha Chakra compressor (which I've had for years and absolutely LOVE) seems to have developed a really audible click/pop when activated.... Not the best at a gig! I'm assuming it's wear and tear on the actual footswitch contacts, and maybe the footswitch component just needs replacing? I do really love it so I want to keep it going if possible, I've previously replaced the DC power socket after that became worn. Just wondered if anyone more knowledgeable has any thoughts/input on this? Thanks for your help πŸ™
  9. Well, my youngest plays drums, and the middle one has just started teaching himself guitar, so the three of them were jamming the other night! Basic, but they were making music! πŸ‘Œ
  10. A couple of months ago, my eldest son was just starting his BTEC music course at high school, but didn't at that point play an instrument, so he needed to choose something..... Being a super cool kid, he obviously chose bass! πŸ˜…πŸ‘ŒπŸ₯³β€οΈ He's just turned 15, what a great age to start! (I was 14) I was going to sell this cool little Ibanez GAXB150, but I gifted it to him instead. πŸ˜‰ Some of his best pals are on the course too, and they've got a band going already, and have been super committed, and working hard to get where they want to be. They've even got their first performance at school next week! He's loving old school thrash metal, so we're off to see Anthrax this week too! 🀘😎 Happy times!
  11. Thanks! It looks kinda different in that evening sunlight, this is probably a truer representation
  12. Hey guys! Finally finished yesterday and gigged last night! Really pleased with how it turned out, and it plays and sounds fab! Lighter than my BBN5 too πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘Œ
  13. Hi guys, I know I was tentative anyway, but I'm currently nuts deep in a kitchen renovation, so I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to make it tomorrow πŸ˜’ Maybe next time! Hope it goes well πŸ‘Œ
  14. Finished my little project on the BB405 πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘Œ
  15. Tried them, and for me they didn't live up to the hype, certainly didn't fulfill the bold claims Alex makes. Your experience may vary. If I were in your position, I'd be looking at GR Bass if in budget, if not the newer super lightweight Markbass cabs.
  16. Got insulation done this evening, and the LaVoce fitted, sounding good so far! Thanks for all your help guys πŸ™
  17. Thanks very much! I did wonder about spray glue, but was trying to avoid it πŸ˜…πŸ₯΄ Probably the best option though.
  18. Hey folks! πŸ‘‹ 😁 Finally, Blue Aran have the La Voce back in stock, so I've ordered it today! Couple of questions though: 1) should I fix it via the screw holes in the surround, or use the original TE clamp system that's holding the original speaker in? Any pros/cons either way? 2) I've bought some wadding to insulate the cab, is there a preferred method of fixing it in? Staple gun? Hot glue gun? Thanks! πŸ˜ŠπŸ™
  19. Okay, thanks guys. I believe the Β£135 threshold to be correct, as stated on the gov website, but you're right that some vendors seem to add duty at checkout and some don't. https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty I think it'll work out costing me the same or more from abroad if the duty isn't added to the checkout price (which it doesn't look to be). Yay Brexit... πŸ˜’
  20. Hi folks, apologies if this has already been asked, I did a search but didn't turn anything up. Am I right in thinking that if buying anything from Europe over Β£135, VAT isn't added at checkout and you need to pay it to the delivery company once it's in the UK? I'm looking at an amp, some good prices in Europe, but if the above is correct it's not such a good deal.... Thanks, Oli
  21. Exactly what I thought! πŸ˜… Doing some further experiments at the moment. It is kinda surf greeny, which isn't a bad thing necessarily
  22. It's the one I pictured further up the thread, Littlefairs Beach Hut Green
  23. Hmm... This stain came yesterday, didn't look like the product pictures... It's more like watered down paint! This is 3 coats on a test piece of poplar. It's not what I was expecting, but kinda cool? Can't decide if I like it or not.... Will get a couple of coats of Polyx over it and see what it looks like.
  24. We have a private party tomorrow night for the increasingly famous Beefy Boys, our next public gig is at Gordon Bennetts, Hereford on Saturday πŸ‘Œ
  25. Yeah I've used the black and the gold ranges before, definitely find the gold better to apply. I think the stock nozzles are better than most spray cans, goes on beautifully and easy to control. Hopefully this stain will be good though, should be easier and quicker to apply than spraying, and it'll be nice to see the wood grain, not that it's fancy at all. 😊
