1. That sounds like a brilliant deal. Well played!
 2. Nice one Mr Stingray! I think mine took 3 or 4 working days to arrive so hopefully you'll have it soon
 3.
I may of just emailed Gedo about a half carved bass upgraded with an adjustable bridge and fitted with Spirocore weichs! I 100% blame you Alistair
Haha yeah sorry about that
 4.
How much extra was the adjustable bridge if you don't mind me asking? Adjustable bridge and an ebony board are top of my list as I presume with those features a decent setup including a board shoot would be possible, playable needs to be put before the sound by the looks of things.
We agreed on 820 euros all in. Bass is 585 on their site, different strings were 89, delivery is 95 so that leaves 100 euros for the bridge. Although, they fitted the strings and bridge and it's well set-up so presumably there was some work involved in those changes.
 5.
I think I am swaying towards one from either gedo or thomann at the top of my budget
That was my final choice when i was looking. Second hand would have been great but it was too much of a minefield. I might have got a lot more for my money, or i might have been utterly ripped off. Too risky for me. The warranty and option to return are a big reassurance. If you do go for new, it's worth asking for a discount. Gedo did me about 50 quid off and i just asked politely. A more pushy person would probably have got more.
 6.
I've never had the chance to try one with that cutaway, but I'd have thought that getting into in the 'D' thumb position would be much easier. I've yet to find a pin length or bass angle that lets me do that 100% reliably without the forearm being obstructed. Mind you, grass is greener etc.
Can't really help you with thumb position sorry. How i play, that end of the fingerboard sees as much action as the opposition goalkeeper at an England match. I can tell you that i can play to high B on the G string unobstructed standing alongside it. (not playing thumb position stylee) Standing behind it, doing my best guess at how to play thumb position, i can just start to feel the bass touching my forearm at D#. But, i don't know the correct technique so don't read much into that.
 7.
Is that just a matter of having the post reset then? It is all your fault anyway with your Gedo thread
Well i would have thought so but i'm new to this myself so i'm only going on what i read when i was researching what to buy. I'm sure i read somewhere that the some of the Thomann basses are made by Strunal. I think you can buy direct from them which might be worth looking at. Love the title of this thread btw
 8. Those Archers come up on G4M's Ebay clearance shop quite regularly. Usually a couple of hundred cheaper because the sound post has fallen over or some such. Might be a bargain to be had there.
 9.
Looks really nice, i recently ordered a new case from gedo music and they were really helpful and very quick in delivering it. My only gripe with the bass is that in Thumb position and moving into thumb position wouldn't your arm be more likely to drop? Maybe watch out for bad habits up there.
Cheers! Their service was brilliant. The first email i sent them was at 9pm, in English, and i got a response 20 minutes later. I'm sure you're right about the cutaway. It suits me because all i do is go plonk boom twang in a rock n roll band but i can see how it could be a problem for anything more challenging.
 10.
Haha I've just been through it with the electric upright, spiros at £150, bow another £100 , still need a stand and a few lessons once doddy gets back from his tour! I like the Framus one in the for sale section
That Framus is indeed gorgeous.
 11. Thanks for the comments I'm having a great time with it, i wish i'd bought one years ago.
This is not helping my gas!
I was hoping this would keep my GAS at bay for a few weeks at least. Not so. Now i need different strings, pickups, preamp, case, stand, shades... etc...
 12. Just took the plunge and bought myself a new bass. It's a blonde laminate from Gedo. The cost was £700 all in. It was a bit of a gamble because i hadn't even seen it in the flesh but Gedo seem to have a decent rep for customer service. I've also got a sneaky feeling that the well-respected low-end Thomann stuff is actually Gedo with a mark-up added on. It took just under a week to arrive from Germany. It would have been quicker but i asked them to fit an adjustable bridge and different strings from the stock model and they had to order the bridge. The set-up seems pretty good to me. I know very little about it, but the action seems about right from what i've been reading and the nut and bridge slots are tidy and follow the finger board curve. The finish is what i was expecting at this price. It's rough as a dog from 3 inches away, but beautiful from 5 yards so that's fine by me. The ebony board is smooth with no buzzes or rattles. I've read about some cheap basses having great globs of glue inside etc and i've gotta say there's none of that here. It's obviously finished to a price but it's not hopelessly untidy inside. I got a bow with it, which is, err, definitely a bow. That's all i know about bows. The bag is thin and unlikely to survive more than a week before it falls apart. In fact, i may put the bag inside the bass to protect it. The delivery firm were supposed to call me a day before delivery, which they didn't. The box has a 'tilt sensor' on it which had been activated but it was undamaged inside so nil points for the courier but i got it in one piece and i think Gedo would have sorted out any problems. These negative points are exactly what i was expecting at this price. The bass itself and Gedo's service i'm delighted with. The packing... And the biggest surprise...it fits in a Kia Picanto.
 13. I record however much of the song we've got and hum a few ideas along to it till i get something i like. Then I work out how to play what i've come up with. I find it's easier to be creative if i'm not having to play at the same time.
 14. Hi! I bought this second-hand about a week ago as a way to dip my toe in the water with uprights. Loving it so much i have decided i need to get a db. According to the chap i bought it from, i'm the second owner and it's about 7 months old. He bought it to record a couple of songs and never touched it again. It's in absolutely mint condition and comes with the (also mint) carry bag and the proper Stagg stand. There's no box or instructions though. Although the brand name is Eastcoast, it's the Stagg EDB and not the Rocket brand they use for b-stock models. I paid £250 for it and i'm looking for as close to that as possible. I'm not keen on posting it, and i don't have any feedback on here anyway, but i'd be willing to deliver or meet sort of Northants/Bedford/Kettering type area. Cheers, Alistair.
 15. I had a BC210 for a while and i liked the tone. Got to say though, it was pretty quiet. I would have needed 2 of them to play in my band. This is a good deal atm: http://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_212mbe_8_ohms.htm
 16. For learning songs to play live, i rip the audio track from Youtube. I think that cover bands are actually helping the original artist by reminding people of their songs, which might lead to sales. If it's an album i want for myself, i to buy the cd.
