I didn't restart playing in bands until i hit 50. I've been in a few originals bands but more prog than indie. They didn't come to much to be fair and then the Glam covers band came up with like minded guys and its just getting bigger and bigger since pandemic. I'm 63 and going strong albeit in covers band. I just enjoy gigging a lot more now than i ever did but i would have taken on almost any style of band to get experience after such a long lay-off Appreciate you want to keep at the Indie originals bands but my main point is that age is not a barrier for any style of bands these days. Keep at it @Alfie something else will come up or you could leave it a week or two and talk with the ex-band members to see if it can reconciled or those on same outlook as you can put something together. All the best Dave

Priorities are spot on. Everyone should stick by this list even non-musicians will learn a lot from it. Just listening to music as No4 can be relaxing and give a huge amount of enjoyment. Well done. Dave

Does it have a bit more zing from the maple fretboard. ? Dave

Ooohhh that is very nice and oddly enough you had a space on your wall just for a Ric bass. Enjoy and have fun. A Ric bass is on my "to do" list altho i did have one briefly in 80's but it didn't work in the band i was in at that time. Dave

Do you mind if i ask what tuners you went for as my Vintera P bass tuners are pretty rubbish to be honest. Are the replacements a direct fit for the originals. Dave -
You're doing good sir and don't look anywhere near your age so stop worrying about it and just enjoy the music. Age is just a number and when it comes to Blues bands age is a bonus. Dave

Superb Daryl, love that song too. Band sounds fantastic. Now when you're up there can you get me an order of fries from the kitchen. See what you mean with the kitchen behind you, that just looks a bit weird plus there are people doing kitchen type things in background. So odd. Do like Maple Road and wish i could see you guys live. Dave

I'm guessing you've tried all the usual sites for musicians wanted. Facebook, Gumtree, Join My Band, Bandmix are all my usual haunts altho i've not used them in 5 yrs now since forming my current group with like minded musos. Dave

Or maybe you just play fast Dave

I'm approx 1-2 hrs drive to any gig because i live in countryside. The Glam band has costumes and make-up to be sorted before playing so that takes approx 30-45mins. We tend to arrive 2hrs before doors open and have a costume change at the break so on our feet usually from the get go. Only time i sit down is to put my Glam boots on and sometimes i need to stand for that bit too. Dave

People don't appreciate that for some bands a gig is a 10-12hr day for the band if travel is included even when gigs are reasonably local and its a standard band venue. Possibly longer for wedding bands who need to set up before the happy couple arrive and are there until the end of the night. Dave

Sounds like it could be a good set list with Brown Sugar and Hotel Caledonia. Enjoy hearing a band cover an eagles song or two as they aren't that common these days. Great that your wife enjoyed herself too. Anything that can bring a little relief for a spell must be good for her. All the best for 2024 Dave Enjoyed reading your post.

I hope so. Dave

$100 tip aint too shabby. Maybe we should start a tip jar for our bands. Not something i've ever seen over here in Scotland altho i know some bands do it. Dave

That's quite a good idea to mark certain songs to be cut in the event of time restraint. Think i'll suggest that with our band rather than decide / debate on the night and everyone getting confused what to play next. Dave

Your comment and @Obrienp just reminded me from last night when singer announced a song by Roxy Music and for some odd reason i thought we were doing Lets Stick Together and started on the A after the drum count and low and behold it was Virginia Plain as per our set list that i provide everyone. I quickly realised my mistook and went straight into Virginia Plain but i did get a fair bit of ribbing at the break as i gave the guitarist a ribbing few weeks back for starting it in wrong key The joys of live music. I quite like the tone from flats but i need to slide a bit in some songs and i find the flats burn my wee dainty fingertips. Dave -
Happy New Year to you and yours Pete. Dave

We've found some pubs are just not advertising their events and when we turn up its pretty sparse. I blame the venues for it altho we do advertise on our FB page and a few local gig guides for the area we're playing in but its the pub regulars you want in and if they don't know the band or see the adverts for who's on its a bit of a disaster. I'm assuming your other gigs are well attended and this is a fluke and a one off. What kind of music are you playing ....... just curious ? Sure things will be back to normal for the next gig. Dave

Last nights Hogmanay gig with BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam covers band went pretty well. Lot better than we all expected at Westlands Country Club in Annan. We were simply advertised as BLOCKBUSTARZ but no pics and no mention of being a 70's Glam covers band. Singer overheard a couple of guys saying they hoped this wasn't going to be a guitar rock band all night. When you have guys turning up with tweed and wax cottons on it doesn't look good for the night. Majority of people had no idea who the band were and the look on their faces when we walked in was a treat and several bottom jaws needed to be pushed back up in place. It was very slow to start but we did have a row of kids sitting in a line on the floor directly in front of us who seemed to be having a great time. We did notice a lot of cameras being used and we did get decent applause and cheers after each song but the dancers didn't really start until a few songs into the 2nd set. and by the end of the night floor was full. We finished our set at 11:45 to allow for a piper to bring in the bells. As we finished the organiser came up and asked if our singer could bring in the bells and announce the piper. Not part of the contract but we obliged and the young piper took us up to and thru the bells. Organisers were pleased with how the night went and thanked us for a great night. We did the usual requests for songs that had nothing to do with 70's Glam Rock and even for a song to dance the slosh too but unfortunately we dont do that. Home for 2:30 for my usual coffee and biccies. At least the roads were quiet on way home. Think i saw about 3 trucks and 2 cars on M74. Back up for hungry cats at 8am so a wee bit tired. Only the pre-gig dressing room pic at moment Dave
