  1. Thanks, Yeah the price range is on the high side for a 50w amp! I don't mind that it's 50 watts though, I dont play the biggest of gigs anyways. Thanks for the reply
  2. Hi all, I've been thinking about saving up for a valve amp abd have seen the 65 Amps Apollo bass head and cab. Has anybody tried one of these out? Any other valve amps out there that you think would rock my world? Thanks-Paul-
  3. LoL, Maybe we will. What are they like then these Matamps? Been wanting to get my hands on a proper valve amp for a while now. How would you discribe the tone?
  4. taking myself to the Matamp factory on Friday. Better chop the credit card up now ;-)
  5. what are the custom options like for matamp amps? I'm thinking more along the lines of EQ voiceing rather than finish. Might take a trip down to the factory, it's only a hour away for me. Can anyone give me a out line of the amps tone? I'm sure they sound great. Thanks
  6. I was thinking about going in for this too. Don't know what i'd make. Something crazy, 36 fret, 7 string fretless

  10. I am looking to get some of the new Q tuners for future bass builds. I sent em a e mail and they said they'll have the new pup design ready in a month ish. That was about 2/3 months ago! I'll send em another e-mail and ask where they are upto.
  11. true that, but you might have to re-design the back (behind the bridge) to accommodate the headless bridge system,
  12. Yo, That bass, if my memory serves me correct, is designed for the female form. So It mightn't balance correctly for a fella. Generally speaking the top horn should hang over the 12th fret so it won't neck dive. As for the neck. I would put a truss rod in. Maple is a hard wood but will still bend under pressure, especially if you don't splice it. You will get a better action with a truss rod. I'd go for carbon fibre rods rather than steel. It's just as strong and lighter (balance). What neck type will you be making? Fender style? Scarf joint? Also, I'd use a ebony board if you making a fretless. Rosewood will wear out. If you need any advice drop me a pm-Paul-
  13. Time to bump this back up, now for sale £1000. Great bass for the price!!!!

  15. love to hear this, any ideas on pricing yet? Or are you at that stage?
  16. As the title says really. Anyone tried one? Got one? Any opinions? After a compressor, but also looking into a rack unit too. Thanks-Paul-
  17. Thanks for the advice dood, I'll take a look at the tc stuff.
  18. Hi, I've just bought a used EA i amp 800 and am looking to get a compressor in the not to distant future. I've started to mooch around the forums and shops etc to see one that catches my eye and I've started to think about rack mounted effects. The problem (if there is one) is I want to keep my sound as transparent/ clean as possable. I used a bass pod years ago and found that it changed the sound of the bass and amp combo. I dodn't like that. Will a rack unit change the sound drastically? Would you advise seperate pedals or a rack unit? Genrally I'm just after a compressor but am still undicided. Any advice? I'm not even sure what I want my self to be honest. Thanks-Paul-
  19. Hi Missionary, Sorry about the late reply. I'll send you a sound file via PM. The bass has no cracks or anything like that, it is well built and sounds great. The bass was set up by a luthier when I first got it (i've since got into luthiery myself). The set up is somewhere between arco and pizz as I mostly play finger style (jazz) but still wanted to be able to use a bow. The strings are thomastic I think, basically its the same set/ gauge that fracis garcia fons uses. I'll check THe string type and gauge tonight and post tomorrow or over the weekend.
