Strings again !!! could use some help / advice
dmccombe7 replied to dmccombe7's topic in General Discussion
Think these are the strings i was searching for the info on other threads. Flats that sounded like rounds is what i recalled in my head but couldn't remember the name of them. I've tried heavier strings before and just couldn't get used to them. Really appreciate your offer tho. Shows we have some nice people on BC. Dave I'll have a look at them and see what it says about them but i thought they were more like original flats than rounds but could be wrong there. Dave -
I know we've discussed strings many many times on BC and i've searched thru 3 pages of string topics and couldn't find what i was looking for. I'm using La Bella low tension flats on my Sandberg VM4 and i really like the feel of them compared to the nickel wounds. The problem i have is that in some songs they just don't carry enough bite, growl or edge like a round wound. I've also checked out half rounds or ground wounds on youtube clips but i'm guessing they don't last as long as flats Is there an alternative string that you can recommend. (I play finger style with 40-100 gauge.) 1. Feel of flats or easy on the fingers 2. more zing or hi end like rounds 3. last longer than 2-3mths like round wounds i've used 4. similar tension to the La Bella low tension flats My apologies for repeating something we've discussed before but i did try searching before posting this one. Are Amps and Cabs still a thing moving forward?
dmccombe7 replied to dmdavies's topic in General Discussion
Gigs i play can vary from pubs to decent sized venues but i always like to have my own amp and cab behind me. I normally go DI from my amp post EQ as that's what most sounds guys have asked me for which always surprises me. I've found that gives me a similar sound FOH. I guess if you have a decent pre-amp to FOH you're getting the same thing thru IEM. I've never used IEM altho our singer swears by them. I think i'm just old school and used to doing things a certain way. Younger people accept change more easily so if i was in your position i'd certainly give it a try without the backline. In late 80's in a 3 piece cover band i was in where drummer had Simmonds kit and guitarist used a guitar synth i stopped using my backline when one of the 210 PA cabs went down and i put my 210 in to replace it. I was surprised how easy it was to hear myself from the PA and monitors so played that way for about 4 yrs straight into a DI pedal. Dave -
Used to really enjoy doing these.

Another brilliant band from my younger days. Fantastic bass player and great showman. First time i'd ever seen a bassist bend the neck for effect when he was playing. Another classic album @Bilbo Thanks for this one Dave

Watched the 2112 / Moving Pictures documentary couple of nights ago and it was very entertaining with Neil offering quite a fair bit of insight into his lyrics. Dave -

I bought it for a Bergantino AE112 rig i had yrs back and then having a Markbass 112 rig but the band never came to anything so it never got used other than trying it out at a couple of rehearsals. There was a notable difference when using it. Just having a clear out. Not sure if i'm maybe asking too much for it. ? Dave

Must admit to preferring Claptons playing on this. Its a lot more relaxed and fluent IMHO of course. Just personal opinion. For me this is the style of music where Clapton was in his element. This is how i always think of him. Dave

I don't know who Cantona is. I believe he's a footballer but living in Scotland we have no knowledge or experience of good players .............. IMHO of course Dave

So much knowledge of model railways on this thread i've now started a Model Railways thread in OFF TOPICS. Save us derailing @Baxlin's thread. Dave

Its Basschat. Bass players have a low attention span and usually drift off thread into .......oh the news is on TV........must be breakfast time...........wonder if i can get the bike out today .......

Coupled with the relevant timetable i'm sure we could train ourselves to travel almost anywhere along the line and perhaps station ourselves at the appropriate junction Dave

Are you lot trying to railroad this thread. Sounds like you might be steaming. Dave

I'm at the planning stages too for next year when i move it into a Garden Building. Had house layouts but visitors think its a toy so i dismantled it all. Was going to put one in loft but temperature change winter to summer creates problems plus it can affect your house insurance if loft used for more than storage. Bit of a grey area apparently. Big Garden Shed it is then. Dave

There are others on BC for sure.
