1. 2 x 12 GK cab with neo speakers so super light-weight. I paid £220 for it new about six months ago from Thomann. One thing i did do when i got it was line the inside with foam to damp it. According to several threads on TB this is a worthwhile upgrade. I actually bought two at the same time but found that one was way more than enough for pub gigs. It's done half a dozen gigs and is in as-new condition (i take great care with my kit). It's in full working order of course and has never been pushed hard. £150 collected or possible trade for small pa speakers (8" or 10") According to GK: 600 watts 8 ohm 100db sensitivity 34 lb weight. The other matching cab will be up for sale in a couple of weeks. Collection is from Rushden in Northants. Damping foam...
2. I recently dropped mine to 7mm between the fb and bottom of the strings. It's super easy to play pizz and slap but i think the tone's suffered. It seems to have lost a bit of punch.
3.
Wow, thanks Bassinmyface, just the sort of answer I wad hoping for, not that I don't appreciate everyone elses. I agree about the clicky being separately controlled, I had wondered if you could put a small passive volume control under the fingerboard for it. I do a bit of slapping but would like to do more which is why I was leaning towards the single with clicky but I'm sure I saw a post with someone saying their bridge PU picked up the string slap quite well. I supposed I could use a big bass and a clicky and merge the signals using my Line 6 X3, you can run two instruments through it and tailor the signals independently, switch the clicky off when not needed.
I'm using a Bassmax, which mounts in the bridge and it doesn't pick up any fingerboard click that i can hear. I had to add a clicky.
4.
Holy moly that's a big box, at least it's well packed. The boss knows about the new bass now, it's amazing you get a such a nice bass for £350 eh ;0)
If she finds out and kicks you out, at least you'll have a big box to sleep in
5. Mine being delivered to work. Those frames with the mail bags hanging from them are about waist height. They packed it with big blocks of polystyrene at each end so the box is HUGE!
6. Congratulations on the bass! My Gedo laminate's excellent for the money, your solid-top's going to be superb. Good luck hiding it! Maybe put a lampshade on top and stand it in a corner? That sort of thing always works in a panto
7. Mine came with some easily-removable tape on the top marking where to fit the bridge.
8. Hiya Charla. They're long enough, but they may be too thick to fit. It's hard to tell from the pictures i've seen online. You might have to file bridge and nut to make them fit.
9. My Spector NSX. Great tone, and i know it was the eighties, but really, what were they thinking? "Lets make a bass that looks a shovel?"
10. As others have said! Put on a song you like with a simple bass line, grab the tab off the net and play along to it. I see no point in learning theory other than the notes on the fretboard till you've got your fingers moving and nailed some basic rhythms. Come back to scales later.
11. These ones: http://www.gedo-musi...?id_product=695 Acoustically they're pretty quiet, especially the E and A. Amplified, they even out nicely and and work well if you're after an old-school thump. Super easy to slap with and (imo) a much better defined tone than whackers, and they hold their tuning. I had them on for about a month and were great for learning slap, but now i need more volume acoustically. They're in excellent condition, haven't been rosined and will be sent in the tin they came with.
12. I lowered my action to a gap of 7mm between E string and fingerboard. I'm finding that with lower action it's easier to match volume between pizz and slap as i don't have to pull the string so hard.
13.
I'd love to give these a try if they're available fairly soon...
They're on their way to you
14. This is my Roadstar2 RB850 fretless. The recent purchase of an upright bass means this and a few other things have to go. I would think it was originally fretted, but the mod has been done really well, presumably professionally. The serial number is L845300 which means it was made in Japan in 1984. I had it set up about 3 months ago by a pro luthier including having the fingerboard planed so it's got a lovely low action. It's got a fair few buckle scratches on the back, and a ding on the front as well as various smaller bumps and bruises. The finish and hardware is all original (including the weird-shaped strap buttons) but the trussrod cover is missing. Both pickups can be switched between single and double coil, and the knobs are blend, volume and tone so lots of tonal options. Playing over the neck pup gives the wah sound, and over the bridge you get more of a fretted tone. The strings on it are flatwounds and they physically last just about forever. They look quite old though and it would probably benefit from a new set. There's no case or bag but i'll make sure it's well-packed if i'm posting it. I'm in Rushden Northants if anyone wants to collect it or just try it out
15. Cheers Daf they're on their way to me so should be all sorted. Thanks for your help
16.
Hmmm Now thats a good idea............... saves all that travel hassle tooo Something more to blame you for!
Hahaha i'm getting used to it!!!
17. I realise i'm about a year late to the party, but is this still going on? I'd like to try them if possible.
18. How about testing the water with an electric upright? It's not exactly the same but it's close enough to see if you like db. You can pick up second hand Staggs for £250 and they hold their value so you can sell it on with little or no loss.
19.
Watching this with interest as I got Alistair's EUB, think the same's gonna happen to me...... loving the EUB, so lets see how long it takes....Oh well Another one to blame Alisatir........:-)
Glad you're enjoying it mate! If you need a way to justify getting a db... you've got two houses so you need a bass in each one!
20. That's a beauty! Really nice finish on it
21. I'm in the process of building an fdeck 'quick and dirty' impedance buffer. Just waiting on one part to arrive in the post and it will be finished 10 minutes later. Total cost about a tenner and an hours work. That should allow me to plug straight into my amp. Might be worth considering if you can wield a soldering iron. Come to think of it, you could do it with spade connectors and terminal blocks. http://personalpages.tds.net/~fdeck/bass/quickand.pdf
