1. I wont use anything else now, on guitar or bass. I'm only on my first set of each, but the set on my acoustic have been on since March, and the bass since May, and they still sound good enough for me to be willing to record with them, though they are going to get changed rather soon.

Edit to say that i've just ordered a set of 45-105 nickels on Amazon for £31, which is a LOT cheaper than anywhere else i've seen.

2. My bands vocalist did a stretch on bass with his uni band whilst we were on our year long break, so since coming back he has a new outlook on what i actually play and one of the EP songs has actually been written around the bass track, which is abnormal for us. It certainly helps having someone who's been there and done it. Our guitarist played bass for a few years before swapping to lead and getting me in.

Hi there,

Newbie in the IEM world have questions about IEM wireless systems for you the experts !

I understood the IEM part is the most important part.
So for those who bought ACS IEM, T1 Live or T1 seem to be a great choice.
Did you make your ACS IEM custom with molding it to your ears ?
Or ACS is selling top of line IEM as standard without molding ?

Another point is I cannot make a decision about the frequency range for the IEM wireless systems.
Wireless systems like the Shure PSM900 or Sennheiser EW 300 IEM G3 seem to become obsolete as frequencies are used or reserved through time for other applications.
How make a decision about a wireless system according to the frequency range ?
This would be a shame a 1 Grand IEM wireless systems would be not usable after a few years only.

Last but not least :
AKG released the IVM 4500 wireless system in 2012, as Shure released PSM 900 in 2011 and Sennheiser EW 300 IEM G3 in 2009.
The're all in the same price range.
Shure PSM 900 seems to be a winner... but why buying an 2 or 3 years old product when the newest seems to be the better as transmitting sound through wireless required the best technology available ?

Thanks a lot,

ACS T Series are only sold as custom moulds as far as im aware, and i don't think you should have too much trouble with any of those 3 systems. The Sennheiser still seems to be a touring standard, and i believe (though he'll correct me if i'm wrong) that EBS_freak uses the Shure PSM900 system and highly rates it. The latest wireless tech is all moving toward digital stuff, which isn't adequate for IEM's at the moment due to latency issues as far as i'm aware.

4. Is it actually possible to use taptalk or is that only feasable with the software that sites such as Talkbass uses (vBulletin), because BC uses IP Board, and i've only ever seen taptalk with vBulletin. I don't really have any opinions on the mobile site as i never use it (Always use the full one on my tablet) but i just wanted to throw that thought in there.

I had a ZX Spectrum - that WAS cool!

I've still got a working one!

Mine was a rather dire p bass copy that had a broken jack socket and antique strings. The school i worked in just after i left school had a couple of Squier Affinity P Basses that they used, and an early 80's Japanese Fender fretless jazz bass that sat stored away, missing strings and never touched. I tried to get 'em to let me have it but it didn't work.

6. De solder the pickups, remove the entire thing, and then throw in one of KiOgons solderless looms. That way you can just pull it out and throw the active EQ back in if needs be. That's the simplest way of doing things, and what i did with my Ibanez.

7. A collection of Sparkly (Metalflake) hollowbody T-basses, with F hole, one piece maple necks with LED's matching the body colour. some H, some HH (with quad coil pickups and coil splits to make it a PJ). Passive on the H and East preamps in the HH. All hipshot hardware in satin.

8. Anything made by Rotosound. I've got a set of Swing Bass upstairs that spent about 10 minutes on my P bass. I have a set of Picato flatwounds that don't even sound dire, because they don't make enough of an audible sound, just a thud, and then the last set of Ernie Balls (whose strings i used for many years) died after 6 days, so i changed to Elixirs.

Reminds me of Shep's old two tier ginormo thing, could have done with hinges on that thing to get to the under side stuff.
Very tidy that one mate.

I think what made it easier with Sheps was that it was so big, so there was plenty of room to get hands under, which there isn't with something so small.

Some gorgeous boards on here, can't wait till i find a job and can get mine built up the way i want it to, whatever that may be when i get around to it.

10. Some places i've seen are selling Stingray 4H's for anything up to £1500 now, where i remember a few years ago they were usually around £1250 in most retailers, so that's probably had some effect on the pricing. Even so, £800 for a Stingray 4 in good nick is still a damn good price if you ask me.

oo, nice! £48 on amazon compared to the price of a set-up from any shop doesn't seem so bad <_<
Only £40 from GAK. I tend to do most things myself, as i can do it when i want, how i want. That being said, i think i'll be taking my main bass for a 'proper' job soon as i think it needs a fret dress.

12. The Alma Inn in Bolton has a tiny stage area. It probably doesn't help that being a metal venue, the stage is taken over by a huge kit, 2 4x12's and a massive bass rig. I also remember SanSan Studios (After they bought it from when it was Soundhouse and ruined it) having a pretty small stage in sections that moved a lot the first time we were there. They'd made it bigger the next time, but it still moved.

I usually use 45-105 (elixirs). Are they considered heavy gauge?
They aren't considered that heavy (IMO anyway) but I find that Elixirs do have a higher tension/lower compliance than others for the same string gauges. Maybe try one of the 45-100 or even 40-95 sets?
