1. Come enjoy a slideshow of my Series I Alembic Series I 1997 5A Quilt Maple 4 string
 2. The ideal way to transport/protect your EBS HD350 - an EBS-made bespoke 2 rack unit that exactly matches EBS speaker cab coverings. Bought this only two weeks ago as I anticipated buying an HD350, but alas that never went ahead so this is surplus to requirements. Pretty much immaculate with brand new carry handle fitted. £45 delivered, which is what I paid for it. I called EBS the day before I found this to find out how much they were new. £180!!! Ridiculous. how it looks on amp (from EBS website) Pics: PM me if interested
 3.
I would agree with MM20, and say that if you want TC cabs, look at the RS range. I have tried both the RS and BC cabs, and found the RS to be much nicer, (although personally I still probably wouldn't have them myself, as they don't give me the right sound). If you are looking for something lightweight, I would recommend trying out the Hartke hydrive cabs. I would also try and avoid using 2 1x15's as you will most likely get a very wooly sound (especially if one of those is an ashdown ). I find a 410 with a 115 to be a very nice combination
I would buy my lovely TC RS210 (in the amps for sale section) - save yourself over £150 and that will really put a sile on your face
 4.
Bloody hell that was a change! I went from an ABM to the Shuttle which was maybe a Fiesta to a 911 rather than a Zonda but still had to relearn how to play as the mistakes were not so easy to get away with
Yeah it's like having to learn to play all over again lol I chose the TC over the EBS for portability, but (despite having no wattage issues with the TC lol) I have to say tonally the EBS is in a different league.
 5.
Yeah, about the Ashdown comment. I was taking the piss.
Thank God - you scared me a bit there
 6.
Have you been introduced to Ashdown?
Ashdown is woolly rubbish! I went from an Ashdown AMB 500 into an Ashdown 2x10 and 1x15 to an EBS HD350 with two Proline 2x10s and it was like going from a Fiesta to a Zonda. I would never touch Ashdown again. My favourite amp was my EBS because of that glassiness I like, but the TC definitely hits me in my gut much more than you seem to have found: in fact I would say that is the defining quality of the tone - punchy low midrange push.
 7. I don't get it - I personally find the TC has too much punch and whump if anything - what I am missing is the glassy top end. Lots of low frequency bark, not enough top end bite. Great for low mid and low end grunt. Are you sure you didn't have a duff one?
 8.
...but the band and her certainly know how to put on a show (!). (Currently on BBC4)
She's starting to look freakier than Michael Jackson
 9. 30-90 for me. If I can't bend it at least a tone behind the nut I am not interested I also don't like the rounded tone that comes with any heavier strings on the E and A, though I occasionally try 35-55-70-90
 10. I see your point, but surely just by clicking on the post and reading it you have only wasted 30 seconds of your time? You hoped it was a ready made band with gigs set up, it turned out to be a guy setting up a band with high hopes, so you lost interest... not much effort required. Also he may already have a guitarist and a drummer, so it is genuinely a band looking for a bassist as the title says... I mean, this is how all such projects have to start? It's a bit lazy to just think you can stroll into a ready made band with gigs on tap.
 11.
The title says "BAND LOOKING FOR BASS PLAYER". That suggests that a group of musicians already exist, rather than a singer/songwriter looking to form a band.
Are you a bass player looking for a band? Or just a pedant looking to make trouble?
 12. A nice even stone for my 'Bic. Light basses are for pussies
 13.
Hi Paul, names Graeme, you bought my Jaydee Roadie active a while back and i think i bought my Kingbass via you? Remember? Nice to see you on here mate.
Hello Graeme! I remember that - 2007/8?
 14. I just bought a lovely Alembic from a fella in New Jersey, and am hoping to get back into playing now. The beast has such high output I have had to turn down all the trim pots in the control cavity to stop the amp clipping at lowest gain! Lovely tone - came with 40-100 flatwounds, but have switched to 35-90 roundwounds until I can get some proper 30-90 banjo strings on Very happy with it so far.
 15.
Indeed I have a headless 5-string Harlot and am between Farnham and Guildford.
That's not too far - though I was hoping to hear a fretted bass. But if you could spare 20 mins some evening to play it for me and chat about it I would really appreciate that?
 16.
Again, I understand your point. But you're not getting mine If I want a powerful car. It might be because I want it to go fast and be able to pull a trailer. Similarly, I might want an RH450 so could use it as a lightweight 450W power amplifier, with an external pre. In which case, the RH either isn't going to sound as loud as it should, or is going to colour the signal from the pre in order to "sound louder" (depending where in the internal chain TC have put their "pixie dust").
I hear ya. By the way, you are gonna need high torque, not bhp, to pull that trailer But yes I can see your point in terms of signal colouration.
 17.
Hmm, but that's silly. To get back to cars, it's like saying the best test of BHP is how fast the car goes.
Not really, since we are not saying the best test of an amp's wattage is how loud it goes. We are saying the best test of an amp's power is how loud it goes. More appropriately then, your comparable analogy would be 'it's like saying the best test of a car's power is how fast it goes'. Ironically that is as good a real-world test of a car's power as bhp, which is an awful way to test a car's power. Unless it's at the wheel rather than the flywheel. Etc My point is again academic figures versus real world usage. For the end user, 'I want a powerful car' really means 'I want a fast car'. Therefore a car with 180bhp but 0-60 of 6 seconds is preferable to a car with 240bhp and 0-60 of 7.5 seconds. But on paper you would say the 240bhp one is more powerful.
 18.
To poo poo the idea that the power output rating of an amp is relevant when purchasing is going a bit far as well...
I think the point was that the best test of the power output of an amp is your ears rather the number printed on the front.
 19.
Stretch the truth a little bit.
Anyone can do that - it takes a marketer to really tell a whopper with a straight face
 20.
I'd rather marketing people from all manufacturers were made aware that stretching the truth this far just isn't on.
WTF would we do for a job then? lol
 21.
I know its not actually David Cameron with a stopwatch and a jerry can doing the tests
I love this image lol
 22.
But I thought quality would prevail? I just read it.
Pedant alert indeed! People can only test quality once they know about an amp, which is marketing's job. I spoke of quality winning through despite the initial lie, not prior to it By the way, the tagline that mpg figures are 'government tests' merely mean the manufacturers have to follow government test standards for doing the mpg tests in order to publish them, not that the government does the tests - the scope for stretching those standards is enormous. I should know - I used to market BMW
