1. you took the ashtrays off
2.
My LB plus the LB cab never came with the correct manual. They came with Klystron manuals. I'm happy enough to muck around with the settings- yes they do seem inconsistent, even on the same amp, I guess it must be a bit of a nightmare if you have the spyder too. Not quite loud enough, no, but I think you'll be surprised. I don't know what kind of band you're in, I guess a hard rock/ metal band with 2 guitarists and you'd be lost, but I play in a 5 piece folk/rock outfit and last Sat I tried the LB out and it held it's own. Medium-ish sized pub, packed out. Like I said, I had no headroom, I was just on the cusp of breaking up (where if anything it gets quieter) but I could easily be heard. It took me a few songs to get used to the sound of valves- at first I thought I couldn't hear myself at all- I'm so used to having that directional, focused sound from solid state that I didn't realise how loud I was. Then I stopped playing just for a second and realised just how layered and a part of the sound I was. More a bed of bass than just notes. Made us sound fatter. But, yeah. Come on Ashdown sort it out! I think every LB owner should be able to send their LB back to the factory and have Ashdown fix the problems, plus chuck in a couple extra valves and a few more watts as way of compensation!
I didn't even get a manual with my LB
3. very interested in your comparisons on the Spyder and LB. Need the LB to be a touch louder and was considering the Spyder as a good compromise. I'm sure the switches on my LB aren't the same way as the manual describes!!!
As a casual observer of, and occasional participant in, this thread it strikes me that you are trying to "make a silk purse out of a sows ear" in that the LB is a nice toy but isn't really what you need. Back in the 60s, 30-watt bass amps were barely enough - I know because I had one - and it always driven into distortion just to be loud enough. Since then other instruments have got a lot louder which has just aggravated the problem and why 300/500 watt bass amps are now the norm, regardless of how loud you actually need them to be. If valve sound is what you want then perhaps a 100-watt, or even a 200-watt, all-valve head would have been a more appropriate choice. Good luck with your experiments.
Good Point, well presented Thinking the same thing with the LB. Love the valve tone but headroom it ain't got. Its a PITA having to run a cab with the LB and then another for the other amp.
5. what sound you after? Features? etc etc
6.
Cool how does this sound? Looks mean!
Sounds great. the LM3 is pretty uncoloured and i left the controls flat and it seemed to produce the LB's tone nicely. Not run this up tot full yet as the LB is keeping up at practice with one AE210 so i'm hoping that the 412 will move enough air to gig with
Cool how does this sound? Looks mean! Bear with me; Is the balanced input just an input that bypasses the preamp? Ideally, I wouldn't want the tone to be coloured too much, just the signal to be boosted. If I can do this somehow with a regular bass head (i.e LM3) , great, then I also have a head for my other band that requires a cleaner tone. Otherwise I'll need just a power amp I guess.
The balanced input is there so you can connect up a DB or similar. It still goes through the pre amp. It just convinient for me as i have power amp and back up amp in one package
7. I've spoken to Dave Green and you will need a dummy load or a speaker connected. No buts
8. it was more to test the hypothesis at the time but if would probably fall off if i gave it some beans Its a LM3 not 2
9. Done this with my LB and LM LB going through the AE210 with the DI going into the balanced input of the LM3 which is powering the NV412 - Scary
10. where be you?
11. Depends if you like a clean sound
12. fair shout. Very tempted by one of these. Love my LB but need more power and as this shares the Pre it could be a good compromise
13. Thanks for the reply Power supply still needs to be centre -ve though, yeah? Bit confused with the positive ground bit
14. Whenever i plug it into the daisy chain my power supply switches off. Checked everything and thats fine. Can run it off a separate 9v supply and it works a treat but as soon as i daisy chain it with the rest of my pedals they all go off. Not had this before. is it something obvious i've missed? Checked polarities, etc.
15. Callum bought a pedal off me. Really east fast transaction with no problems
I now own the best cab in the world due to this man. Cheers Dave
Nah the 412 is way better
17. Synth ain't great but it will do! The delays are fun as are the reverbs. Going to have to spend some more time with the Mods
18. i should also add i found both the 3.0 and 6.0 shuttles light on the lows
19. Just got it so not used it in the band but programmed some synth sounds, a fuzz patch and an octaver patch plus the tuner useful. Also done an OD one (although i may have forgot to save that one ). Was thinking that maybe i could ditch the other three pedals but not so sure now after having a good play. Some of the modulations are a bit rubbish but the Synths and drives seem okay. The main reason for getting it was so that i could experiment with different sounds as the band has only one guitar andafter flogging my Enigma i needed a Synth type sound for one intro. Have to say the built in drum machine is awesome and as a practice device its great.
20. my latest Velcroed the wireless onto the top of the Diago power supply to save room
21. Didn't think it would be long
