  1. Currently trying out Elixir Nanowebs on my Fender and they're sounding good so far. I'm going to stick a set on my 5 string when i have some money. They should sound better than the 20 month old Ernie Balls which are currently on there. A bit more expensive (double the price) than what i'm used to but hopefully they last like they're supposed to.

  2. Had a set of Elixirs on my main bass for a few weeks and i'm liking them so far, though next time i think i may try the stainless steel ones, as i do like a very bright tone. The nickels are still bright, but not entirely what i want, though they do sound good.

  3. Our Helical Mind feature masses of effects work from BC'er Shep (Pantherairsoft) who's mahoosive pedalboard you've probably seen if you've looked at the pedalboard thread.

Just found out, they only did 150 worlwide <_<

And i know the guy that has #4 of those 150. They are beautiful basses, there's no doubt about that.

    Lia,

  5. I've got it on at the moment, brilliant as usual so far, but i think they may've played Grenade just that bit too fast. The gearstalker in me wasn't expecting to see a Mesa Boogie stack back there either, looks like an M Pulse and 2 PH410's i think.

  6. The Hillsboro's are lovely basses to play IMO. I used a Hillsboro J at a college audition i once did and although it needed a set up, it felt nice and balanced really well. I have mad gas for the Eric Bass model at the moment.

  7. All of those do pretty good approximations of a Stingray, and the actual Musicman SUB Basses (Not the new Sterling by Musicman SUB ones) are some of the best you can get for that kind of price. I've also been told that the Dean Hillsboro does a pretty a good approximation too, but haven't had chance to try one myself yet.

  8. A few years back my band played in Standard, Drop D, D Standard and Drop C. We each had our own methods, lead guitarist just tuned up and down as necessary. The rhythm guitarist swapped between D standard and Drop C, then used a capo for the E standard and Drop D stuff, then i just went the complete lazy method and got a 5 string. If i didn't use a 5, i'd have gone for multiple basses for certain. It makes more sense, and it's easier. Means you've always got a spare too.

  9. Shouldn't have any problems using that combination at all. I expect it might sound rather nice as well, but nobody knows that unless they've tried it. What Mr Foxen above me says is true though. A pair of vertically stacked 2x10s will be better than a 4x10, but people still use 4x10's and like them so...

The place I buy it from sell it at £6 a meter. There are 5m in the sealed box and they give you 10% off if you buy a box - so I got 5m for for £27. That's ALOT. Unless you are a total pedalboard whore like me, using a sensible amount 5m should last a lifetime.

At first i thought that was really expensive, but it's not as bad as it seems. I paid £14 for 2m of the Velcro branded stuff (Which was sh*te, but it wasn't the heavy duty stuff) so £6pm isn't that bad. I could see 5m lasting me beyond a lifetime, seeing as all i have is a PT Nano.

My best suggestion is just listen to Shep. He uses more of the stuff than Pedaltrain do.

  11. Only Ashdown gear i've ever had issues with were a pair of MAG series 1x15's which were just all low end and hardly any top, and their tiny practice amp which couldn't take the output from my bass with any sort of usable sound. All the rest i've used has been great, though it was all ABM stuff.
