That's an unusual finish on a MM Very nice indeed. Dave

Those kind of stages are why i always use my gramma board nowadays no matter what kind of stage. It means i can virtually keep the same amp and bass settings for every gig. Worth every penny i paid 2nd hand. Dave

When i was looking into this i did wonder why not just raise the full neck pocket with a flat shim of card or something rather than a wedge shim or even a narrow shim at back of neck pocket. ? That way you get the additional height without any risk of neck warping ? I appreciate the full flat shim would need to be thicker than a wedge shim because of angles but would it be a problem ? Dave

Went to school with Doogie White (ex-Rainbow vocalist) While rehearsing in studios we had a guy put his head in the door and say the band were amazing and he was loving all the Glam rock songs. He was the sound guy for Steely Dan who were in testing their PA gear prior to the start of their tour in Glasgow. They were in the studios for a week and on that day some of the musicians from Steely Dan arrived. Our guitarist at the time was a huge fan and new their names but i had no idea who they were. Also got a good morning from Justin Currie of Del Amitri in same studios while we were arriving he turned up at door on his mountain bike. Played pool with Phil Lynott in our local venue The Heathery Bar. He even bought his fair share of rounds. Really liked big Phil, an absolute gent and such a nice big guy. Phil Collins bought me lunch (coffee and sandwiches) while we were waiting for autographs back in 82. When he came over he said that the staff in the hotel thought we were with the band and didn't ask us to leave so he bought us coffee and sannies in the lounge area just to keep up appearances. Offered us free tickets for the show but we had ours already. Such a true gent. Our drummer who played in Glitter Band during the 90's was brought up in same street as Steve Priest from Sweet and even got some drum lessons from Mick Tucker. He even got a lift home from the pub in Steve's RR. When he first knew Steve he was just the older kid in the street that played bass in a band. He has some great stories from the Sweet early years. That's what i did with my Sandberg MarloweDK that had exact same issue. I checked out so many youtube clips and asked advice on here as well as TB and this was the recommended repair by majority. Worked a treat. Dave

Wisnae me. Have to say we were well looked after and we left our gear in the venue until following morning and several folks that were at the gig came down to say hello, gave us a hand loading the gear and wished us all well when we actually left. If memory serves me right i think it was a bit of a bikers pub. Dave

I played The Wheatsheaf back in the mid 80's. That was the one in Dunstable ? Happy days touring with a broken leg. Dave

I try to remember that but sometimes when you post regularly you do forget so a nice wee reminder every now and again is always appreciated @Mickeyboro Dave

That's superb Marc. Its great when a company has an input on our BC forum. It makes a big difference to buyers when they have someone they can talk to. I just hope you don't get bogged down in messages now Many thanks Dave

Its not a job i would tackle myself hence the question. Dave

what glue does a luthier use when replacing a nut ? Dave

Good job i've got one, cause i'm at the front of my best mate @Cuzzie's queue. Dave

yep that does seem like a good description of the tone but i do like it. Just means i need to boost the Hi-mids a bit on the amp. Dave

Maybe i've got it round the wrong way. That's highly possible as i've never had a bass with a series parallel switch in such a long long time. That would make more sense as i vaguely remember someone mentioning that you can do that with a jazz bass by fitting a switch giving more depth. Dave

Our singer normally does all the bookings and he would definitely charge more if a venue wants us to be there longer than the 2 x 1hr sets. If on the night we decide to play more because we're enjoying it so much we just go for it until we run out of songs. I have pushed hard for both bands to stick to just 2 x 1hr sets but its difficult when your guitarist just wants to play all night every night. Dave

100% me too. Dave

Saw them a few yrs back supporting Deep Purple i think it was. Great band and didn't even know they were still going. Dave

Oh yes you are a cool dude on stage Daryl. Sure i've mentioned it to you over the years plus i hope i look that good at your age. Nice one Dave

Loving the outfits there guys. That's more like my style of Glam outfit. Nice one. Dave

I think we are in very similar situation with our bands Daryl altho i wasn't to begin with when i started on BC but how things change Once you get used to the income its harder to walk away from it. Dave
-
You didn't mention the money side of it but we would price appropriately. We always quote 2 x 1hr sets as our typical show but we are always prepared to accommodate the venue. If venue is ok with it we will do 2.5hr show with one 15-20min break. Dave

Hopefully not a permanent thing and you can get back to full gigging fitness again. If not do what i did when i had a temporary shoulder/back issue i bought a Gruvgear duo strap. Worked pretty well and once shoulder was ok i used the main part as a single strap. Still using it several yrs later. Dave

100%

I'd be ok with it if i was getting the 3 extended breaks but it does become a long day especially when you add travel time and gear set / dismantle time but yes i'd do it. Dave

When i joined BC playing in bands was purely a hobby for me. That was quite a few yrs back. Since retiring early i started playing more seriously with the bands i was part off. When i finally got the Glam covers band going i was kinda hooked into playing both for enjoyment and the income was certainly useful. Now i'm quite annoyed if the fee isn't what i'm used to. The number of gigs i'm doing in a year doubled in 2023 and has tripled for this year but it still feels more like a busy hobby for me and i'm happy with that. I have a lot more respect for musicians like Daryl @Bluewine who earn a living from playing. Its not an easy job to take on making sure the gigs are there every weekend. I can see it being quite stressful in that respect so all credit to all the guys earning a fulltime living from gigging. My respect to you all. Dave
