Over the years i've found that i can ad-lib more with a very technical or busy drummer but with my current bands i just learned my bass parts and play them but we do sometimes coincide on some bass and drum runs which is always fun. With some bands i seem to lead on the rhythm section and others i'm happy to follow the drummer. Swings and roundabouts. Don't think i have any great preference just different. Maybe i just do an auto-sync with the drummer without realising it and don't spend a lot of time analysing how a band works. If it works leave well alone Dave

Some songs just need that little bit of edge. That's the way i've gone. I now only dig in for 4-5 songs in the Glam set and the rest i play a bit softer. I've done similar with the Punk band but so many raunchy songs its difficult to curb my enthusiasm. Dave

If the band was in existence before i joined i don't have any issues with the name staying if i leave. Historically for me tif he band folded that was the end of it and the name was never used again by any member. However if i just chose to leave then the band continued with the same name and i'm ok with that. I guess a good example of this causing issues is Pink Floyd when they disbanded and David Gilmour ended up with the name even tho he wasn't a founding member. He did bring in Mason and Wright which then gave him a better argument for retaining the name but i believe many if not most song ideas in the early days were from Roger Waters. (correct me if i'm wrong ?) Dave

Did a quick search and from what i can find Duracell come out as reliable and longer lasting than any other battery. Leakage is similar or less than other mfrs. I did come across Energiser Max batteries with a guarantee that any equipment damaged by them will be replaced by Energiser. They also do Lithium 9V batteries that have an even less risk of leakage. Looks like i might start using Energiser max or Lithium batteries. The Energiser Lithium batteries have a 10 yr shelf life. A Duracell battery has a 5 yr shelf life from what i've seen on line. Dave

I always check the date on them. The ones i've just removed are dated 01/28 altho i'm not sure the production date so they could have been lying on a shelf for 10yrs. To be fair i've not had any issues in that respect. According to google search they have a shelf life of 10-12 yrs. Dave

Yep fair point. I'm testing off load with a multimeter. I appreciate a battery voltage can look good with a multimeter but under load that battery can fail. I've had that with vehicle batteries. Using a load tester is definitely the best way to check but as a basic guide its a simple check. If i tested my vehicle battery with a multimeter and it was reading 10V instead of 12V or above i'd be worried that something isn't right so as an initial test its fine to use a multimeter. Most people wont have a load tester but i just checked Amazon and they only cost circa £5 so might be worth getting one. Have to say i've never experienced a 9V PP3 battery to show a 9.5V on a multimeter but then fail under load. I only use Duracell batteries in my gear. Dave

It obviously depends on the circuit they are being used in. One of my basses starts distorting slightly at 8.0V and because of that i give myself some leeway at 9V. Mainly because i do forget to check the voltage on a regular basis. Batteries tend to last quite a long time on my basses tho. Minimum 1 yr. Possibly depends on how often i use that bass tho. I've also had issues with effects pedals that i occasionally use with batteries and when i check the battery its in the low 8V area. Rather than take a risk i just change them at 9V or below. Dave

I might invest in some gel insoles. Not sure about anti-fatigue mat but i'll do a search to see what they are all about. Cheers for that. Dave

Can you not get a battery tester and check the voltage. If its below 9.1V its replaced but if above that it stays for a bit yet. I normally get around a year out of a battery in my Sandberg VM4. I only use Duracell 9V batteries. A new battery should be 9.6V or above. Also check the dates on your batteries when you buy them as they could have been lying on a shelf for yrs. Dave
