1.
It's not a Marcus Miller neck sadly, it's just a maple Mighty Mite one. Taking it to the shop to have it fitted on Friday.
Damn, the Marcus Miller neck is simply one of the best ever (for me). I'd buy one just to build a guitar around (especially a precision). Thanks though.
2.
Is there an output for an extension cab on the back? - My money's on a popped transformer.
The ABM combo is effectively an amp with a cab bolted underneath it, the speakers connect to the head via one of the amps speaker outputs. I'll find out when I get a chance to test it.
3.
However, you may not be feeling too Ashdown friendly at the moment.
You may be correct in that assumption :-P
4. I'll test it to see if they're right, but does anybody know where I can get 2 10" bombproof speakers? Bombproof meaning that they can stand up to very mild use.
5. It's 2 years old though, so I'm guessing it's out of warranty
6. According to Ashdown I 'may have blown my speakers' W T F ??? So for 2 years, I change no settings, never drive it too hard, treat it with kid gloves (it lives in a church after all) and then all of a sudden, inbetween uses the speakers blow???
7. Yep, that's pretty much what I'd heard, I fitted stacked humbuckers to resolve a different issue (induction loops)
8. Oh yeah, and where do you order a new neck for a Marcus Miller from?
9. I put Fender Vintage Noiseless ones in, and despite what I'd read they dropped straight in. I only did this to combat the evils of induction loops. I actually never use it active - I'm tempted to take the pre-amp and bits out.
10. I love my Jazz, I bought it because of the neck and decided to learn to live with the sound (I love the P thump). I had no idea what people meant about the Jazz growl for a while.... The first time I made my Jazz growl I thought I'd broken it Now I love it.
11. Guys, I need to put this on hold while I try and find out what's died in my ashdown amp. I may need to sell the zoom to pay for the cost of repair :-( Sorry and thanks for your patience.
12. I'm fairly certain it's something in the power section as I did exactly what you suggested - oh and I'm about to reply to the swops thread amigo :-D
13. Basically it's my church amp, it's about 20 months old and hasn't missed a beat until today. It comes on OK, but the output is barely audible, even with the input levels bouncing off the end stop (and no I don't do this normally). I had no tools to take an peek and ended up running through the house PA with my crappy old zoom bass efects unit (I only use it as a tuner lol). So any ideas while I try and find the wiring diagrams? TIA
14. Yeah the only odd thing was a tatty end to the screatch plate where it meets the control pots plate, not sure if it's a replacement or not, might be worth a second look, once I've fixed my amp (which went pop this morning :-s). It's fiesta red with a rosewood neck.
15. I'm about to buy my Cherry Red EB-0 with Rotosound 77's and a huge thumping great Artec pup fitted if anybodies interested. It's great fun, but I've fallen for my Marcus Miller and play nothing else now. Oh, and it's solid wood, not chipboard etc. :-P
16. Hi Guys, I'ved been offered a Japanese Squier Jazz, Serial number starts with N (and 6 digits) which I'm guessing makes it a 93-94? It's in nice condition with vintage style frets and, for a jazz, quite a meaty neck and it played really nice. The asking price was £175 Does this sound fair? Does anybody know much about them? I've done a search and aside from the usual on the JV's information is a bit scarce. TIA
17. Guys, sorry I've not been back to you, I've been away all weekend and now I'm on a course, only have limited access to the web (via phone) but I will get back to you soon I hope :-D
18. As title guys, I bought it a few years ago (probably 3, so it's out of warranty) with the intention of taking up the guitar again, it never happened, I discovered Bass and the rest is history. I've been meaning to move it on for a while, but my bro has been umming and arring for ages and I can't be bothered to wait any longer. It's a cracking bit of kit and built like a tank, the sounds you can get out of it are amazing and useable (especially for emulating your favourite 6 string players). I'd like to trade it for something bass related, particularly practice wise, so a small (but decent) combo, or something suitable, or WHY? So what ya got? I can take pics, but it looks just like the ones on the web, it's never been out of the house.
19. Zoom G9.2 does the biz. No idea how much they are (mine is sat under the bed as I no longer play gu**ar)
20. Basically I have an Ashdown ABM Evo III 2X10 Combo as my gigging amp, and don't get me wrong I don't dislike it, I like it a lot, but I utterly love my Marcus Miller IV. Used together the Jazz just doesn't sound like, erm, well a Jazz (it does through a cheap effect unit etc.). This isn't an impending gas attack as it is something that will need to happen over a period of time but what kind of amps would you recommend I shortlist that won't colour the tones of my Jazz too much? Im looking for a rig that is portable, can keep up with a fairly quiet rocky blues band without going through the PA and that's about it. I'm not a brand Nazi so I'll try anything and let my ears decide. I know I should get out and try stuff but shops are a bit thin on the ground these days.
21. Bought some Vintage Noisless Jazz Pups from John, very quick, very communicative, resolved a minor hiccup in an extremely speedy fashion. Excellent guy to deal with (good price as well )
22. Well like a lot of guys on here I'm a Church player (amongst other things ) and I have been having a torrid time dealing with induction loops (I play in 3 places with induction loops and have problems in all of them). Having finally found a bass that really suits me (a Marcus MIller IV - mainly due to its awesome neck) I decided enough was enough and it's time to find a way around the problem. The problem being that if I use one pickup on it's own my system picks up the signal from the induction loops and turns my bass into an expensive (and bad) transistor radio (I wonder if Pink Floyd got the idea for the start of 'Wish you were here' from this kind of a problem), also if I run the volume on the bass too high it causes horrible squealing feedback. Generally I run both pickups at very similar volumes, this reduces the problem (as basically I get a kind of humbucking pickup) but I still cant use full volume on the bass or it's major squeal territory and the 'transistor radio effect' is still evident (even to the drummers ears ) I wasn't going to bother shielding the bass - I had done this to a friends strat and he still has a nightmare in Church when he brings it along, although when he borrows my Patrick Eggle Berlin the problem goes away (I keep it for sentimental reasons ). So my first course of action was to try and move my bass as far away from the induction loops as possible and site my amp (Ashdown ABM Evo III 2X10) at an angle to the loop - this helped considerably but the problem was still there and full volume was still a no-no. Last week I bought a set of Fender Vintage Noiseless pups from BB2000 on here (cheers dude) and fitted them (and despite the horror stories I'd read on Talkbass they went straight in - they were tight but went in) and today I used them 'in anger' for the first time. The results were superb - I can now use single pups or any blend I wish (i.e. Jazz tones rather than a general bass sound) at any volume level with no problems (at full volume the 'transistor' effect was still present but was so slight only I could tell - and this was only via a radio mike - historically the worst offender for me). Overall a cracking £50 spent (and 20 minutes to fit them). So if any Jazz bass players out there are after a way to beat the induction loop, I can offer proof positive of one way to do it.
