TBH i just went with what Warwick recommended. It wouldn't take much to put an EMG pre-amp in but would it still sound like a Warwick Thumb ? Dave
-
I think the only changes i've made over the many years are :- 1. Warwick Thumb NT pre-amp failed. Warwick no longer produce the original EMG version and could only offer the MEC pre-amp. I had a luthier install it for me. Perhaps i should have gone for a new EMG pre but no matter it still sounds like the same bass. 2. Fender Mex PJ bridge mainly because the original saddles kept dropping and moving about. Put a fender hi-mass bridge on. I have kept the original and will sell with the bass. Don't think it would have made any difference to the sale price. I also prefer buying standard original gear. You never know how a modified bass is gonna sound or whether or not the mods have been done to a decent standard. My one exception would be a Stingray with a Status graphite neck but would want to try it first. Dave

I quite like the 210 combo that you can tilt backwards or stand straight up. Means i could actually hear the bass on stage. Also noticed that MB are producing more powerful amps these days with up to 1000W. Dave

That has to be one of the weirdest back-drops i've ever seen at a gig Dave
-
Did you select this one because he uses a MB rig Dave

I thought they were quite a high quality bass Pete. I've never tried a Sadowsky bass and don't really know much about them. Dave

Nice one Rob. I recently had a look at the Rithimic bass too. It gets great reviews. Also got a notion for an Xotic J4 but a bit more expensive. Had the MB 121 combo and ext cab few yrs back. It was an odd thing but standing next to it i found it sounded weak but move out into FOH and it was right there and fitted really well into a 70's Glam cover band with guitar and keys. Having listened to Joe Dart a few times recently i sometimes think i want that MB sound he gets. I think Allain Carron also moved over to MB too. Look forward to hearing some sound demos and a full NBD review would be nice. Have fun and enjoy. Dave

Especially if dropped on your toes. Dave

Huge respect there sir. 👍 Dave

100% when i saw them on that tour in Glasgow i just couldn't believe how 3 guys could produce that level of complexity. Just 3 cool looking guys having great fun doing what they do best. I really liked the idea of their concept albums. I just got lost in their world while listening. Probably reading more into it than i should but at 18yrs old your imagination runs wild. 🤩 Dave

Is that the all valve 44Kg amp head ? Did you hire a forklift to get it in position atop of those amazing bass cabs. Dave
-
Looks like they are going to run it to the end of the year and after the Hogmanay gig that will be it, unless they manage to change my mind before then. 🤩 Dave

And doing a grand job Daryl. Dave

T-shirt with Road Crew - Bass Tech is my suggested move.

I think that's how i feel about it. At 64 i don't feel i'm anything special but usually they just love the show. Dave

We do regularly get asked for photos with the full band after the last song so it kinda goes with the territory in a Glam band. Its always fun doing it to be honest and gives you a bit of a buzz. I've even been asked out on a date a few times while wearing the full Glam gear but had to say my wife sitting next to the stage wouldn't be too pleased Oddly enough i regularly got people talking to me with the punk band. Dave

Glad to hear it went well up this way Pete. Looks like a decent sized venue and crowd. Dave
-
I'm the opposite and would quite happily wait in the changing room until the venue is empty and then strip down my gear. With the Glam band most people don't recognise me when i walk out to strip down my gear. Maybe i should get a band t-shirt with "Road Crew" stamped on the back. Dave

Always thought Duran were a great band with some amazingly talented musicians. The Taylor brothers were very talented Dave

I tried them in Guitar Guitar when they came out and was hugely surprised just how deep and full they sounded. Dave

Look at it this way Daryl, he chose to talk with you. He went for the main man in the band. Maybe they all just assumed you were younger than you are. Personally i would never have guessed your age mate. Only as young as the partner you feel (trying to avoid the PC police attacking me if i used "woman" terminology) Dave

Funny how us bass players end up with the PA cabs to set up and take down. I even store the larger QSC 3-way 15" PA cabs we use. I even transport them to and from gigs in my car. Its a large estate (station wagon to to Daryl ) Volvo V90. I also strip down all cables while drummer does his kit. I load my own bass gear into my car first and then come back for the PA and lights. My wife goes to all my gigs where acceptable with venue and she usually gives me a hand with heavier gear plus she's great at coiling leads. She goes to the gym with me and can almost lift same as me so that's a bonus Dave

Or go IEM if its possible then no amp / cab to carry to gigs. On saying that i do prefer having my rig behind me. Mine is all lightweight with cabs only 20Kg each (44 pounds to you Daryl) Dave

Looks like a nice venue Daryl, decent stage and large room with a view albeit the car park Dave
