  1. I've ended up with Elixir nickels and now have them on 4 of my basses. First set i tried lasted 7 mths before i noticed they were starting to fade a bit in tone but i reckon i could have managed another month. The bass is the one i use the most and has had a lot of sweaty glam rock nights since fitting. I had Elixirs on my Warwick Thumb and they've been on that bass since 2010 and they still sound ok but that bass is rarely used and never leaves the house these days except for the odd studio visit. At the moment i'm quite happy with them and they don't seem to have the higher tension i remembered from their early days when they first appeared. At £50 quid a set they do last well and at 7 mths i would be on my 3rd set of D'addario nickels ready to go for my 4th set soon. Dave
  2. Good quality cable too but cable damage can happen to the best of them. I'm still hoping its a simple fix for you. All the best Dave
  3. Oooohhhhh you've convinced me. I want one too. Dave
  4. Out of curiosity what speaker cables are you using ? If the speaker cable is ok and its still happening it could be the jack socket in the cab. Does it have a double jack socket on the cab. If still happening try the other jack socket see if its ok. Failing that its down to the speakers i reckon. My next step would be remove the speakers or if you have access to them from the back of the cab to check the soldered connections on the speakers themselves. If all that is checked and seems ok then you may have to take the cab to a repair shop to do some in proper checks of the cab. Dave
  5. Ah sorry my mistook. Could be worth opening the jack to see if cables are all securely attached and soldered joints are ok. Failing that maybe the jack socket on the cab has dodgy contacts ? Just throwing ideas into the pot see what comes out 👍 Dave
  6. Open up the speakon connectors and tighten up the terminal screws. I've had this with PA speakon leads. A loose connection screw on a cable could open circuit with vibration. I know we should all routinely check our cables but we don't Let us know what you find. Curious now. Dave
  7. Out of curiosity what actually happened with the amp/cab when it failed. What were the symptoms. Might help us BC'ers to advise where to look. I bought the tester from Amazon yrs ago. Works off a 9V battery but the battery lasts for well over a year as its not something you will use much until a cable fails. Here's the new version of mine with added computer cable testing by looks of it at £61. 8. I find cables are usually the first port of call when things happen or don't happen 👍 Hopefully that will be the issue. I bought a cable tester few yrs back where you plug both ends in and it detects the fault for you. Does jack, xlr and speakon. Handy bit of kit. To be honest i have an electronics / electrical background and happy with my trusty old multi-meter. Dave
  9. Sure i saw a Matt Black 4003 on Facebook few days ago. I'll have a wee look see if its still there. Dave Nope its gone. Sorry !! Dave
  10. Brilliant when a plan comes together Dave
  11. I love the idea of this tone but if i switch of the GAS filter and look at what i'm doing in my own bands its all 1970's covers either in the Glam or the punk bands. My Ampeg SVT7 thru my Mesa cabs does give me that old style tone but there are times i could do with that clearer mid to high tone cutting thru a bit. Dave
  12. I might look into that as some areas i stand the bass tone fades a bit. I know that's quite normal in most cases but it would be great not having it. Dave
  13. That's a happy and sad moment. Always look on the bright side of life. When one door shuts the pub door opens. Dave
  14. Depending on the gig size i would normally have my wee Markbass Ninja head on top of whatever i'm using as a main amp just in case. Always have twin cabs so even if a cab goes down i'm still covered. Dave
  15. Well deserved break always brings you back refreshed and raring to go. I've nothing planned for hols this year again but will probably just do some days away somewhere for a wee bit of fast car fun probably up into the Highlands area of Scotland where roads are a bit more quiet. Dave
  16. I think i see a hint of a smile there Daryl. Dave
  17. That's nice. What's the 5/10 label about ? Dave
  18. You'll be fine. 👍 Plan it out and it will all fall into place. Dave
  19. keep us posted on outcome. Dave
  20. Blondie One Way or Another we do in the punk band. Speed it up towards the end and keep speeding it up until the dancers can't cope. Its so funny to watch from the stage. I do enjoy a bit of fun at a gig. Ozzy & Queen songs are a great choice. Dave
  21. So that's where i went wrong Dave
  22. As i got older i wished i had found a better teacher to take me further into the theory. Not that i needed it for what i was doing but more from a learning point of view. Its been one of my life regrets that i didn't take lessons further but when a teacher says he can't teach me anymore after 18mths you tend to think that's it i know it all ............ and then yrs go by and you realise the guy was a numpty. I have considered going back even at 63 yrs old but youtube and social media can offer you so much these days. Dave
  23. 100% agree. When my first proper rock covers band packed in i decided to listen to a lot of Jazz or Jazz-rock style music mainly because i enjoyed it but i found it was helping my technique and i was able to play a lot faster. This was all done by ear tho and just playing along to albums at home. The lessons allowed me to know and understand the basic scales etc and i was bale to follow the songs a bit easier. I did that for 3 yrs before mates asked me to join a rock covers band doing 50% originals and covers of AC/DC, ZZ Top and Free. I seemed to go from one end of the bass spectrum to the other Bass playing has definitely changed over the years tho and some of the new players i simply can't copy their technique. Its beyond me. I watch cclips on youtube and i'm in awe of what these guys can do now but most i look at have studied bass theory to the extreme. Dave
  24. And back to the original question, what does the OP @Cheeto726 think so far. ? Have you been swayed either way. Dave
  25. Happy Days Dave
