1.
not true of the digital stuff - you just need to open it up and adjust one of the parts inside - can't remember which one but someone on here posted that they'd done it a year or so ago The solid state RB and backline stuff is single voltage AFAIK
Yeah but in the small print opening it up and fiddling with it will void your warrenty!! I prefer the dual voltage switch that alot of recent amp designs have... I'll just wait it out until they start stocking them in 220v this side of the pond...
 2. Yeah trawling the net is grand but GK amps are single voltage, otherwise I would have bought one out of the States already...but 110v there 220 here...
 3. The two heads I'm interested in the MB200 ultralight and the MB Fusion dont seem to be in European retailers yet... unless I'm missing something..
 4. A lovely Rob Allen MB2 Fretless, lusted after one for years then foolishly sold it on and immediately regretted it...still do
 5. Some of the newer GK heads like the MB 200 Ultra Light and the MB Fusion 500 etc are getting good reviews across the pond so I'm wondering where the best deals are this side of the Atlantic. I'm stuck out on the west coast of Ireland and this country is notoriously poor for decent bass gear suppliers so I'm thinking UK being the closest port of call for me.... I like Mark at Bass Direct but he doesnt stock GK...
 6. Tough question My first proper bass is my 89 Stingray and that bass has more gigs under its belt and made me more money than any of the others (6 now), for nostalgic reasons I know its the one I will never part with, plus it actually seems to sound even better with age...magic tone... yep 89 ray for me!!
 7. Love the colour... same as old Norman Watt Roys vintage jazz... good enough reason alone to want it!!!!!! beautiful bass mate...
 8. Yep... you are not wrong there... funk comes as standard with a Pre Ernie Ray
Yep I was told by the guy that runs the musicman.org site that dates on necks/bodys dont need to match and can be written in anything from a pen/pencil to a proper stamp or a bit of crayon whatever came to hand and if that was nothing thats also what they went out with! All versions come with the secret funk recipe hidden inside though
9. Yeah the Rootbeer is very cool and it does have more bottom end grunt than any other Stingray I've played, the Sabre neck has been on there forever as far as I am aware, but maybe you are right... its a perfect match in any case, you get all that lovely Pre Ernie Stingray tone with a VERY sweet and playable neck... I am keen to sell at the moment as I need the money, however if things improve and I can keep her I will...
 10.
Hi folks, I am just interested to know what amps people use for their uprights. I use a Gallien Krueger 150Mb, with a Fishman pick-up (not sure of the model though) both of which I've had for many years, and I am looking for something newer.....any advice or opinions appreciated! Thanks, Col
My GK150MB has served me faithfully since 1993, not with a full DB but an NS electric upright...its getting a bit knackered though and tends to flap out a bit lately so I've been hunting for a replacement. The Acoustic Image stuff gets great reviews from DB players, so I just picked up a used Contra EX cab on Talkbass and I will try my Markbass LMII head to run it at least initially... tiny little cab with a downfiring 10" driver and a front firing 5" driver... havent got it yet but will report what its like when I do (next week hopefully)... EA amplification also seems very popular with double bassists...
 11. Resurrecting this old thread... seems the yanks have this available now in small numbers, first reports are glowing too... I have to say a 4lb GK head with 3 tubes and 500watts is really causing me some GAS problems! I wonder how long it will be before we see them over this side of the pond...ages probably Anyone else curious or even gagging?
 12.
There is some old school funk in this one!
You better believe it! I tried it with flatwounds and its Bernard Edwards all the way!!!
 13.
The bass wouldn't be in sligo by any chance ?
Yep
 14. Fewer gigs and a sudden need to claw back some funds has prompted me to test the water with this very nice bass. Serial number B013133 it is a 79 Stingray in Walnut (Rootbeer) finish, with a rosewood fingerboard Sabre neck. I found this link on the ErnieBall website when I was confirming the date etc. Pre Ernie Anyone who knows Pre Ernie basses will know that Rootbeer is quite a rare find and for whatever reason they always sound great (must be the beer part!!). Seriously it is a cracking bass with tons of punch and an awesome slap tone. I've owned a few Rays over the years and this one has the most bottom end grunt of any of them but also a beautiful sizzly snappy high end... Condition is very clean considering its age, a couple of small lines on the back which havent pierced the paintwork... the string mutes are fairly worn... other than that shes 100%, great frets and neck, a beaut and plays brill, weight is not bad at 9 3/4 lbs on my scales. I hope the pics reflect the great condition the bass is in. Comes with a fairly worn but functional non original hard case... Price is £1380stg which includes shipping to UK or Europe!! 15.
There a solid body version coming out. Maybe that will be a bit cheaper as it might be less expensive to produce.
saw the demo for the solid body on youtube, I still prefer the hollow uke body, it just looks quirkier as a bass! If I let the dust settle on this GAS attack I will probably end up not bothering with the UBass...like all my other whims of fancy
 16.
I've tried a UBass. It felt awful to play and I hated the tiny scale. If you love them, fine, but I think they're just a gimmick.
Wow, thats the first really negative post I've seen on these! I wish I could try one out but that wont happen too soon here in the west of Ireland!
 17.
Well, old news and ongoing news too.
I just know I'm going to end up with one of these...serious GAS
 18.
Several threads on these already: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=ukulele http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=ukulele http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=93168
oops sorry I didnt realise this is old news... oh well
 19. Stumbled across this by accident and now I'm intrigued...Kala UBass.. fair bit of chat about these over on talkbass so I was wondering if anyone closer to home is using a Ubass? I play some trad Irish sessions that this would work great on, just the size and handiness alone is great but they actually sound decent as well in a funny double bassy kind of way...
 20. Bump for a lovely cab still sitting in my garage...
