Being able to adjust lows, mids and highs separately is also very important to me; the mix is way better now. So I'd say: more punch and a more ''accurate" sound (is it the proper word ?). Squier VMJB with Audere J3Z Fender PB Reissue 62 JP Basses Lucii

I own a MM Stingray 5er with maple fretboard. I like the sound and look. Though the maple fretboard gets dirty quite quickly and one can see it, I do not clean it very often.

I own an agathis Squier VM (fretless) and it sounds the way I like.

I had exactly the same goal when I recently purchased my MIJ JB. The pickguard has already been changed and Wizard pickups should be on their way to France within a few weeks. I will keep the original bridge (for vintage/cosmetic reasons) but probably add an Hipshot Xtender to get the low D. The (used) bass was ok when I received it, just the usual dings on the body and head that you will find on almost every Fender bass coming from Japan. The rest showed absolutely no scratch and even the frets seemed to be brand new and unplayed. LOL I have got 3 MIJ Fender basses since the beginning of the year. All were upgraded (or are about to be) and I am now a happy man.

I own several basses and the fretted one I play the most for gigging is a Lakland 55-94 Classic. The fretless one I play the most is a JP Basses Lucii 6er.

Went to your myspace and listened. Interesting things there. Your guitarist is definitely a Zappa/Vai fan, right ? 1984 sounds good. Too bad you have no singer in your band. Is it something you already considered ?

I wish we could do some more Steely Dan stuff but we use to perform as a power trio most of the time (guitar bass drums) and it would probably be difficult for us. The keyboards tracks were added by a good friend of ours (our former keyboard player actually). Josie seemed to be one song that we could manage our way. I used to play ''Black Cow'' but it was 15 years ago with a blues/rock band that splitted after the lead singer definitely found his way in drinking alcohol. Anyway I'll manage to have the band work ''Cousin Dupree" which is a funny song I especially like. BTW, I was lucky to attend to Steely Dan's concert in Paris last month. Those guys are killer musicians !
