1.
Thinking about it logically the standard increase in gauge in a set of strings is 20 per 5 semitones (i.e. the D string is 20 thicker than the G). Theoretically then for each semitone you want to tune down by you will need to increase the gauge by 4. Add to this the fact that you are trying to match the feel of a 35" scale neck on a 34" one, I doubt an increase of just 5 per string is going to give you what you want. I'd start off by looking at increasing the string gauge by 10 per string for dropping down 2 semitones (and maybe a bit more for the lowest string since string tension always reduces as the strings get thicker). For dropping down 3 semitones you are going to looking at even heavier gauges.
Good point BRX, who makes 115+ flatwounds though? Thanks
 2. £0.82 per Watt A Markbass LMT 500 for £410 off here 18 months ago, a loyal companion! Is my maths correct then?
 3.
I feel a prescription of La Bella Deep Talkin' flats coming on...
Beat me to it
 4.
Would love to know how people rate these 2x10/12 vert cabs particularly the two TC electronic offerings and the ampeg. really like the idea of taking less space up on stage and having a modular option where i can take one or two cab's to gig, I'd love to know if you stacked four of the ampegs how close they sound to a fridge
I have used a 2x1x12" rmodular rig a lot. Excellent set up. Will soon be ordering a second barefaced midget to complete this incarnation...
 5.
Warning though! If your lackie is tuned standard getting the same tension at lower tunings (on any bass) is going to cause a lot of stress on the standard nut. I tried to achieve this with just going a semi tone down,(using d'addario matching is easy) I ended up using a 120 gauge LOW E and I've cracked two nuts Only through my own dusky though
Thanks for the warning man! I'm going for the classic "Jamerson" set of La Bellas (110-52 I believe) because after some sleuthing I found that these are the ones Pino uses on his drop-tuned basses. The tension probably won't be as high as hoped, as Pino likes lower tension strungs, but I'll see whether D or C# suits best (I'm hoping C#) I'll let you guys know after I take the P back to Steve Robinson (of Manchester guitar tech fame - highly recommended by me) Should be epic. Thanks for all your help, I'll get sound clips up soon enough!
 6.
No, that's a mystery right enough. Incomprehensible.
Pah

 8.
I've also been sacked so someone could get their "best mate" in.
Happened to me the other week. Thing is, I wasn't a huge fan of the music (Wayne Krantz etc.) so it could be worse! The fact that it was done by text was a poor show, lost a lot of respect for a good friend. Hopefully he learns from the experience as much as I have. Just move on, find something else new and exciting. It's what I've done!
 9. Holy crap. My midget just arrived AMAZING Alex Claber, you absolute genius. Unbelivably light with incredible tone. Enough said.
 10.
I would agree with this, really nice natural woody tone achieved.
Are you an evertonian too? My glasses are in the car...
 11. The Wizard "Trad" has been the best for me after trying Lindy Fralin, Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, Fender and Wilkinson P pickups. It also helps that it's only £55
 12.
Get our own obbm to make you up some Klotz cables with Neutrik SILENT jacks, instead. http://www.rock-wire.uk.com/ You won't get better value or quality.
+1 million I'm never buying jacks from anywhere else again
 13.
And wide dispersion....
And a very high sensitivity, disappointly so...
 14.
I thought that was a new model from Alex's workshops....
A solid 12" which is good in the low mids?

 16. My first midget comes tomorrow from the sale section here. Something tells me that I will be ordering a second or a compact from Alex pretty soon... Too damn excited for work today
 17.
The only band I can think of who don't do any of that are NOFX.
Exactly, and this is why I love waynepunkdude, he rivals my love for NOFX
 18. I think we've had a thread like this a few months ago, so I'll just repeat my answer: Fodera with Class D amp and small cab (2x10/1x12)
 19. Thanks guys for all the contributions so far! I knew that it couldn't be an exact science, but what would you guys recommend going for between the standard 760FM (49-109) or their vintage 760M? (even heavier gauge 54, 73, 95, 110) Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks, Alec
 20. I used to be in a function band called The Swamp Donkeys (in-joke)
 21.
Schroeder cabs are loud, light and sit really well in the mix.
You sure do love those Schroeder cabs!
 22. Hey guys, Basically, I currently have a 35" scale Lākland JO5 strung with his signature flats. I'm really pleased with the tension and would like to try and match this with my new bass, a P. However, (here comes the tricky part!) the P is standard 34" scale and I want to try drop tuning it (with flats) to C# or D but want to keep a similar tension to my Lākland. Anyone know how to approach this? I was looking at getting some heavy gauge labellas (like Pino, who inspired me to try this!) but I'd rather not take a £40 shot in the dark! Thanks for any help given!
 23. Epifani cabs are good too! It just so happens that I have one up for sale too...
 24. Price drop to £280 for 24 hours!
 25.
If you like zingy coated strings, try DR Strings. Though it seems roundwound strings have doubled in price since I switched to flatwound.
Yeah, so glad I play flats now. Need to buy a new set of labellas though...
